Statement

There's a specific kind of American interior — Mid-Century modern, Hollywood Regency, transitional luxury — that asks for a tall lamp instead of a small one. A 14-inch bedside lamp on a 30-inch dresser looks lost. A 12-inch table lamp on a 32-inch sofa-side console looks like an afterthought. The room wants vertical presence; the lamp should fill the air between the surface and the ceiling rather than huddle on it.

The Maeve was designed in this category. Three heights — 24.8, 26.4, and 29.5 inches — anchored by a polished chrome cylinder base and topped with a hand-finished faux silk shade. The chrome catches reflected light from the room; the faux silk diffuses bulb light into a warm glow that reads candlelit rather than fluorescent. Together, they create one of the warmest tall lamps in the American Mid-Century vocabulary.

Polished chrome cylinder base

A clean chrome cylinder that catches reflected room light without becoming a visual focal point itself. Chrome reads modern in Mid-Century interiors, transitional in classic ones, and luxurious in Hollywood Regency rooms. The cylinder geometry stays out of the way of the room's other furniture.

Faux silk shade — soft Mid-Century glow

A self-skinning polymer with a hand-finished faux silk surface — translucent enough to diffuse the bulb light into a warm even glow, durable enough to last decades without yellowing or warping like real silk shades sometimes do. The light through the shade reads as candlelit Mid-Century rather than fluorescent contemporary.

The Maeve fills a category American interior design has been quietly missing — a tall lamp for surfaces 28-36 inches off the floor. Model B (24.8") for standard sofa-side console tables. Model C (26.4") for dresser tops and entryway consoles. Model A (29.5") for statement placements where the lamp itself should be a focal point.

Most American table lamps are designed for nightstands — 13 to 18 inches tall, sized for surfaces 22-28 inches off the floor. They work for that. But for the surfaces above 28 inches — sofa-side console tables, dresser tops, foyer consoles, double-height entry tables — a standard bedside lamp looks visually undersized.

The Maeve fills this category. The lamp's vertical proportion is calibrated for the higher surface; the chrome base anchors visually without being heavy; the warm-glow shade does the lighting work without making the lamp itself a centerpiece. It belongs on the surface it was built for — the right size, the right material, the right warmth.

Which Model should I choose — A, B, or C? +

Measure the surface where the lamp will sit. American interior surfaces are typically:

28-30" surface (most sofa-side console tables) → Model B (24.8")
32" surface (standard dresser, entryway console) → Model C (26.4")
34-36" surface (tall dresser, double-height foyer) → Model A (29.5")

The general guideline: total lamp height + surface height should be approximately equal to or slightly higher than seated eye level (40-42 inches) for living room applications, or roughly 50-58 inches for entry/standing-eye applications. What is "faux silk polymer"? How does it compare to real silk? +

Faux silk polymer is a hand-finished synthetic shade material that visually mimics silk's soft white glow but performs significantly better than real silk in residential conditions.

Compared to real silk: Real silk lampshades cost 3-5x more, can yellow within 5-10 years from UV exposure, and are vulnerable to moisture and stains. Faux silk polymer maintains its white tone for decades, resists yellowing, doesn't warp from heat, and can be lightly dusted without damage.

Compared to plain polymer: Standard polymer shades read flatter and slightly plastic. Faux silk polymer has a hand-finished textured surface that catches light the way silk does — soft, layered, slightly luminous — without the maintenance burden.

Are bulbs included? Can I dim it? +

Yes — E26 LED warm-white bulbs are included (standard 2700K, non-dimmable). Plug in, switch on.

For dimming, the Maeve uses an inline cord switch + pull-chain rather than a base switch, so dimming requires: (1) replace included bulbs with dimmable E26 LEDs (Home Depot/Lowe's/Amazon), and (2) plug the lamp into either a wall outlet controlled by a dimmer switch, or use a plug-in dimmer cord adapter ($15-25 at hardware stores). The fixture itself supports both setups; dimming comes from the bulb + control combination.

How do I clean the chrome and faux silk shade? +

For the chrome base: Wipe with a soft microfiber cloth and a small amount of glass cleaner or chrome polish for shine. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, which scratch chrome plating. Monthly wipe-down keeps the base reflective and fingerprint-free.

For the faux silk shade: Dust with a soft dry cloth, microfiber duster, or a vacuum on the lowest setting with an upholstery attachment. Faux silk polymer is significantly more forgiving than real silk — you can lightly dampen a microfiber cloth with water (not soap, not chemicals) to spot-clean small marks. Avoid full wet-cleaning, harsh chemicals, or steam.

Should I order one or a pair? +

Pair applications: Sofa-side console tables (one at each sofa end), opposing bedroom dressers, or flanking a mantel or large piece of art. Two Maeves create symmetry that anchors a room's visual balance.

Single applications: Foyer consoles, single-side living room accents, home office, single-dresser bedrooms. A solo Maeve on a console acts as a deliberate accent rather than symmetric framing.
