Silk over iron, light through silk.
The Saya is a sculptural silk pendant — a hand-stretched silk shade over a slim iron frame, shaped after the form of a lotus opening at dusk. Silk has been used as a lampshade material for over a century, but rarely in modern American lighting; most pendant lamps choose glass, metal, or paper because silk is harder to manufacture, harder to ship, and harder to clean. The trade-off is worth it. Silk diffuses light in a way no other material does — warm, even, completely glare-free, with a slight translucency that lets the silhouette of the bulb behind the silk become part of the design.
Five sizes scale from a 15.7-inch single-light fixture for an intimate dining nook, up to a 31.5-inch five-light statement pendant for a grand entryway or open-plan living space. The lotus silhouette is the same across all sizes; the scale and lamp count adjust to the room. White iron frame, ivory silk shade — neutral enough for any palette, distinctive enough to anchor the room.
Hand-stretched silk shade
Real silk fabric — not synthetic silk-look polyester. The shade is hand-stretched over the iron frame to keep the silhouette sharp; the natural translucency of silk means light passes through evenly, with no harsh hot spots.
Lotus silhouette — sculptural, not literal
The form references a lotus flower opening at dusk — soft layered curves, narrow at top, wide at base. It reads sculptural rather than decoratively floral; suits modern, Japandi, Zen, and Wabi-Sabi interiors equally.
Five sizes, scaling lamp count
15.7" (1-light) for nooks · 19.7" (1-light) for dining · 23.6" (2-light) for medium rooms · 26.8" (3-light) for large dining · 31.5" (5-light) for grand-scale spaces. The lotus stays the same; the brightness scales with the room.
Standard E26 base — your bulb, your glow
E26 sockets accept LED, filament, or Edison-style bulbs. Use 2700K warm white for the full silk-amber glow; use clear filament Edison bulbs to make the bulb itself part of the visible design behind the translucent silk.
Why silk, when everyone else uses glass
Most modern pendant lights use glass or paper. Both are easier to source, cheaper to ship, easier to clean. Silk is the harder choice — it requires hand-stretching, it can't be machine-washed, it demands care. The reason we make a silk pendant is what silk does to light. Glass refracts. Paper diffuses through opacity. Silk has a quality the others don't — a faint warmth in the translucency, a slight glow at the edges that makes the lamp itself look like it's softly lit from within rather than a fixture passing through light. It's the closest manufactured material to the way candlelight passes through paper lanterns in old Japanese houses. There's no real substitute. Either it's silk, or the light reads different.
Where the Saya hangs best
Above a dining table — 19.7" or 23.6" — the silk glow turns evening meals into an atmosphere; the lotus silhouette reads as quiet art, not loud decoration.
Living room or family room centerpiece — 23.6" or 26.8" — anchors the room without demanding attention; works equally in modern, transitional, Zen, and Japandi interiors.
Grand entryway or open-plan stairwell — 31.5" — the five-light version is genuinely architectural; it's the fixture you choose when the room can carry a 31-inch sculptural piece.
Bedroom centerpiece — 19.7" — soft silk diffusion is exactly right for bedroom ambient light; turns harsh ceiling lighting into something resembling candlelight.
Zen, meditation, or tea room — 15.7" — the lotus form has spiritual significance in many traditions; the silk glow is what those rooms have always wanted.

Silk care
Dust with a soft dry brush only. Do not steam, iron, or apply direct heat to the silk. Do not wet-clean. Keep the fixture away from kitchen ranges, fireplaces, and other heat sources during installation and use.
For the warmest silk-glow effect, use 2700K LED or filament bulbs. Cool bulbs flatten the silk's natural amber undertone.
Safety tested for indoor use in dry locations. Meets technical requirements for North American residential lighting installations.
