SILK · N°06 · TABLE-HEIGHT

The floor lamp
that sits beside you.

A quiet 34-inch pear-shaped silk lamp on a slender black tripod — designed for the space between a chair and its side table, or beside a bed instead of a nightstand lamp. Silk-wound by hand, warm to the eye, small enough not to dominate a room and considered enough to complete one.

34" · Table height Silk-wound shade 4 plug types

Most floor lamps are built to fill vertical space. The Rina is built to complete a horizontal one.

At 34 inches from floor to shade top, the Rina sits at approximately the same height as a bedside table with a table lamp on it — no taller, no shorter. This is deliberate. The lamp is designed as a floor-standing alternative to a table lamp: same functional height, but without needing the surface underneath. It solves for the moment when a room's layout doesn't have space for a full-size floor lamp (too tall, too vertical, too dominant) but also doesn't have the surface for a proper table lamp (no nightstand, no side table, no console).

Three rooms it belongs in, specifically: beside the bed as a nightstand-lamp alternative. Beside a lounge chair or sofa arm as a reading-corner light. Beside a nursery rocking chair for late-night feedings. The lamp is quiet enough not to interfere with any of them, and warm enough to make each feel considered.

01 — Silhouette

A soft pear, uninterrupted.

The pear silhouette is one of the most quietly resolved shapes in modern lighting — the top narrows towards where the shade meets the tripod, the lower widens into a full curve, the whole form reads as organic rather than geometric. It's the specific silhouette that reads warmly across nearly every interior register: Japandi and wabi-sabi (soft, natural), Scandinavian (uninterrupted, considered), modern minimalist (geometric-adjacent without being pure geometry). We produce the pear because the sphere reads too iconic (recognisable from mid-century bubble lamps), the cylinder too utilitarian, and the pear reads as its own thing.

02 — The silk

Silk-wound, by hand.

The shade is built by winding silk strand around a hidden internal frame — the traditional silk-lamp technique used across Japanese and continental European ateliers for over a century. Each pass of silk overlaps the previous one at a slightly offset angle, so the finished surface reads as uniform white in daylight and as woven-luminous when lit. The technique produces the specific soft glow that fabric-shade lamps have and that other materials don't. Compared to the polymer-silk of our Perla Bubble Series (which uses sprayed polymer over wire), the Rina uses actual silk — softer optical character, more considered handcraft, more suited to intimate room scale.

03 — The base

Matte black tripod.

Three slender legs in matte black — deliberately understated, deliberately architectural. The black is the second design choice we made, after the pear silhouette: white silk on chrome reads mid-century, white silk on brass reads traditional, white silk on matte black reads Japandi and modern-minimalist. The tripod is thin enough to disappear against dark floors and considered enough to anchor the shade against light ones. Low centre of gravity gives stability without visual weight.

04 — The install

Plug in. Turn on.

No electrician, no wall-switch wiring. The lamp ships with a 59-inch cord and an inline push-button switch on the cord itself, so you turn it on and off from where you sit rather than from where the wall is. Select your regional plug type at checkout — US, UK, AU, or EU — and the lamp arrives ready to plug into any standard wall outlet in that region.

Scale

One size.
Chosen deliberately.

Dia 15.7" × H 34". The proportions are the product.

Most floor lamps in the market run 55-65 inches — designed for standalone corner installation, meant to hold vertical space in a room. The Rina intentionally isn't that lamp. At 34 inches total height and 15.7 inches shade diameter, its footprint matches the average table lamp on a nightstand: same eye-level when seated, same illumination footprint on the room, same functional role — but freestanding on the floor rather than requiring a surface.

This means the Rina is small enough not to compete with the room's other furniture, but not so small that it reads as a task lamp or side-table piece. It sits comfortably beside a bed frame, beside a lounge chair, beside a nursery rocker, at exactly the height at which a reading light should sit. Nothing smaller would work as ambient lighting; nothing larger would fit next to seating without becoming the room's dominant fixture.

Rooms

Three rooms it belongs in.

Bedroom

Beside the bed — instead of a nightstand lamp.

This is the Rina's first-choice deployment. Place it beside the bed on the floor; skip the nightstand table lamp entirely. The 34-inch height puts the shade at seated-in-bed eye-level; the warm silk glow reads perfectly for evening reading. The nightstand surface is freed for books, glasses, water — the things that should be on a nightstand — rather than being occupied by a lamp. In a pair on either side of a bed, the Rina reads considered rather than repetitive; two lamps at floor level frame the bed the way pendants would above it, without ceiling installation.

Living room

Beside a chair, on the side of a sofa.

Positioned next to a reading chair, wingback, or the arm of a sofa, the Rina serves the specific role that most side-table lamps do — ambient light for reading, evening conversation, background warmth — but without requiring the side table itself. This solves for open-plan living rooms where surface space is scarce, and for minimalist interiors where a table-plus-lamp combination reads as too much furniture. Below sofa-back height means the lamp doesn't interfere with the room's sight lines; above sofa-arm height means the shade sits usefully close to the reader.

Nursery / meditation corner

Beside a rocking chair, or a meditation cushion.

The nursery deployment is one of the Rina's less-obvious strengths. Beside a rocking or nursing chair, the warm silk-diffused glow is exactly the right register for 2 a.m. feedings — bright enough to see, warm enough not to wake either parent or child, quiet enough to belong in the corner during naptime as well. In a meditation corner, the same principles apply: silk light against a dim room, low enough not to draw attention to the fixture, warm enough to signal that the corner is meant for stillness rather than task.

Questions

Is 34 inches tall enough for a floor lamp?

For the Rina's intended role, yes — deliberately so. Standard floor lamps run 55-65 inches tall because they're designed for standalone corner installation, meant to light rooms from above eye-level. The Rina is designed for the opposite deployment: beside seating, at seated eye-level, functioning as an alternative to a nightstand or side-table lamp. If you're looking for a tall corner floor lamp, our Perla Bubble Floor Lamp (52.5-61.5") is the correct fixture. If you want a floor lamp that behaves like a table lamp without needing the table, the Rina is exactly that.

Which plug type should I select?

Select the plug type matching your country's wall outlets: US Plug (two flat parallel blades) for United States, Canada, Mexico, Japan, and most of Latin America. UK Plug (three square pins) for United Kingdom, Ireland, Hong Kong, Singapore. AU Plug (two angled flat pins) for Australia, New Zealand. EU Plug (two round pins) for continental Europe. The internal electronics accept AC 110-240V globally, so travelling only requires a plug adapter, not a voltage converter.

Can I use it as a reading lamp?

Yes, with a small qualifier. The silk-wound shade produces warm-white ambient light, ideal for the moody atmospheric register that most reading benefits from. For extended reading of small text (mass-market paperbacks, small-font hardcovers), the 40W warm-white output is adequate but not brilliant; some readers prefer to pair the Rina's ambient warmth with a small dedicated task light for the page itself. For magazine reading, tablet reading, and typical evening novel reading, the Rina alone is sufficient.

Rina or Perla Bubble Floor Lamp — which?

Both are silk floor lamps; the deployments are entirely different. Perla Bubble Floor Lamp (52.5-61.5") is a tall corner floor lamp on a chrome tripod — mid-century modern in register, designed for standalone corner installation, holds vertical space in a room. Choose Perla for living-room corners, mid-century interiors, statement lighting. Rina (34") is a table-height floor lamp on a matte black tripod — Japandi/minimalist in register, designed for beside-seating deployment, does not hold vertical space. Choose Rina for bedside deployment, sofa-side corners, nursery use, and interiors where a tall corner lamp would feel over-scaled.

Can I dim it?

Yes — recommended for bedside and evening use. The included E26 LED bulb is non-dimmable warm-white. To enable dimming: replace with a dimmable E26 LED bulb (widely available, $8-15) and plug the lamp into an in-line plug-in dimmer, or into a dimmer-capable wall socket. At 30-50% brightness, the silk shade produces its most atmospheric register — the warm ambient glow deepens, the lamp reads as intentional evening lighting rather than daytime task lighting. For nursery and bedside deployments in particular, dimming is what unlocks the lamp's full character.

Assembly?

Approximately 15-20 minutes. The lamp arrives in a compact box; the three tripod legs attach to the central column with hand-tightened screws (no tools required, though a small wrench is included if you prefer). The silk shade slides onto the top and locks with a single fastener. Install the included bulb, plug the lamp in, use the inline switch — done. Instructions are illustrated for step-by-step reference.

Care and cleaning?

Silk shades require gentle care. Dust with a soft dry brush (a clean makeup brush works well) or low-power vacuum-brush attachment held at 6-inch distance, every 2-3 months. Never use water, damp cloths, or cleaning sprays on silk — moisture damages the material and the wound-silk structure. The matte black tripod cleans with a dry microfibre cloth. Keep the lamp away from direct sunlight over years (which can yellow silk) and out of heavy-humidity or cooking-vapour environments.

"The Rina is our answer to a specific problem — the moment when you want a floor-scale silk lamp beside seating or a bed, but a full-height corner lamp would be over-scaled and a table lamp would need a table you don't have. Pear shade, matte black tripod, 34 inches. Nothing more than the room needs."
