There's a specific kind of design instinct that the Scandinavians spent the entire 20th century perfecting: the idea that a fixture should do its job with as few parts as possible, in materials so honest that the engineering becomes the decoration. The Astrid is built in that tradition.

Three metal legs meet at a hub. A fabric-stretched silk shade sits on top. That's the entire fixture. No ornament, no extra hardware, no decorative flourishes — just three structural members holding a soft white shade at the right height for a bedside table, a desk corner, or a sofa-side console. The geometry does all the work that ornament usually does in lesser fixtures.

Bulbs included. Built to UL safety standards. Available in four sizes — Model B for low bedside surfaces, Models A/C/D for taller installations. Choose your plug type at checkout (US, EU, UK, or AU) for international installations.

Metal tripod base — architectural geometry

Three slim metal legs angled to a calibrated meeting point. The geometry is structural rather than decorative — the legs hold the shade at the right height with the minimum material required, and the angles read as engineering rather than ornament. Painted black for graphic interiors, brushed for warmer rooms.

Hand-stretched silk shade — warm diffusion

Real silk fabric hand-stretched over a slim drum frame. Silk diffuses light into a warm even glow that softens the room rather than illuminating it; closer to candlelight than electric light. Quieter than glass, warmer than paper, more refined than plastic — the natural choice for bedrooms and reading corners.

Four sizes — a Model for every surface

The Astrid comes in four sizes, each matched to typical American interior surface heights. Model B (13.8") for low nightstands. Model D (15") for standard nightstands and desks. Model C (15.7") for taller side tables. Model A (18.9") for tall console tables and statement applications.

Choose US, EU, UK, or AU plug at checkout for international installations. Ships with E26 warm-white LED bulbs already installed; inline cord switch for direct control. 59-inch cord with optional extension on request.

Japandi interiors — the fusion of Japanese Wabi-Sabi and Scandinavian functionalism — have become one of the dominant aesthetic movements in American homes over the past five years. The Astrid was designed inside this tradition. The tripod geometry is structural Scandinavian engineering; the silk shade is Japanese material restraint. Neither tradition would add anything else to this fixture, and we didn't either.

In rooms furnished in the Japandi instinct — natural wood, neutral palettes, deliberate negative space — the Astrid disappears into the room's logic. It looks like it belongs.

For low bedside tables, kids' nightstands, lower console surfaces. Compact enough that two Model B's fit on opposing nightstands without dominating a primary bedroom.

D

For standard nightstands, desks, and dresser tops. The most flexible Model — works on most American interior surfaces without feeling either too small or too imposing.

For larger side tables, taller console tables, and applications where the shade should diffuse more light across a wider area. Reading-corner ideal.

For tall console tables, entry tables, statement-piece bedside applications. The vertical proportion reads more architectural than the lower Models — works as a single accent rather than a paired set.

Two Astrids on opposing nightstands — Model B for low surfaces, Model D for standard heights. The silk shade reads bedroom-soft; the tripod geometry adds architectural presence without weight.

Reading corner or sofa-side · Model C

Beside a reading chair or end of a sofa, Model C's wider 13.8" shade diffuses enough light for casual reading without the harsh point-source of a floor lamp directly overhead.

Home office desk · Model D

15" height clears typical monitor stands while delivering soft fill light that reduces screen contrast and eye strain. Pairs particularly well with wood or stone desks.

Entryway console · Model A

Model A's taller 18.9" proportion reads architectural on entry consoles and tall console tables. Single placement rather than paired — let the geometry do the work.

Japandi tea room or meditation space · Model B

In Wabi-Sabi-leaning interiors, Model B's compact silk-on-tripod geometry reads as a Japanese tea-ceremony object — soft, intentional, architecturally restrained.

Which Model should I order — A, B, C, or D? +

Measure the surface where the lamp will sit, then check the surface-to-eye height when seated/standing nearby.

Model B (13.8" total) — for low nightstands (under 22" tall) and kids' rooms.
Model D (15" total) — for standard nightstands (22-28" tall) and desks. Most American interiors.
Model C (15.7" total) — for larger side tables and console tables (28-32" tall); wider shade casts broader light.
Model A (18.9" total) — for tall console tables (32-36" tall) and statement placements where the vertical proportion matters more than light spread.

Are bulbs included? Can I dim it? +

Yes — E26 LED warm-white bulbs are included (standard 2700K, non-dimmable). Plug in, switch on. No bulb shopping required.

The Astrid uses an inline cord switch rather than a base switch, so dimming requires either: (1) a dimmable E26 LED bulb paired with a plug-in dimmer cord (available at Home Depot for $15-25), or (2) plugging the Astrid into a wall outlet controlled by a dimmer switch. Both work; the plug-in dimmer cord is the simplest retrofit.

How do I clean the silk shade? +

Dust the silk shade with a soft dry brush or microfiber cloth — a vacuum on the lowest setting with an upholstery attachment works too. Do not wet-clean, steam, iron, or use any liquid cleaners — these can stain or warp the silk fibers. Avoid placing the Astrid near heat sources (radiators, fireplaces) or in humid spaces (bathrooms, kitchens directly above stovetops). With monthly dusting, silk shades maintain their appearance for years.

Is this for sale outside the US? Does the plug option ship internationally? +

Yes — the Astrid is designed for international use with four plug options at checkout: US (Type A/B), UK (Type G), EU (Type C/F), and AU (Type I). The fixture works on 110-240V universal voltage, so it functions on any standard household electrical system. Shipping costs and delivery times vary by destination; standard shipping to the US is 4-6 weeks, expedited 2-4 weeks. For shipping to other countries, email service@stuberlighting.com for an estimate.
