Wood and silk. Long arm. Quiet glow.
The Cygnus is a long-arm floor lamp built from natural materials — a slim solid-wood post and reach arm, with a hand-stretched silk shade at the arm's tip. The arm extends outward at a calibrated angle, reaching over a chair, sofa, or reading corner without the floor footprint a standard floor lamp requires. Where most Mid-Century floor lamps lean modernist-industrial (metal, matte black, graphic geometry), the Cygnus leans Japandi — wood warmth, silk softness, the natural-material vocabulary of Scandinavian and Japanese design traditions.
Available in natural wood or walnut finish — both shades work across modern, transitional, and Japandi interiors. 78-inch power cord with inline switch; plug-in installation in your choice of US, UK, EU, or AU plug type. The silk shade diffuses bulb light into a warm, even glow — closer to candlelight than electric light.
Solid-wood frame — natural material
Slim solid-wood post and reach arm, sanded to a soft natural touch. Wood frames are rare in modern floor lamps; most use steel or aluminum. The Cygnus brings the warmth and grain visibility of wood into a category dominated by metal.
Hand-stretched silk shade
Real silk fabric, hand-stretched over a slim frame at the arm tip. Silk diffuses light into a warm, even glow — closer to candlelight than electric light. Quieter than glass; warmer than paper; the natural counterpoint to the wood frame.
Long reach arm — over chair, sofa, corner
The arm extends outward at a calibrated angle, reaching over a reading chair, behind a sofa, or across a corner without crowding the floor space directly below the lamp. Less floor footprint, more lighting coverage.
Two wood finishes
Natural Wood for lighter Scandinavian and Japandi interiors. Walnut for richer, traditional, and warm transitional rooms. Both finishes pair with the ivory silk shade for a quiet, warm material palette.
The case for natural-material floor lighting
Modern floor lamp design has overwhelmingly settled into metal — matte black steel, brushed brass, chromed aluminum. The reasons are practical: metal is cheaper to manufacture, easier to ship, stronger per pound. But metal is also cold, monochromatic, and signals "fixture" more than "furniture." Natural-material floor lamps — wood frames, silk shades — read entirely differently in a room. They behave like furniture, not like accessories. They add warmth to spaces dominated by neutral palettes. They suit the increasingly popular Japandi and Scandinavian interior movements in ways metal lamps cannot. The Cygnus is built for these rooms.
Cygnus and Vega — which Stellar floor lamp for which room
We make two Stellar Collection floor lamps, in deliberately different material vocabularies:
Choose the Vega for modernist, industrial, Mid-Century, and graphic-black interiors. Tripod base, matte black metal, aluminum reflector — graphic and architectural.
Choose the Cygnus (this fixture) for Japandi, Scandinavian, transitional, and natural-material interiors. Solid-wood frame, silk shade — warm and quiet rather than graphic.
Part of the Stellar Collection
The Cygnus expands our Stellar Collection — bringing the natural-material option to our growing family of architectural lighting:
Vega — Mid-Century tripod floor lamp.
Lyra — articulated table lamp.
Atria — Long-arm wall sconce, plug-in.
Pavo — Mid-Century wall sconce, full configuration set.
Cassio — multi-arm Mid-Century chandelier.
Cygnus (this fixture) — wood and silk floor lamp, the natural-material counterpart to Vega.
Where the Cygnus stands best
Reading corner with armchair — long arm reaches over the chair seat for shoulder-height ambient light; the silk shade keeps the light glare-free.
Behind a sofa — arm extends over the sofa back to light the seating area; replaces a floor lamp without crowding the seating zone.
Japandi or Scandinavian living room — wood and silk are the signature materials of these styles; the Cygnus integrates rather than contrasts.
Master bedroom corner — soft silk glow handles evening ambient light without demanding the reading-task brightness a desk lamp would.
Home office or studio in a natural-materials palette — wood frame matches solid-wood desks and shelves; silk shade keeps the workspace warm rather than clinical.

Frequently Asked Questions
Natural Wood or Walnut — which one? +
Choose Natural Wood for lighter rooms — white walls, blonde-wood floors, Scandinavian and modern Japandi interiors. The light tone reads casual and bright. Choose Walnut for warmer, richer interiors — darker floors, transitional design, mid-century modern with traditional accents, rooms with darker furniture. The walnut darkens slightly with age and develops character. Both pair beautifully with the ivory silk shade; the difference is the room's overall warmth palette.
How do I clean the silk shade? +
Dust the silk shade gently with a soft dry brush or microfiber cloth. Do not wet-clean, steam, iron, or use any liquid cleaners — these can stain or warp the silk. Avoid placing the lamp near heat sources (radiators, fireplaces, stovetops) which can dry out the silk over time. With basic dusting once a month, the silk shade maintains its appearance for years. If the silk becomes damaged, replacement silk shades can be ordered from our customer service.
Is the wood real solid wood or veneer? +
Solid wood throughout — the post and arm are crafted from solid hardwood, not veneer over particleboard. You can see and feel the wood grain, and the lamp has the weight and stability of solid construction. The Natural Wood and Walnut finishes are real wood stains applied to the same solid hardwood; the underlying material is identical. Solid wood develops character over years; small variations in grain pattern between individual lamps are part of the natural material.
For the warmest silk-glow effect, use 2700K LED or filament bulbs. Cooler bulbs flatten the silk's natural amber undertone.
Place on a stable, level surface; the wood base is weighted for the arm extension but works best on hardwood floors, low-pile carpet, or stable surfaces.
Safety tested for indoor use in dry locations. Meets technical requirements for North American residential lighting installations.
