The Akari UF4-33N is our largest floor lamp — a 72.8-inch sculptural column of hand-stretched Washi paper supported by a geometric iron frame. Standing taller than most adults, it doesn't occupy a corner of a room so much as anchor one. The premium Mulberry paper is meticulously stretched and pasted onto the iron skeleton by artisans over a 5-to-10-day production process; the result is a fixture with the structural presence of a small piece of furniture and the soft warm glow of a candle-lit lantern.
This is not the floor lamp for a small living room or a bedside corner. The UF4-33N is sized for spaces that can carry it — open-plan living rooms with 10ft+ ceilings, double-height lofts, vaulted modernist interiors, gallery-scale entryways, hospitality lobbies. Is 72.8 inches too tall for an 8-foot ceiling room? +
It can work, but we generally recommend 9-foot ceilings or higher for the UF4-33N. In a standard 8-foot ceiling room (96 inches), a 72.8-inch lamp leaves only 23 inches of clearance above — visually this can feel crowded, like the lamp is reaching for the ceiling. The fixture is designed to read as architectural sculpture; in 8-foot rooms, that effect is diminished. Why does this take 5-10 days to ship? +
The UF4-33N is genuinely made to order — not stocked in a warehouse. Each fixture goes through frame welding, paper preparation, hand-stretching, paper-pasting, frame finishing, and quality inspection as individual handcraft steps. The paper drying alone takes 24-48 hours between layers. This 5-10 day preparation window is the production time at the factory, before international shipping begins. Total delivery time to US/Canada is typically 4-6 weeks from order to delivery (preparation + standard shipping); expedited shipping is available at checkout for 2-4 week delivery. We do not rush production — rushed handmade work compromises the final fixture quality.
How do I care for the Washi paper on such a tall lamp? +
Dust gently with a long-handled feather duster or microfiber wand — at 72.8 inches, you'll appreciate the extended reach tool. Do not wet-clean, steam, spray with cleaners, or use damp cloths; water permanently stains and warps Washi paper. Place the lamp away from humid environments and away from direct heat sources. The premium thickened Mulberry paper used in the UF4-33N resists yellowing better than tissue-grade alternatives — with basic monthly dusting, the paper maintains its appearance for many years. The iron frame only needs occasional wiping with a dry cloth.
For the warmest paper-glow effect, use 2700K-3000K LED or filament bulbs with high color rendering (CRI/Ra > 90). Cooler bulbs flatten the paper's natural amber undertone.
Each piece is handmade by artisans — slight variations between individual lamps in paper texture, frame geometry, and exact dimensions are part of the authentic hand-craft character.
Place on a stable, level floor surface. Due to the tall scale, install away from high-traffic pathways and out of reach of small children and pets.
