The Akari 1N is a tall slim table lamp built around a vertical egg-shape Washi paper shade supported by a slender three-leg black metal tripod. At 19.3" tall — taller than most table lamps on the market and our tallest Akari table lamp — the 1N reads as a piece of vertical sculpture rather than a low utility accessory. The narrow profile (10.2" diameter) and elongated proportions give the fixture a quietly architectural presence; the soft warm glow when illuminated transforms the lamp from architectural object into atmospheric anchor.

The 1N is for nightstands, side tables, console tables, and quiet study corners where you want vertical presence at table-top scale. Taller and slimmer than our Akari 1A, the 1N is the choice when you want a more dramatic, elongated silhouette in a still-compact footprint.

At 19.3" tall with only 10.2" diameter, the 1N has the most elongated proportions of any Akari table lamp in our family. The vertical profile reads as architectural sculpture rather than table accessory — the fixture earns its space on a nightstand or side table in a way that shorter lamps cannot.

Carefully selected impurity-free off-white Washi paper — the dense uniform paper diffuses light evenly across the entire shade, avoiding the patchy yellow glare common in cheaper alternatives. Hand-stretched onto the frame by skilled artisans.

Sturdy black metal tripod base

Three slender black metal legs hold the paper shade with intentional graphic contrast — the warmth of paper against the precision of dark metal. The tripod provides stable footing on any flat surface even with the taller silhouette; the dark base anchors the slim vertical shade visually.

At 19.3" tall, the lamp claims vertical space on a nightstand or side table in a way most table lamps cannot, reading as architectural sculpture rather than functional accessory. Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 1N compare to the Akari 1A and 5X? +

Three different table lamp silhouettes from the same Akari family. The 1A is a compact egg-shape on a tripod, 10.2" × 16.9" tall — the most balanced everyday proportions. The 5X is a wide pyramid sitting low, 12.2" × 14.9" — grounded geometric sculpture rather than vertical lantern. The 1N (this fixture) is the tallest and slimmest, 10.2" × 19.3" — same diameter as 1A but 2.4 inches taller, designed for tableaus that want vertical presence. Choose 1A as a default; choose 5X for grounded geometric architecture; choose 1N when you want the most vertical statement in a still-compact footprint.

What kind of bulb works best? +

Use the included 3000K warm-white bulb, or upgrade to a 2700K-3000K LED bulb with high color rendering (CRI/Ra > 90). High-CRI bulbs bring out the natural amber tones of the Washi paper and produce noticeably more atmospheric light than standard bulbs. Avoid cooler bulbs (4000K+) — they flatten the paper's natural amber undertone and shift the glow toward gray, defeating the whole point of the lamp. The button switch is non-dimmable on its own; for full dimming, pair with a dimmable bulb plus an in-line cord dimmer between lamp and outlet, or use a smart bulb with phone control.

How do I care for the Washi paper shade? +

Dust gently with a soft feather duster or microfiber cloth — that's it. Do not wet-clean, steam, spray with cleaners, or use damp cloths; water permanently stains and warps Washi paper. Place the lamp away from humid environments (avoid bathroom counters, kitchen surfaces near stovetops) and away from direct heat sources (radiators, fireplaces). With basic monthly dusting, the paper maintains its appearance for many years; slight ambering over time is natural and part of the material's character. The metal tripod base only needs occasional wiping with a dry cloth.


Each piece is handmade by artisans — slight variations between individual lamps in paper texture, frame geometry, and exact dimensions are part of the authentic hand-craft character.

Place on a stable, level surface. Due to the taller silhouette, place away from edges and avoid surfaces likely to be bumped by children or pets.
