A floating Washi paper sphere. Architectural silence, in pendant form.

The Washi Paper D Sphere Pendant is a sculptural ceiling fixture built around hand-stretched mulberry Washi paper, supported by natural bamboo ribbing inside. The soft round silhouette filters harsh bulb light into a warm uniform glow — closer to candlelight than electric light, with the diffuse softness that only authentic paper can deliver. When lit, the whole sphere becomes a floating lantern; when unlit, it reads as a sculptural object that happens to also be a fixture.

Ten sizes from 11.8" diameter for bedside, hallway niches, and small-room clustering, up to a statement-scale 47.2" for grand foyers, double-height living rooms, and oversized hospitality spaces. The D Series silhouette is a slightly flattened sphere — diameter exceeds height — producing a pendant that reads more grounded and architectural than a perfectly round sphere would. Same authentic hand-craft, same paper-and-bamboo materials, same warm glow at every size.

01

Authentic hand-stretched mulberry Washi paper

Real mulberry-fiber Washi paper, hand-stretched by artisans over each frame — not printed, not pressed, not vinyl-laminated. The paper has irregular fibers, subtle thickness variations, and natural warmth that machine-made alternatives cannot replicate. Slight variations between individual pieces are part of the authentic hand-craft character.

02

Flattened-sphere D silhouette

The D Series silhouette is intentionally a flattened sphere — diameter exceeds height by roughly 10-15%. This produces a pendant that reads more grounded and architectural than a perfectly round sphere; the proportion feels intentional rather than incidental, and the flatter profile suits low-ceiling rooms that would crowd under a perfect-sphere fixture.

03

Ten sizes — every room scale covered

From 11.8" mini for bedside, hallway niches, and cluster groupings, through 24" and 31.5" for standard dining and living spaces, up to 47.2" oversized statement for grand foyers and double-height ceilings.

The pursuit of architectural silence

Most lighting on the market is designed to perform — bright, sharp, technical, optimized for visible output. A small number of fixtures are designed for the opposite: to slow the room down, to soften the eye, to produce light that you barely notice consciously but that changes how a space feels. The Washi Paper D Series belongs to this second category. The combination of hand-textured paper, the warm uniform glow, the flattened-sphere proportions, and the considered scale options means the pendant doesn't dominate the room — it joins it. This is the lighting for Japandi, Wabi-Sabi, Scandinavian, and modern Zen interiors that have come to define considered American design over the last decade.

Where the Washi Paper D hangs best

Dining room above a round or rectangular table (50D-60D · 19.6"-24") — soft amber glow turns dinners into atmospheric occasions; the flattened-sphere form anchors any table shape gracefully.

Living room as central pendant (60D-80D · 24"-31.5") — paper sphere as the room's warm anchor; complements modern furniture and traditional interiors equally well.

Kitchen island as cluster (30D-45D · clusters of 3-5) — multiple smaller spheres spaced along the island length; the modern designer alternative to a single chandelier.

Bedside or small bedroom (30D-40D · 11.8"-16.5") — replaces standard ceiling fixtures with sculptural pendant presence; soft warm glow ideal for evening reading.

Grand foyer or double-height entryway (100D-120D · 39.3"-47.2") — oversized statement that reads as art rather than utility; warm paper presence welcomes guests in a way metal chandeliers cannot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which size fits my room and ceiling height? +

General room-sizing formula: add your room's length and width in feet, then convert the total to inches — that's the recommended sphere diameter. For example, a 12ft × 14ft room (= 26 inches total) pairs well with the 60D (24") or 75D (29.5"). For dining tables, the sphere should be roughly half to two-thirds of the table's longest dimension. For ceiling height: 8-foot ceilings work best with 11.8"-19.6" sizes (30D-50D); 10-12 foot ceilings can accommodate 20.8"-31.5" sizes (55D-80D); vaulted or double-height spaces (12ft+) suit the 39.3"-47.2" statement sizes (100D-120D). When in doubt between sizes, choose the larger — undersized fixtures consistently feel underwhelming, oversized fixtures consistently feel intentional.

How do I care for and clean Washi paper? +

Dust gently with a soft feather duster or microfiber cloth — that's it. Do not wet-clean, steam, spray with cleaners, or use damp cloths; water permanently stains and warps Washi paper. Avoid hanging in humid environments (bathrooms, kitchen areas with stovetop steam) and away from direct heat sources (radiators, fireplaces). With basic monthly dusting, the paper maintains its appearance for many years; slight ambering over time is natural and considered part of the material's character. If the paper becomes damaged, replacement paper shades can be ordered from our customer service.

Can I install this on a vaulted or sloped ceiling? Can it be plug-in? +

Yes to both. The standard 59-inch (150cm) adjustable rope handles standard, vaulted, and sloped ceilings out of the box; for ceiling heights above 14 feet, contact us before ordering and we can extend the rope during manufacturing. For plug-in installation (renter-friendly, no electrician needed) — let us know in your order notes or contact customer service before checkout and we will convert the wiring to a plug-in cord with inline switch at no additional cost. Plug-in installation works best for the smaller sizes (30D through 60D); larger sizes have more weight and benefit from hardwired ceiling installation with secure junction box mounting.

For the warmest paper-glow effect, use 2700K-3000K LED or filament bulbs with high color rendering (CRI/Ra > 90). Cooler bulbs flatten the paper's natural amber undertone.

Each piece is handmade by artisans — slight variations between individual spheres in paper texture, frame geometry, and exact dimensions are part of the authentic hand-craft character.

Safety tested for indoor use in dry locations. Meets technical requirements for North American residential lighting installations.

The Art of Light and Paper

More than a source of illumination, each piece is a sculptural presence within the room.

Our Sculptural Paper Lantern Collection brings together softly curved silhouettes, delicate paper textures and warm diffused light. Inspired by the simplicity of Japanese design and the expressive character of handcrafted objects, every lamp is created to feel calm, natural and timeless.

When illuminated, the layered paper gently softens the light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. When switched off, its organic silhouette remains a quiet piece of art.

Made by Hand, Shaped with Patience

Every lamp is individually handcrafted by skilled artisans.
Small variations in texture, tone and surface detail are natural results of the handmade process. They are not imperfections, but part of what makes every lamp one of a kind.

Natural Texture, Gentle Illumination

The finely textured paper allows light to pass through softly rather than shine directly into the room. Its layered surface creates subtle variations in brightness, giving the lamp a warm, atmospheric glow.
