Hand-textured mulberry paper on a tripod base. Wabi-Sabi quiet, in lamp form.

The  Washi Paper 1A is a sculptural table lamp built around hand-textured Washi paper — authentic mulberry paper stretched over bamboo ribbing, supported by a slim three-leg base in matte black. The egg-shaped silhouette filters harsh bulb light into a soft amber glow — the gentle warmth of sunlight through a paper screen, the kind of light that turns a room from functional into atmospheric. It is the lamp version of a Zen meditation: present, quiet, slowing the room down.

At 10.2" diameter and 16.9" tall, the  Washi Paper 1A sits comfortably on bedside nightstands, side tables, console tables, and reading-corner accent tables. Compact enough to read as considered rather than dominant; large enough to anchor a table arrangement on its own. Ships with a 3000K warm-white bulb included.

01

Hand-textured authentic mulberry Washi paper

Real mulberry-fiber Washi paper, hand-textured by artisans — not printed, not pressed, not vinyl-laminated. The paper has the irregular fibers, subtle thickness variations, and natural warmth that machine-made alternatives cannot replicate. Slight variations between individual pieces are part of the authentic hand-craft character.

02

Bamboo ribbing — natural internal structure

The internal frame uses natural bamboo ribbing that gives the lamp its precise egg-shape geometry while keeping the entire fixture remarkably lightweight. Bamboo ages naturally with the paper, producing the integrated material aging that synthetic alternatives never develop.

03

Matte black tripod base

Three slender matte black legs hold the paper shade with intentional graphic contrast — the warmth of paper against the precision of dark metal. The tripod base provides stable footing on any flat surface and adds the visual structure that pure paper lamps sometimes lack.

04

Bulb included · dimmable with compatible bulb

Ships with a 3000K warm-white bulb included. Compatible with any dimmable E26 LED or filament bulb if you want full brightness control. For best results, use a high-CRI (Ra > 90) warm white bulb to bring out the natural amber tones of the paper.

Architectural silence, in lamp form

Most table lamps are functional accessories — they light a surface, they hold a position, they exist. A small number of table lamps are something else: they slow the room down. They produce the kind of light that makes you sit slightly longer, look slightly more carefully, breathe slightly more deeply. The Washi Paper 1A is firmly in that second category. The combination of hand-textured paper, the slow amber glow, the precise egg-shape silhouette, and the quiet tripod base produces a piece that reads less like a lamp and more like a piece of considered architecture sitting on your table. It belongs to the Japandi, Wabi-Sabi, and modern Zen interior traditions — and to anyone whose home wants to feel like a sanctuary rather than just a residence.

Where the Washi Paper 1A sits best

Bedside nightstand — soft warm paper glow replaces standard table lamps with sculptural presence; calibrated for evening reading without screen-bright harshness.

Living room side table next to a sofa or armchair — atmospheric accent light source that softens TV-watching, reading, and conversation alike.

Quiet study corner or reading nook — the lamp version of architectural silence; light that doesn't demand attention but rewards it.

Console table in an entryway — first-impression lighting for the front of the house; warm welcome rather than utility downlight.

Japandi, Wabi-Sabi, Scandinavian, or modern Zen interiors — Washi paper is the signature material of these design traditions; the Washi Paper 1A integrates rather than contrasts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I care for and clean the Washi paper shade? +

Dust gently with a soft feather duster or microfiber cloth — that's it. Do not wet-clean, steam, spray with cleaners, or use damp cloths; water permanently stains and warps Washi paper. Place the lamp away from humid environments (avoid bathroom counters, kitchen surfaces near stovetops) and away from direct heat sources (radiators, fireplaces). With basic monthly dusting, the paper maintains its appearance for many years; slight ambering over time is natural and considered part of the material's character.

What kind of bulb works best? +

For the warmest paper-glow effect, use the included 3000K warm-white bulb, or upgrade to a 2700K-3000K LED filament bulb with high color rendering (CRI/Ra > 90). High-CRI bulbs bring out the natural amber tones of the Washi paper and produce noticeably more atmospheric light than standard bulbs. Avoid cooler bulbs (4000K+) — they flatten the paper's natural amber undertone and shift the glow toward gray, defeating the whole point of the lamp. If you want dimming control, pair the lamp with a compatible dimmable bulb and use an in-line cord dimmer or smart bulb.

Is the paper fragile? Will it last? +

Washi paper is surprisingly durable when handled normally — significantly stronger than standard printer paper because of the long mulberry fibers used in its making. With normal placement on a stable surface and routine dusting, the shade lasts for many years. The shade is not designed to handle frequent handling, bumping, or pressure from children or pets, so it's worth placing the lamp on stable surfaces away from high-traffic zones. If the paper does become damaged over time, replacement shades can be ordered from our customer service — the bamboo frame and base are reusable.

Each piece is handmade by artisans — slight variations between individual lamps in paper texture, frame geometry, and exact dimensions are part of the authentic hand-craft character.

Safety tested for indoor use in dry locations. Meets technical requirements for North American residential lighting installations.

The Art of Light and Paper

More than a source of illumination, each piece is a sculptural presence within the room.

Our Sculptural Paper Lantern Collection brings together softly curved silhouettes, delicate paper textures and warm diffused light. Inspired by the simplicity of Japanese design and the expressive character of handcrafted objects, every lamp is created to feel calm, natural and timeless.

When illuminated, the layered paper gently softens the light, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. When switched off, its organic silhouette remains a quiet piece of art.

Natural Texture, Gentle Illumination

The finely textured paper allows light to pass through softly rather than shine directly into the room. Its layered surface creates subtle variations in brightness, giving the lamp a warm, atmospheric glow.
