Solid Wood Craft · Floor Lamp No. 12

Tronco.

A solid wood trunk. A white fabric drum. Sixty-three inches of quiet Scandinavian floor-lamp presence.

The Tronco Floor Lamp takes the traditional Nordic-Scandinavian floor lamp typology and simplifies it to its essential parts — a single continuous solid wood body turned to a subtle "barbell" silhouette (rounded top, tapered columnar shaft, rounded base), a plain white fabric drum shade catching downward E26/E27 warm-white bulb light in soft even ambient character. Available in Walnut wood for warmer richer interior schemes, or Natural Ash wood for lighter Japandi and coastal interiors.

63" tall. Reads as considered corner statement in living rooms, reading nooks, bedrooms, and foyers. Because each Tronco is turned from solid wood, individual units will show subtle handmade variation in grain pattern and colour intensity — this is inherent to the material.

The Tronco silhouette

On the barbell, and why one continuous piece

One tree. One turn.
One quiet floor lamp.

Traditional floor-lamp construction assembles a wooden body from three or four separate turned segments joined at the middle — a base disc, a shaft, a decorative middle detail, a shade support. Each joint is a place where the material behaves differently, where handling stresses can loosen the fit, and where the visual line breaks. The Tronco is deliberately built the opposite way: a single continuous piece of solid wood turned on the lathe from one blank, so the base foot, the tapered central shaft, the rounded top knob, and the small rounded knobs at the barbell join points are all cut from one material with grain running continuously through the fixture.

The "barbell" name comes from the deliberate profile — the two subtle rounded knobs (one at the top just below the shade, one at the base just above the round foot) that echo the shape of a weightlifting barbell in silhouette. It's a small detail, but reads as intentional craft when you see the lamp in person. The rounded knobs also serve a structural purpose — they add mechanical stability where cross-grain forces could otherwise cause the shaft to develop hairline cracks over decades of handling.

The white fabric drum shade is a simple linen-look fabric wrapped over a metal frame, mounted on a harp assembly that screws onto the top of the wood body. Together — solid wood body + clean fabric drum — the Tronco produces the effect of "considered warmth without visual noise" that has anchored Scandinavian and Japandi living-room interiors for the last seventy years.

Choose your wood

Walnut or Nature.

Finish 01

Walnut wood.

Rich warm dark-brown walnut with visible flame-grain patterns and subtle mineral streaks. The graphic dramatic choice — reads as considered contemporary against pale walls and light-toned furnishings, anchors an interior scheme with strong wood-warmth accent. Correct for Japandi, Mid-Century Modern, farmhouse-transitional, and traditional interiors where the fixture should read as bold sculptural wood presence from every viewing angle.

Finish 02

Nature Ash.

Light warm honey-blonde ash with straight tight grain and subtle golden undertones. The softer atmospheric choice — reads as considered minimalist against darker walls and richer-toned furnishings, catches the warm evening bulb light in the softest register. Correct for coastal-inspired, Scandinavian-minimalist, Japandi, and Nordic interiors where the fixture should quietly integrate rather than dominate. Also correct for interiors where the wood body should complement (rather than contrast) light-toned oak or maple furniture.

Where the Tronco lives

Six rooms it belongs in.

i.

Room 01 · Living room corner

Behind a sofa or side of the sofa.

The Tronco's primary application. 63" tall places the shade at roughly eye-level for a seated adult on a standard sofa — provides warm ambient in the reading corner of a living room without demanding attention. Position 6-12" from the sofa arm, angled slightly toward the seating for optimal reading light on your book or magazine.

ii.

Room 02 · Reading corner

Beside a reading chair or armchair.

A dedicated reading corner — armchair or wingback chair with the Tronco positioned behind or beside the chair, angled forward to cast warm reading light across the seat. The single-piece solid wood construction and clean white shade read as considered scholarly-reading register, particularly correct for library-style rooms, den studies, and home offices where slow evening reading is the room's purpose.

iii.

Room 03 · Bedroom corner

Bedroom accent or beside the bed.

In a bedroom corner as accent, or positioned beside a king or queen bed as ceiling-suspension-alternative bedside lighting. The warm walnut or nature ash body pairs beautifully with white bedding and neutral bedroom palettes. Warm evening register (particularly at reduced brightness via dimmable bulb + wall dimmer combination) is calibrated for pre-sleep atmospheric ambient.

iv.

Room 04 · Entryway foyer

Foyer welcome or hallway anchor.

A single Tronco beside a hallway console or in an entryway corner signals sophisticated wood-craft interior register from the moment guests enter. The 63" height reads as intentional considered accent — appropriate for foyers with 9-11 ft ceilings where the vertical proportion is a positive design decision rather than an accident.

v.

Room 05 · Home office

Home office and studio accent.

Corner accent in a home office or writer's studio — the solid wood body adds craft-forward warmth to workspaces typically dominated by monitor blue-light and industrial materials. Position beside a reading chair for coffee-break reading, or behind a desk chair for warm ambient during evening work sessions. Best paired with a task lamp for actual detailed work.

vi.

Room 06 · Boutique hospitality

Hotel guest rooms and boutique spaces.

Boutique-hotel guest room corners, Airbnb-styled short-term rentals, MCM and Nordic residential renovations, and multi-unit residential specifications where the solid-wood-craft register reads as considered upscale interior specification. Matched-batch pair coordination available for symmetrical installations. Trade programs and bulk pricing for larger orders.

Before you buy

Questions.

Will my Tronco look exactly like the reference photo?

Very close, with subtle handmade wood variation. The Tronco body is turned from solid wood (walnut or nature ash) on the lathe, and by definition solid wood shows subtle variations between individual pieces — the exact grain pattern, colour intensity, and mineral streak positions will vary slightly. What you receive will be a Tronco-family fixture with its own handmade wood personality. Two Tronco lamps placed side by side in a room will read as considered matched-craft pair, not as accidental mismatch. If you appreciate handmade natural materials, this is exactly what you want.

Walnut or Nature — how do I choose?

Walnut — rich dark-brown warm wood with visible flame-grain patterns. Correct for interiors that already have strong warm elements (leather sofas, terracotta accents, other walnut furniture, dark hardwood floors) — the Tronco walnut anchors the palette rather than competes with it. Also correct for Japandi and Mid-Century Modern interiors where dark walnut is the traditional wood specification. The graphic dramatic choice. Nature Ash — light honey-blonde warm wood with straight tight grain. Correct for interiors with lighter palettes (white oak floors, cream walls, coastal-inspired schemes, Scandinavian-minimalist furniture) where a dark walnut would visually dominate. The softer atmospheric choice. Also correct for interiors where the Tronco should complement (rather than contrast) light-toned furniture. If in doubt, the Nature Ash is the more universally compatible option; Walnut is more visually assertive.

Is 63" too tall for a standard living room?

No — 63" is standard tall-floor-lamp proportion. Standard US and international floor lamps range from 55-70" tall; the Tronco at 63" sits in the middle of that range and works comfortably in rooms with standard 8-9 ft ceilings. The shade sits at roughly eye-level for a seated adult on a standard-height sofa (which is the correct height for reading-light applications). For rooms with 7-8 ft ceilings (unusually low), the Tronco may feel slightly tall — measure your ceiling clearance before ordering. For rooms with 10+ ft ceilings, the Tronco reads as intentional considered accent rather than statement (which is the correct behaviour for a floor lamp).

About the included bulb — and can I upgrade?

Bulb included. Every Tronco ships with a standard non-dimmable warm-white LED bulb pre-fitted in the E26 (US) or E27 (EU/UK/AU) socket, calibrated to 2700K for correct warm-glow character through the white fabric drum shade. Plug it in, tap the inline switch, done. If you want to upgrade: the socket accepts any standard E26/E27 bulb. For dimming, swap in a dimmable warm-white LED. For vintage-warm character, an E26 filament Edison bulb (LED equivalent recommended over incandescent for safety) provides amber warm tones that pair particularly beautifully with the walnut wood body. Widely available at Home Depot, IKEA, Amazon. Maximum 40W.

Can I buy two for a matched pair on opposite ends of the sofa?

Yes — matched Tronco pairs positioned on either side of a sofa or opposite corners of a living room is one of the fixture's most-loved installations. Because each Tronco body is turned from a unique piece of solid wood, individual units will show subtly different grain patterns — this natural variation reads as considered handmade craft pair rather than manufacturing defect. If you require particularly close matching between two units, request "matched-batch pair" in the order notes at checkout or email support@stuberlighting.com before placing the order — we'll pull both units from the same production batch and select for closest grain-pattern similarity. No additional charge.

Can I dim it?

Yes with the correct combination. The pre-fitted bulb is non-dimmable, and the inline switch on the cord operates as on/off only. For dimming, swap the included bulb for a dimmable E26/E27 warm-white LED (widely available; check package for "dimmable" label), and plug the Tronco into a wall outlet controlled by a triac-compatible wall dimmer (Lutron Diva and Caseta triac dimmers are known LED-compatible). At 30-50% brightness the white fabric shade catches light at its most atmospheric register — particularly correct for evening ambient and pre-sleep bedroom use.

Is 40W bright enough for reading?

For casual reading in a corner reading chair or beside a sofa, yes — the Tronco is calibrated as an atmospheric warm accent floor lamp that also provides serviceable reading light for standard-print books and magazines at correct reading distance (12-24" from your reading material). The included warm-white LED (equivalent to 40W incandescent) provides comfortable light for evening reading sessions. For extended detailed task reading, small-print books, or paper work sessions, we recommend supplementing with a dedicated task lamp. The Tronco's purpose is warm ambient character and craft-forward interior accent — not overhead-quality task illumination.

How do I clean and maintain the wood?

Solid wood body: wipe with soft dry microfibre cloth for regular dust; for stubborn marks, slightly damp microfibre with mild dish soap solution then dry immediately. Every 6-12 months, treat with a light wood conditioner (Howard Feed-N-Wax or similar) or beeswax polish to preserve the grain and prevent drying — solid walnut and ash respond well to periodic feeding and will darken and richen with age. Avoid ammonia cleaners, harsh solvents, or prolonged direct sunlight exposure (may cause colour shift over time). White fabric shade: gently vacuum with a fabric-brush attachment on lowest suction setting to remove dust every 3-6 months. For spot marks, gentle spot-clean with dry-cleaning solvent applied via clean white cloth, blotted gently — do not rub, and never machine-wash or soak in water.

Trade programs and hospitality installations?

Yes — the Tronco is a specified fixture for boutique-hotel guest room corners, Airbnb-styled short-term rentals, Japandi and Nordic-heritage residential projects, and multi-unit residential specifications where the solid-wood-craft register reads as considered upscale interior specification. Matched-batch pair coordination available for symmetrical installations at no extra charge. Trade programs, project management for larger orders, and bulk pricing for orders of 20+ units (mix Walnut and Nature Ash across the order). Production lead times run 4-6 weeks. A note from the atelier

"The Tronco is our tribute to the Scandinavian and Japandi solid-wood floor-lamp tradition — one continuous piece of turned wood, a plain white fabric shade, sixty-three inches of quiet corner presence. Choose walnut for warmer richer interiors; choose nature ash for lighter Scandinavian and Japandi schemes. Every unit is unique. Handmade means small variations. Nothing more required."
