MURANO GLASS · ITALIAN ATELIER

Teardrops of glass,
caught in a grid.

The Stella suspends hand-blown Italian Murano glass in a precision nickel grid — three to seven tiers of teardrops cascading like falling rain frozen in motion. It is the language of Mid-Century Italian glassmaking applied at architectural scale: the form Art Deco, the craft centuries-old, the light unmistakable.

I. THE GLASS

From Venice, by way
of a furnace.

For seven hundred years, the glassblowers of the Venetian lagoon — first on the island of Murano by decree of the Doge in 1291, who feared the city's wooden buildings would burn — have made glass the way no one else has. Each teardrop in a Stella chandelier is blown by hand, not pressed, not moulded — gathered as molten glass from the furnace, shaped against a marver, opened and elongated by breath and gravity, then severed and finished one piece at a time. No two teardrops have identical curve, identical thickness, identical interior bubble pattern. They are individuals, hung together.

This matters in the room. Where a pressed-glass chandelier delivers uniform reflection — a hundred identical lights identical surfaces — the Stella delivers something closer to scattered: each teardrop catches the bulb behind it at its own angle, with its own micro-irregularities, producing a surface that lives. From across the room it reads as movement frozen mid-fall.

II. THE FRAME

Art Deco geometry,
structured in nickel.

The teardrops are held by a precise rectangular grid — a Metal Grid frame in polished nickel (default) or polished gold, depending on your interior palette. The grid is not decorative. It is the discipline that lets the chaos of hand-blown glass read as composition rather than collection: every teardrop occupies its own coordinate in a deliberate Mid-Century Modern matrix.

Polished Nickel — the default, slightly warmer and softer than chrome, with the depth that has made nickel the choice of fine residential lighting for over a century. Polished Gold — for warmer, more Hollywood-Regency interiors, or where the Stella sits among other gold-toned hardware. Both options are available on every size.

To request the Polished Gold frame: leave a note at checkout, or email service@stuberlighting.com after ordering. We will confirm before production.

III. SIZES

Nine configurations.
Five standard, four tall.

Standard heights

3-Layer 20.9"⌀ × 18.1"H Intimate dining · breakfast nook · entry vestibule
4-Layer 20.5"⌀ × 21.7"H Standard dining · 6-seat table · standard foyer
5-Layer 26"⌀ × 24.8"H Family dining · 8-10 seat table · open kitchen island
6-Layer 31.5"⌀ × 27.5"H Large dining · 10-12 seat table · single-storey grand foyer
7-Layer 41.3"⌀ × 39"H Grand statement · banquet · mansion-scale dining

Tall heights — for vertical architectural spaces

5-Layer Tall 26"⌀ × 29.5"H Modest vaulted living room · two-storey entry
6-Layer Tall A 29.5"⌀ × 37.4"H Standard two-storey foyer · 12–14 ft ceiling
6-Layer Tall B 31.5"⌀ × 34.3"H Wider two-storey foyer · 12–14 ft ceiling
7-Layer Tall 31.5"⌀ × 43.3"H Grand two-storey foyer · staircase void · 16–22 ft ceiling

Not certain which size? Write to service@stuberlighting.com with your ceiling height, room dimensions, and table size (if applicable). We will recommend the right configuration before you order — and coordinate custom chain length if your installation requires more than the standard 19-inch drop.

IV. WHAT TO KNOW

Considered in every detail.

Bulbs included.

The Stella ships with its complete set of warm-white E14 LED bulbs — count matched to the layer configuration. Warm white (2700–3000K) is the temperature that brings Murano glass alive; cool white would flatten it. Dimmable-compatible if you swap to dimmable E14 LEDs and pair with a triac wall dimmer — strongly recommended for dining-room atmosphere.

Polished nickel — or gold.

Polished nickel is the default — slightly warmer than chrome, less mirror-bright, more enduring with age. Polished gold is available on every size for Hollywood-Regency, warm-toned, or gold-hardware interiors. Leave a note at checkout or email after ordering to switch finish; we confirm before production begins.

Chain extension on request.

Standard 19-inch (50cm) drop chain. For double-height foyers, staircase voids, or any ceiling configuration requiring more drop, write to us with your ceiling-to-floor and desired bottom-of-fixture measurements — we coordinate custom chain length with shipment at no extra charge for reasonable extensions.

Professional installation.

The Stella is substantial — particularly the 7-Layer and 7-Layer Tall configurations require a heavy-duty ceiling junction box anchored to ceiling framing rather than drywall. Always install via a licensed electrician with chandelier-installation experience. We provide installer-facing documentation with every shipment.

V. WHERE IT BELONGS

Rooms with vocabulary.

Over a walnut Mid-Century dining table with leather sling chairs and a brass-and-marble bar cart, the 5- or 6-Layer Stella centres the room with the Mid-Century vocabulary it deserves — glass and metal grid against wood and leather, geometry against organic form.

In an Art Deco-inspired interior — fluted velvet, lacquered surfaces, sunburst mirrors — the polished gold variant pairs with the existing gilt language, while the Murano teardrops echo the era's love of cascading silhouettes and luminous materials.

In double-height foyers and grand staircase voids, the Tall variants — particularly the 7-Layer Tall at 31.5" diameter × 43.3" drop — fill vertical architecture the way few fixtures can. The narrow-tall proportion follows staircase geometry; the layered teardrops read from both ground floor and second-floor landing. Equally appropriate for hospitality applications — boutique hotel lobbies, fine dining restaurant entries, designer-coordinated commercial installations.

VII. QUESTIONS

Before you order.

Is the glass genuinely Murano? +

The Stella's teardrops are produced using traditional Venetian glassblowing technique — hand-gathered from a furnace, hand-shaped on a marver, hand-finished one piece at a time. The technique and aesthetic lineage trace directly to the Murano tradition. We are transparent: in fine residential lighting at this scale, the choice is between true certified-Murano (priced at $8,000–$30,000+ per fixture from designated Italian houses) and traditional-Murano-technique pieces produced in equally-qualified glassblowing studios. The Stella is the latter — true blown glass, true Italian-tradition technique, accessibly priced. If certification matters more than the material itself, we recommend purchasing from a certified Murano house directly.

Which size for my dining table? +

By dining table size: 4-6 seater → 3-Layer or 4-Layer · 6-8 seater → 4 or 5-Layer · 8-10 seater → 5 or 6-Layer · 10-12+ seater → 6 or 7-Layer.

By ceiling type: Standard 9-foot residential → standard heights (3-7 Layer). Two-storey foyer 12-14 ft → 5-Layer Tall, 6-Layer Tall A, or 6-Layer Tall B. Grand two-storey 16-22 ft → 7-Layer Tall.

The chandelier diameter should be roughly half to two-thirds the dining table width. Hang the lowest teardrop 30–36 inches above the table surface for residential dining applications, or align the chandelier within the upper third of the room volume for foyers and double-height architecture.

Polished nickel or polished gold — which finish? +

Polished nickel — the default. Works in the widest range of interiors: Mid-Century Modern, Transitional, Contemporary, Coastal-leaning Modern. Slightly warmer and softer than chrome, less mirror-bright, ages with grace rather than wearing.

Polished gold — for warmer, more Art Deco / Hollywood Regency / French-influenced interiors. Pairs with gold-tone hardware, brass elements, warm wood tones. To request polished gold: leave a note at checkout or email service@stuberlighting.com after ordering — we confirm before production begins.

Will every Stella look exactly like the photos? +

No — and this is the point of choosing hand-blown glass rather than pressed. Each teardrop has its own curve, thickness, and interior pattern. Your Stella will be subtly different from the photographs and from every other Stella produced. This is the material's signature, not a defect. For projects requiring multiple matched fixtures (a coordinated dining + foyer pair, a hospitality installation of multiple units), write to service@stuberlighting.com — we can coordinate matched-batch material across the order with our atelier.

Can I dim it? +

Yes — strongly recommended for dining applications. The Stella's standard included E14 LED bulbs are non-dimmable. To enable full dimming: replace with dimmable E14 LEDs (widely available, $10–18 each) and wire through a compatible triac wall dimmer. At 30–40% brightness, the teardrops shift from full illumination to a soft Murano glow — the canonical Italian-glass-chandelier dining atmosphere.

How do I clean Murano glass? +

Routine: dust with a soft microfibre cloth every 2-3 months. Deeper cleaning: a soft cloth lightly dampened with warm water and a few drops of pH-neutral mild dish soap — wipe individual teardrops, dry immediately with a separate dry microfibre. Never use ammonia-based glass cleaners, abrasive sponges, or steam. For larger sizes (6-Layer+), book annual professional chandelier cleaning — the same crews who service traditional crystal chandeliers handle Murano. The polished nickel or gold frame is wiped with dry microfibre only.

"In Murano, the rules say a master glassblower must train for fifteen years before he is permitted to lead a furnace. The Stella is built in that lineage."
