Hand-blown spiral glass · pendant no. 09
Spira.
A glass sphere with a spiral twist. Five candy colours. Two sizes. Bulb pre-fitted.
Our tribute to the Italian hand-blown spherical pendant tradition — a round-globe glass shade wrapped in a signature spiral ribbed texture that catches E26/E27 warm-white bulb light in the softest milk-and-honey ambient register. Handcrafted from carefully blown coloured glass, finished with a silver top cap and 59" black wire suspension. Five vibrant candy colours. Two sizes for compact-to-mid-scale rooms.
Each Spira is hand-blown, and so no two glass spheres are exactly alike — the spiral ribbing density, the colour intensity, and the subtle asymmetries of the sphere are inherent to the handmade material. This is the point.
The five colours

On the spiral, the sphere, and the hand
Blown by hand.
Twisted while hot.
Cooled into shape.
Each Spira begins as a molten glob of coloured glass gathered on the end of a blowpipe. The glassmaker inflates it into a rough sphere while continuously turning the pipe on the marver — the rotation is what produces the signature spiral ribbing, twisting the glass surface into the diagonal ridges that catch light in the vertical rippling pattern you see when the fixture is illuminated.
The wall thickness is deliberately calibrated — thick enough to hold saturated candy colour when unlit, thin enough to let warm E26 bulb light pass through and produce the milk-and-honey glow character when illuminated. The colour palette is drawn from mid-twentieth-century Italian art glass tradition (Murano-adjacent, though not Murano-authenticated) — five saturated but never garish colours calibrated to sit comfortably alongside modern interior schemes.
Because each Spira is hand-blown, small variations between individual fixtures are inherent to the material — the spiral density will vary slightly, the exact colour saturation will vary slightly, the sphere symmetry will show subtle handmade asymmetries. This is not manufacturing inconsistency. This is how honest hand-blown glass behaves. Two Spira lamps hung side by side over a kitchen island will read as a considered matched-craft pair, not as accidental mismatch.
Choose your candy
Five moods, five rooms.
Colour 01
Yellow.
Warm honey saturated glow when unlit; morning-sun amber when illuminated. Correct for sunlit dining rooms, breakfast nooks, and any interior that wants a shot of California-mid-century-optimism. Catches warm E26 bulb light in the warmest register of the five colours.
Colour 02
Pink.
Soft rose gelato-adjacent pink when unlit; warm blushing glow when illuminated. Correct for breakfast nooks, children's rooms, dressing vanities, and interiors that want warmth without full colour commitment. Pairs beautifully with wood tones and neutral walls.
Colour 03
Light Blue.
Sky-blue pastel powder when unlit; softer neutral warm-white glow when illuminated (the blue tempers the bulb's warmth into a balanced ambient character). Correct for coastal-inspired kitchens, bathrooms, calm bedrooms, and Scandinavian interiors. The most versatile of the four colours.
Colour 04
Blue.
Deep sapphire saturated blue when unlit; moody warm-amber glow when illuminated (the deep saturation produces particularly dramatic evening ambient register). Correct for living-room reading corners, moody dining rooms, home offices, and boutique-hospitality spaces where the fixture should read as considered statement.
Colour 05
White.
Soft translucent milk-white when unlit; classic warm ambient glow when illuminated. Correct for interiors where the fixture should quietly integrate rather than dominate — modern minimalist kitchens, neutral dining rooms, and any interior that already has strong colour commitment elsewhere. The safe choice.
Choose your scale
Small for solo. Large for statement.
Size 01
Small.
⌀ 11.8" (30 cm)

Single over a small round dining table or breakfast nook, trio over a compact-to-mid kitchen island, single over an entryway console. Also correct for bedside suspension over-nightstand in Japandi and Scandinavian bedrooms. The everyday-use size.
Size 02 ★
Large.
⌀ 15.7" (40 cm)

Single over a full-size dining table (seating 4-6), trio over a generous kitchen island (36-40" apart), or single over an entryway foyer. Also correct as statement pendant over a coffee-table centrepiece. The primary "attention-anchor" scale.
Proportions shown at scale — Large is about a third wider than Small.
Where the Spira lives
Six rooms it belongs in.
Kitchen islands. — trio · Small or Large.
The Spira's primary application. Three Small (11.8") pendants spaced 24-30" apart over a compact kitchen island, or three Large (15.7") spaced 32-36" apart over a longer island. Position the shade bottom 30-36" above the counter surface for correct sight-line above seated diners. Coordinated matched-colour trio is the standard specification; mixed-colour trio also popular for playful coastal or Scandinavian interiors.
Dining tables. — single · Large.
A single Large (15.7") over a full-size dining table seating 4-6. Position the shade bottom 30-36" above the table surface. The hand-blown spherical form and spiral ribbed texture read particularly beautifully in warm evening dinner light — one of the most-loved dining fixture applications. Correct for round and rectangular tables.
Breakfast nooks and small tables. — single · Small.
A single Small (11.8") over a compact breakfast nook, café-style dining corner, or 2-4 seat kitchen booth. The candy colour palette is particularly correct for morning-routine spaces — the warm yellow or soft pink reads as considered cheer-forward interior register without being over-the-top.
Reading corners and living rooms. — single · Small or Large.
A single Small in a corner reading nook above a chair or love seat; a Large as considered living-room-corner statement. Deep blue is particularly correct for moody reading corners; light blue for calm Scandinavian living rooms; white for interiors where the fixture should quietly integrate.
Bedrooms and kids' rooms. — single · Small.
A single Small suspended over-bed in a Japandi or Scandinavian bedroom, or as playful accent in a children's bedroom or nursery. Pink and light blue are particularly correct for kids' rooms — the candy palette reads as considered playful without being cartoon-loud, and the hand-blown glass adds craft-forward register to typically simpler kids-room fixtures.
Boutique hospitality. — mixed colours.
Boutique cafés, restaurant dining rooms, hospitality reception, gelato and pastry shops, small hotel breakfast rooms, and retail-forward interiors where mixed-colour Spira installations produce coordinated craft-forward signature. Trade programs available for multi-unit installations; matched-batch coordination on request; bulk pricing for orders of 20+ units. Production lead times run 4-6 weeks.
Installation
Hardwired · adjustable · plug-in adapter available.
The Spira mounts via a silver ceiling canopy that covers a standard J-box connection. Ships with 59" (150 cm) of black wire suspension — extension available upon request at no additional charge, specify at checkout or leave a note. Wire height is adjustable during installation for correct clearance above kitchen islands, dining tables, and other surfaces.
A plug-in cord adapter accessory is available for renters, spaces without ceiling J-boxes, or temporary installations — convert the fixture to plug-in mode with an in-line switch. Contact support@stuberlighting.com before ordering (or leave a note at checkout) to request the plug-in adapter at no additional charge.
Bulb included. Every Spira ships with a standard non-dimmable warm-white LED bulb pre-fitted in the E26 (US) or E27 (EU/UK/AU) socket, calibrated to 2700K for correct warm-glow character through the coloured hand-blown glass. For dimming, swap in a dimmable warm-white LED. For vintage character, an E26 Edison filament bulb provides amber warm tones that pair particularly beautifully with yellow and pink shades. Widely available at Home Depot, IKEA, Amazon. Maximum 40W per socket.

Before you buy
Questions.
Will my Spira look exactly like the reference photo? ✼
Very close, with subtle handmade variation. Every Spira is hand-blown, and hand-blown glass by definition shows small variations between individual pieces — the spiral ribbing density, the exact colour saturation, the sphere symmetry, and the wall thickness will vary slightly. What you receive will be a Spira-family fixture with its own handmade personality. Two Spira lamps hung side by side over a kitchen island will read as considered matched-craft pair, not as accidental mismatch. If you appreciate handmade materials, this is exactly what you want; if you require industrial machine-perfect consistency, the Spira may not be the correct choice.
Which colour for which room? ✼
Yellow — sunlit dining rooms, breakfast nooks, cheerful modern kitchens. The warmest most-optimistic of the five colours. Pink — breakfast nooks, dressing vanities, children's rooms, feminine bedrooms. Adds warmth without full colour commitment. Light Blue — coastal-inspired kitchens, calm bedrooms, Scandinavian dining rooms. The most versatile of the four coloured options. Blue — moody living-room reading corners, dramatic dining rooms, home offices, boutique-hospitality where the fixture should read as statement. White — modern minimalist kitchens, neutral dining rooms, and any interior that wants the hand-blown craft register without the colour commitment. The safe choice.
Is this authentic Murano glass? ✼
No — Murano-adjacent inspired, but not Murano-authenticated. "Murano glass" is a protected designation-of-origin term that refers specifically to hand-blown glass produced on the island of Murano in Venice, Italy. Our Spira is hand-blown coloured glass drawing on the broader Italian art-glass tradition (of which Murano is the most-famous but not the only example), but it is not produced on Murano itself and does not carry Murano authentication. It is an accessible interpretation of the hand-blown-glass typology at a modern manufacturing price point. For authenticated Murano glass fixtures, we recommend consulting authorized Murano retailers directly.
Small or Large — how do I choose? ✼
Small (⌀ 11.8") — trio over compact kitchen islands (24-30" apart), single over breakfast nooks, small dining tables (2-4 seats), entryway consoles, bedside suspension. The everyday-use size. Large (⌀ 15.7") — single over full-size dining tables (seating 4-6), trio over generous kitchen islands (32-36" apart), foyer suspension, coffee-table statement. The primary attention-anchor size. If you're outfitting a kitchen island, the size depends on island length: compact (5-6 ft) → Small trio at 24-30" spacing; standard (7-8 ft) → Small trio at 30-36" or Large trio at 32-36"; long (9+ ft) → Large trio at 36-40" spacing.
About the included bulb — and can I upgrade? ✼
Bulb included. Every Spira ships with a standard non-dimmable warm-white LED bulb pre-fitted in the E26 (US) or E27 (EU/UK/AU) socket, calibrated to 2700K for correct warm-glow character through the coloured hand-blown glass. Wire the fixture, tap the wall switch, done. If you want to upgrade: the socket accepts any standard E26 (US) or E27 (EU/UK/AU) bulb. For dimming, swap in a dimmable warm-white LED. For vintage character, an E26 Edison filament bulb (LED equivalent recommended over incandescent for safety) provides amber warm tones that pair particularly beautifully with yellow and pink shades. Widely available at Home Depot, IKEA, Amazon. Maximum 40W per socket.
Can I use this in a kitchen over a stove or bathroom shower? ✼
No — indoor dry locations only. The Spira is IP20-rated. It should not be installed over kitchen cooking surfaces (steam and grease will deposit on the glass and are difficult to clean off ribbed texture), in bathroom shower areas with sustained humidity, or in any location exposed to sustained moisture. Correct installations: over kitchen islands (away from the cooking zone), over dining tables, in living rooms, bedrooms, entryway foyers, hallways, breakfast nooks, and boutique-hospitality dry-location dining and reception areas.
Can I dim it? ✼
Yes with the correct combination. The pre-fitted bulb is non-dimmable. For dimming, swap the included bulb for a dimmable E26/E27 warm-white LED (widely available; check package for "dimmable" label), and wire the fixture to a triac-compatible wall dimmer (Lutron Diva and Caseta triac dimmers are known LED-compatible). At 30-60% brightness the coloured hand-blown glass reads at its most atmospheric register — particularly correct for evening dinner ambient and pre-sleep bedroom register.
I'm a renter — can I plug it in instead of hardwiring? ✼
Yes — we offer a plug-in cord adapter accessory that converts the Spira from hardwired to plug-in mode. The plug-in cord is a 5m (196") black fabric-covered cord with an inline switch and standard region plug, designed to hang from a ceiling hook and plug into any wall outlet. Ideal for renters, spaces without J-boxes, and temporary installations. Contact support@stuberlighting.com before ordering (or leave a note at checkout) to request the plug-in adapter — we'll swap the standard hardwired kit for the plug-in components at no additional charge. Standard region plugs available: US, UK, AU, EU.
How do I clean the hand-blown glass? ✼
Gentle glass-safe cleaning. Wipe the glass shade with a soft dry microfibre cloth for regular dust; for stubborn marks, dampen microfibre with mild dish soap solution or diluted standard glass cleaner (Windex-type products are safe on the coloured hand-blown glass), then dry immediately with a fresh cloth. Pay particular attention to the spiral ribbed grooves — dust tends to settle into the ribbed pattern; a soft dry paintbrush or feather duster works well for getting into the grooves without abrasion. Never use abrasive scouring pads or steel wool. Silver metal top cap: wipe with damp microfibre; avoid abrasive cleaners.
Trade programs and hospitality installations? ✼
Yes — the Spira is a specified fixture for boutique cafés, restaurant dining rooms, gelato and pastry shops, hospitality reception spaces, small hotel breakfast rooms, boutique retail interiors, kids-forward interior projects, and multi-unit residential specifications where the hand-blown coloured-glass register reads as considered upscale craft-forward interior specification. Mixed-colour installations produce coordinated candy-colour signature across trios and rows. Trade programs available; matched-batch coordination for multi-fixture installations at no additional charge; project management for larger orders; bulk pricing for orders of 20+ units (mix and match across colours and sizes). Production lead times run 4-6 weeks. Write to support@stuberlighting.com with your project brief.
