MURANO GLASS · IRIDESCENT

Rose glass,
rainbow-touched.

Twenty-plus hand-blown discs of soft pink Murano glass, each finished with an iridescent surface treatment that shifts subtly across blue, gold, and green as you move around the room. Held on a polished nickel frame. Compact, deliberate, and unmistakably romantic — the fixture for the room that already has everything else figured out.

I · The finish

What "iridescent" actually means.

Iridescence is not a colour. It's a physical property — the way certain surfaces refract light differently at different angles, producing a shift of colours across the visible spectrum as the viewer moves. The wings of certain butterflies do this. The inside of an abalone shell does this. In hand-blown glass, iridescence is achieved by exposing the glass to metallic vapour while it is still hot from the furnace — a thin coating of tin or titanium bonds to the outer surface, creating an angle-dependent optical effect.

The Rosalia's discs are pink at their core — the colour of the glass itself, coloured with gold chloride during the melt. But their surface is iridescent. Depending on how the light hits them and where you're standing in the room, you'll see hints of green, gold, indigo, and violet moving across the pink. This is a fixture that behaves differently in the morning than at sunset, differently from the seat at the head of the table than from the doorway. It is designed to be looked at more than once.

II · The form

Discs, not spheres. Discs, not petals.

Most Murano chandeliers deploy their glass as spheres, teardrops, or petals — forms designed to be looked at as objects. The Rosalia does something different: each glass element is a flat disc, roughly the size of a small saucer, with a subtle inward curve. Discs are surfaces, not objects. They read as planes of light rather than as decorated volumes.

Arranged in a layered formation around the polished nickel frame, the discs face outward and slightly downward. Light from the interior sockets passes through their pink-and-iridescent surface and spreads across the room as a soft, warm-toned wash rather than concentrated points. The effect is closer to the diffused glow of a paper lantern than to the sparkling reflection of a crystal chandelier — but with pink-shift iridescent character that neither paper nor crystal can produce.

III · A single size

Deliberately compact.

The Rosalia is produced in a single size — 19.7 inches in diameter, 19.7 inches in height. The proportion is deliberate: substantial enough to anchor a small dining table, entry foyer, or dressing room without over-scaling; compact enough to work above a bed, at the centre of a bedroom, or in a girls' room where a larger fixture would overwhelm.

Rosalia 19.7" ⌀ × 19.7" H
Suggested rooms Primary bedroom · dressing room · girls' room · small dining · entry
Not suited to 10+ seat dining · double-height foyers · grand living rooms

For larger rooms or two-storey foyers, consider our Stella Teardrop or Skylar Cascade instead — the Rosalia is deliberately intimate and will look under-scaled in mansion-scale interiors.

IV · The craft

Considered in every detail.

Bulbs included.

The Rosalia ships with its full set of E12 warm-white LED bulbs. 2700K warm-white is chosen deliberately: it's the temperature at which the pink glass reads as rose rather than magenta, and at which the iridescent shift produces the softest, most romantic colour play. Dimmable-compatible if you swap to dimmable E12 LEDs and pair with a triac wall dimmer — the fixture is at its most enchanting at 30-50% brightness.

Nickel, not gold.

The polished nickel frame is a deliberate design choice — cooler-toned than the polished gold of our other Murano fixtures, it lets the pink discs be the visual event rather than competing with a warm-toned frame. Nickel also softens with age in a way that gold does not, developing character rather than showing plating wear.

Adjustable chain.

Standard 11.8-inch adjustable drop chain. Extendable on request for vaulted bedrooms or higher-than-standard ceilings. Write to service@stuberlighting.com with your ceiling-to-floor and desired hanging height before ordering.

Individual variation.

Each disc is hand-blown and hand-finished — subtle differences in pink intensity, iridescent depth, and surface pattern remain by design. Your Rosalia will be subtly different from photographs and from every other Rosalia produced. This is the material's signature; machine-pressed glass would look identical across every unit, which is not what hand-blown Murano-tradition production produces.

V · Where it belongs

Rooms that ask for softness.

A dressing room or boudoir — this is the Rosalia's most obvious home. Above a marble-topped vanity, over a velvet-upholstered chaise, at the centre of a walk-in closet: the pink-and-iridescent character is exactly the register these rooms exist to hold. The fixture reads as considered, expensive, and personal rather than showy.

A primary bedroom — hung above the foot of the bed or centred over the room, the Rosalia adds warmth without demanding attention. Particularly effective in Modern French interiors of pale linen and warm wood, or in Hollywood-Regency bedrooms of fluted velvet and lacquered surfaces.

A girls' room — the Rosalia is the correct fixture for a girls' or teen daughter's room that has aged beyond nursery-style lighting but is not yet ready for the seriousness of an adult chandelier. Reads pink-appropriate without being juvenile; substantial enough to grow into.

A small dining room, an entry foyer, or a Modern French vignette — anywhere the pink-and-iridescent glass wants to be an unexpected note in an otherwise neutral palette. Particularly effective over intimate 4- to 6-seat dining tables where the fixture is close enough to catch every guest's eye.

We can customize the color (as shown below).

VII · Questions

What does "iridescent" look like in person?

The best analogy is the inside of an abalone or paua shell — that shifting play of pink, green, gold, indigo, and violet as you move around the piece. On the Rosalia, the pink is the underlying colour; the iridescence is a surface treatment layered on top. From directly below, you see mostly pink with subtle rainbow shimmer at the edges of each disc. From an angle — walking around the room, sitting at a dressing table — the iridescent shift becomes much more apparent, with green and gold notes appearing where the pink was pure a moment before. It is fundamentally an angle-dependent effect, which means the fixture behaves differently depending on how people move through the room.

Is this too pink for a room that isn't pink?

Not necessarily. The Rosalia's pink is soft and rose-toned rather than saturated hot-pink — it reads as warmth rather than as colour. In a neutral room (linen, cream, pale walnut, warm marble), the pink adds a subtle warm accent without demanding the entire palette shift. In a room that leans grey or cool-toned, the pink is a deliberate contrast and works as long as you want that contrast. The Rosalia is not the right choice for interiors that specifically reject warm accents — for those, our Skylar Pearl Cascade or Bianca in Blue is a better fit.

How is this different from the Calanthe Petal Bloom in Pink?

Same glass tradition, very different fixture. The Calanthe uses petal-shaped glass in flat, uniform pink on a polished gold frame — larger, more Art Deco, more architectural, three sizes up to 35 inches. The Rosalia uses disc-shaped glass with an iridescent surface treatment on a polished nickel frame — smaller, more romantic, more soft-focused, single size at 19.7 inches. If you want a Grand statement over a large dining table, the Calanthe in Pink is the correct choice. If you want a romantic accent for a bedroom, dressing room, or intimate space, the Rosalia is the correct choice. Different scales, different rooms, different atmospheres.

Is the glass genuinely Murano?

The Rosalia is produced using Murano-tradition technique — hand-blown, batch-coloured glass with iridescent surface treatment applied in the still-hot state, in the manner of the original Venetian tradition. We are transparent about the distinction in fine residential lighting between certified-Murano (from designated Italian houses, priced at $8,000+ per fixture) and Murano-technique pieces (produced in equally qualified glassblowing studios). The Rosalia is the latter — true hand-blown iridescent art glass, faithful to the tradition, accessibly priced. If certification is critical for your application, we recommend purchasing from a certified Murano house directly.

Can I dim it?

Yes — this is where the Rosalia becomes itself. The included E12 LED bulbs are non-dimmable. To enable full dimming: replace with dimmable E12 LEDs (widely available, $8-15 each) and wire through a compatible triac wall dimmer. At 30-50% brightness, the pink glass warms visibly, the iridescent shift becomes more pronounced, and the entire fixture takes on the quality of firelight through a window. For dressing rooms and bedrooms particularly, dimming is not optional — it is what makes the Rosalia work as an atmospheric fixture rather than as ordinary lighting.

How do I clean iridescent glass?

Gently. The iridescent surface is a metallic-vapour coating bonded to the outer glass — durable in normal use but sensitive to abrasive cleaners or ammonia-based glass sprays, which can dull the iridescent effect over time. Routine: dust with a soft microfibre cloth every 2-3 months. Deeper cleaning: a soft cloth barely dampened with warm water only (no soap, no glass cleaner) — wipe individual discs one at a time, dry immediately with a separate dry microfibre. Never use paper towels (fibres catch on the iridescent surface texture). The polished nickel frame is wiped with dry microfibre only.

"Iridescence is one of the few properties a chandelier can have that changes throughout the day. We chose it for the Rosalia because a bedroom, a dressing room, a small dining table — these are rooms that people actually spend time in, and rooms that reward fixtures that reveal something new the second and third time you look."
