Seven Colors
Nesso.
A mushroom dome that reads as sculpture when it's off and as a pool of warm light when it's on. Twelve-and-a-half inches across, nine inches tall, seven colors — the one object on a nightstand or console that people actually comment on.

The Form
MCMLXV
Italy · 1965
A shape that arrived in 1965 and never went out of date.
The mushroom-dome table lamp belongs to a specific moment in Italian design — the mid-1960s, when injection-molded plastics let designers draw a lamp as one continuous curve instead of assembling it from a base, a stem and a shade. Nothing bolted on. Nothing to hide. The whole object is a single swelling profile that flares out where it meets the table.
What that geometry does to light is the entire point. The dome is opaque on top and open underneath, so the bulb never faces you. Light rolls down the inner curve, exits at the rim, and lands on the surface below as a soft circular wash. You get glow without glare — the reason this shape ended up on so many nightstands, hotel consoles and photographers' tables and stayed there for six decades.
Our Nesso is an independent interpretation of that vocabulary, produced in molded PC over a metal base and offered in seven colors — including the saturated orange the silhouette is most associated with, plus a white that reads almost architectural, and five more that let the same form change its personality entirely.
The Palette
Seven colors. One silhouette.
Orange
White
Red
Blue
Green
Yellow
Light Blue
Orange is the signature and the one most people picture. White gives you the form without the color story. Red, blue and green read more grown-up; yellow and light blue are the softest, and go where you want color at low volume — kids' rooms, nurseries, powder rooms.
If you're buying two, a matched pair in contrasting colors flanking a console or a bed is how this shape is most often styled.
Materials
Two materials. Nothing decorative.
The Dome
Molded PC.
The shade is polycarbonate, molded and finished to a glossy surface that many people assume is glass until they pick it up. That's the trade this form has always made: PC allows the seamless single-piece curve, keeps the lamp light enough to move with one hand, and won't shatter if it gets knocked on a nightstand. Wipe with a soft damp cloth; no polish required.
The Base
Metal.
A metal base carries the socket and the weight, which is what stops a lamp this wide from feeling top-heavy. It sits flat and stays put — no wobble when you reach past it in the dark, and enough mass that the cord can't drag it off the edge of a narrow nightstand.
Where It Lives
Six rooms it belongs in.
At 12.6 inches across it needs a surface at least 14 inches deep — which is most nightstands, consoles and sideboards.
01
Bedside, as a pair.
Matched on both nightstands, or deliberately mismatched in two colors. The downward wash is bright enough to read by and low enough not to wake the person next to you. The inline switch sits on the cord within arm's reach of the pillow.
02
Living-room console.
Behind the sofa or under a mirror, where it does the job overhead lighting can't — a low warm pool at 30 inches off the floor that makes the whole room read softer in the evening. This is the placement most people photograph.
03
Reading corner.
On a side table beside an armchair. Because the bulb is fully concealed and the light exits downward, there's no bright spot in your peripheral vision while you read — the specific reason this dome outlasted most lamps of its era.
04
Entry console & hallway.
First thing anyone sees. A single saturated color on an entry table in red, orange or blue sets the tone for the rest of the house, and the low glow makes a narrow hallway feel finished rather than transitional.
05
Kids' room & playroom.
Yellow, light blue or green on a dresser. The PC shade won't shatter, the bulb is fully enclosed so there's nothing hot to touch, and the warm 2700K output works as a gentle nightlight. Keep the cord routed behind the furniture and out of reach.
06
Boutique hospitality.
Guest-room nightstands, reception desks, restaurant service stations and short-term rentals. One recognizable silhouette repeated across rooms gives a property a visual signature at low cost per key, and the molded shade survives housekeeping better than glass or fabric.

Setup
Out of the box, lit in a minute.
Bulb Included
Your Nesso ships with the bulb already installed.
A standard non-dimmable warm white LED bulb (2700K, E14 base) comes pre-installed in every lamp. Unpack it, plug it in, press the switch. Nothing to buy separately and nothing to source before your first evening with it.
Step One
Lift the dome free of the base, remove the packing, and seat the dome back down onto the base. Two parts, no tools, no hardware.
Step Two
Route the 59-inch cord behind the furniture and plug into any standard outlet. The lamp runs on AC 110–240V, so it works on US household current without a converter.
Step Three
Press the inline push-button switch on the cord to turn it on and off. It sits partway down the cord, so it lands within reach whether the lamp is on a nightstand or a console.
If You Want Dimming
Swap the included bulb for a dimmable E14 LED and add a plug-in dimmer adapter between the plug and the outlet — both are stocked at any US hardware store. Max 40W; don't exceed it.

The Scale
Wider than it is tall.
This is the measurement people get wrong. The Nesso is a low, broad object — it takes up more surface than a conventional table lamp but sits well below eye level when you're seated.

12.6in
Diameter · 32 cm
About the width of a standard vinyl record sleeve. Needs a surface at least 14 inches deep to sit comfortably with clearance around the rim.
9.1in
Height · 23 cm
Roughly the height of a wine bottle. Low enough that it won't block a mirror behind a console or crowd a headboard on a nightstand.
Quick check before you order: measure the depth of your nightstand or console. Under 14 inches and the dome will overhang. Between 14 and 18 inches is ideal for one lamp. Over 30 inches and you can run two side by side, which is how this shape is most often styled.
Questions
Answered plainly.
Is this an authentic or licensed Nesso from the original brand?⊛
No — and we want to be completely clear about that. This lamp is Stuberlighting's own independent interpretation of the mushroom-dome table lamp form that emerged in Italian design in the mid-1960s. It is not an authorized reproduction, not licensed or certified by any originating brand, foundation or estate, and not sold as an original or a collectible. Stuberlighting has no affiliation with, endorsement from, or connection to any third-party designer, manufacturer, museum or design archive. If you are looking for an authorized production piece, please purchase directly from the originating brand or through an authorized retailer such as Design Within Reach, Lumens, YLighting or the MoMA Design Store.
Does it come with a bulb?⊛
Yes — pre-installed. Every Nesso ships with a standard non-dimmable warm white LED bulb (2700K, E14 base) already fitted in the socket. You don't need to buy anything separately. If you ever want to replace or upgrade it, any E14 LED rated at 40W-equivalent or below will fit; E14 bulbs are carried at Home Depot, Lowe's and Amazon. Do not exceed Max 40W.
Is the shade glass or plastic?⊛
The shade is molded PC (polycarbonate), not glass. We'd rather say so plainly than let you find out after it arrives. The glossy finish reads convincingly like glass from a normal viewing distance, and PC is what makes the seamless single-piece curve possible in the first place — glass can't be formed this way at this scale without visible seams. The practical upside: the lamp is light enough to reposition with one hand and won't shatter if it gets knocked over on a nightstand. Clean with a soft damp cloth; avoid solvents or abrasive cleaners, which will dull the gloss.
Seven colors — which one should I order?⊛
Start with what the room already has. Orange is the signature — pick it if you want the lamp to be the thing people notice, and it sits beautifully against walnut and cream. White gives you the sculptural form without a color commitment; correct for minimalist and Scandinavian rooms. Red is deeper and more graphic than the orange, strongest in an entry. Blue reads the most grown-up and pairs with brass and oak. Green feels botanical rather than retro and disappears comfortably into rooms with plants and rattan. Yellow and Light Blue are the softest and work hardest in kids' rooms, nurseries and powder rooms. If you're buying two, orange and white together is the combination that gets photographed most.
Can I dim it?⊛
Not as shipped — the included bulb is non-dimmable and the inline switch is a simple on/off push button. To add dimming, do two things: replace the included bulb with a dimmable E14 LED, and add a plug-in dimmer adapter between the lamp's plug and the wall outlet. Both are widely available at any US hardware store or online. Keep the replacement bulb at or under Max 40W. If you'd rather not modify anything, the fixed 2700K output is already on the warm, low-glare end — most people find it comfortable for bedside reading as-is.
Where is the switch, and can the cord be longer?⊛
The switch is an inline push button positioned partway down the cord, not on the lamp body — so you reach for the cord rather than fumbling around the dome in the dark. The standard cord is 59 inches / 150 cm, which reaches most outlets from a nightstand or console. If your placement needs more, we can supply an extended cord on request; email support@stuberlighting.com before you order and note your product and required length.
Which plug option do I select?⊛
If you're in the United States or Canada, select US Plug. UK, AU and EU plug types are available for orders shipping to those regions. The lamp itself is rated AC 110–240V, so the internal electronics handle either standard — the plug option only determines the physical prong shape. No voltage converter is needed on US household current.
Is it safe in a child's room?⊛
The molded PC shade won't shatter the way glass would, the bulb is fully enclosed inside the dome with nothing exposed to touch, and the LED runs cool compared to an incandescent. The warm 2700K output makes a gentle nightlight. Two practical cautions, as with any corded lamp: route the cord behind furniture and secure it so it can't be pulled, and place the lamp far enough back on the dresser or nightstand that it can't be tipped off the edge. Supervise young children around any plug-in fixture.
Do you work with trade and hospitality projects?⊛
Yes. The Nesso specifies well for boutique-hotel guest rooms, short-term rentals, restaurant service stations and multi-unit residential projects — one recognizable silhouette repeated across rooms creates a visual signature, and the molded shade holds up to housekeeping better than fabric or glass. We offer trade pricing on orders of 20 units and above, matched color-batch coordination for multi-fixture installations, and project scheduling for larger orders. Standard production lead time runs 4–6 weeks; larger coordinated orders 8–12 weeks. Send your project brief to support@stuberlighting.com.
From The Atelier
“Some shapes stop being of their decade and just become shapes. The dome is one of them. We didn't try to update it, and we didn't try to disguise it — we made it in seven colors and got out of the way.”
