A 1970s mushroom,
back on the ceiling.

A vintage stained-glass mushroom ceiling light in four colors — White, Orange, Brown, and Green — pulled directly from the design vocabulary that defined a decade of American interiors.

Profile

The mushroom-shaped ceiling light is having its second life. The shape was everywhere in 1970s American interiors — earth-toned glass, dome silhouettes, ceilings that felt warm and slightly amber. Then it went out of style for about thirty years. Then, around 2020, a generation that had grown up looking at their grandmothers' ceiling lights started buying them back. The mushroom is back, and it brought its colors with it.

The Lottie is built in that tradition. Stained glass dome, metal hardware, semi-flush profile that sits 5.9 inches off the ceiling — close enough to feel architectural, deep enough to read as a deliberate object rather than a disc. Four colors, each one chosen to fit a specific revival aesthetic: clean White for the transitional interiors that want the shape without the saturation; warm Orange for Y2K and 70s revival; deep Brown for earthy Cottagecore palettes; soft Green for botanical and sage-toned rooms.

Bulbs included. Built to UL safety standards. G9 socket means replaceable bulbs — swap in dimmable G9 LEDs for evening atmosphere control. Two sizes (9.8" and 13.8") for different room scales.

— The four colors —

Pick your decade

WHITE · CLEAN MUSHROOM

For transitional interiors and rooms where the shape should do the talking without the saturation. The most versatile choice — works in almost any home regardless of style direction. Picks up warm tones from incandescent or warm-LED bulbs to feel mid-century-amber when illuminated.

ORANGE · Y2K REVIVAL

The signal color of 2023-2025 maximalist revival. Pulls directly from 1970s amber-orange — the color a magazine spread would call "warm autumn." Pairs with cream walls, walnut wood furniture, and any Cottagecore palette where the ceiling fixture should anchor a warm color story.

BROWN · CARAMEL EARTH

Deep amber-brown, the color of strong tea and old leather. Reads earthy and grounded — the choice for rooms that lean into rich tones rather than fighting them. Particularly striking against off-white walls and walnut floors; reads like a piece of vintage Italian glass.

GREEN · SAGE MOSS

Muted sage rather than vivid grass green — the same restrained botanical that defines Cottagecore and modern country interiors. Pairs with white cabinetry, fresh herbs, and any room that wants a touch of the garden brought indoors.

— On the mushroom revival —

"Every decade dismisses the decade before it. Every third decade reclaims the second one back."

The 1970s mushroom ceiling light was the kind of fixture that defined a whole era of American interiors — earth-toned glass, dome silhouettes, the warm amber glow of incandescent bulbs through colored shades. It was everywhere from suburban tract homes to high-end apartments. By the 1990s, the country had moved on; mushroom lights ended up in basements and estate sales.

Then, around 2020, the shape came back. Y2K aesthetic blogs started photographing them. Cottagecore Instagram accounts started painting their kitchens to match. Maximalist interior designers started mixing them into rooms full of patterned wallpaper and vintage rugs. The mushroom ceiling light isn't ironic anymore — it's a deliberate stylistic choice for the rooms that want the warmth and the color back.

What makes the Lottie

01

Stained glass dome — colored not painted

The color comes from the glass itself, not from a painted or coated surface. Stained glass holds its color over decades without fading, peeling, or yellowing — and when illuminated from inside, the color reads more saturated and luminous than any painted finish could replicate. The handcraft tradition behind stained glass goes back centuries; the same process applied here in a 1970s mushroom silhouette.

02

G9 socket — replaceable bulbs, dim if you want

Unlike integrated LED fixtures, the Lottie uses standard G9 bulb sockets — meaning you can swap in dimmable G9 LEDs (sold at Home Depot, Lowe's, Amazon) for full evening atmosphere control with a compatible wall dimmer. The G9 base is also long-lived (15,000-25,000 hours per bulb) and inexpensive to replace when needed.

03

Semi-flush profile — 5.9 inches off the ceiling

Deep enough to read as a deliberate dome shape (not a disc), shallow enough to fit comfortably under 8-foot residential ceilings. The semi-flush profile is the canonical mushroom proportion — anything thinner reads modern, anything deeper reads like a pendant. 5.9 inches is the sweet spot for the mid-century mushroom silhouette.

04

Two sizes for different room scales

9.8" for small bedrooms, powder rooms, walk-in closets, and tight spaces where a deeper mushroom would feel crowded. 13.8" for standard bedrooms, kitchens, dining nooks, and any room where the fixture should anchor as the primary visual focal point on the ceiling.

— Where it lives —

Recommended spaces

Kitchen · Orange or Green · 13.8"

The signature application — a single Lottie centered over a kitchen island or breakfast nook. The Orange Lottie reads warm and welcoming above a white kitchen; the Green Lottie picks up colors from herb pots and botanical accents.

Bedroom · Brown or Orange · 9.8" or 13.8"

The warm-toned glass diffuses bulb light into the gentle amber glow that defines mid-century bedroom lighting. Brown reads particularly grounded over walnut bedroom furniture; Orange pairs beautifully with cream linens and patterned bedding.

Powder room · White or Green · 9.8"

The 9.8" small Lottie fits beautifully in powder rooms and guest bathrooms where the ceiling fixture should be both functional and decorative. Indoor dry locations only — not for direct-spray bathroom installations.

Hallway · mixed colors · 9.8" trio

Three small Lotties in different colors down a long hallway — the most playful Cottagecore/Maximalist application. Mix Orange + Brown + Green for warm autumn palette, or White + Green + Brown for botanical-leaning interiors.

Foyer · single statement · 13.8" White or Orange

The first ceiling fixture guests see when they enter. White reads classic and welcoming; Orange announces the home's commitment to vintage aesthetic from the moment the door opens.

Questions

Which color should I pick? +

White — choose if you want the mushroom shape but not the color statement. Works with any interior style, transitional, and ideal for resale-friendly homes.

Orange — choose if your home leans Y2K, 70s revival, or maximalist. Pairs beautifully with cream/beige walls, walnut wood furniture, and patterned textiles.

Brown — choose if your interior is grounded in earth tones, has dark wood floors, or follows Cottagecore-on-the-darker-side palettes (think English cottage, Italian villa).

Green — choose for botanical-leaning interiors, white-painted kitchens, or any room where sage and moss are part of the existing palette.

Can't decide? Order multiple — mixing two or three colors down a hallway or across an open-plan home reads more intentional than a single matching color throughout.

How is this different from the Astra flush mount? +

Different aesthetic, different application:

· The Astra is a 1.9-inch slim Modern flush mount with integrated LED and acrylic diffuser — Scandinavian minimalist, intended to nearly disappear against the ceiling.
· The Lottie is a 5.9-inch semi-flush Vintage Retro mushroom with stained glass and replaceable G9 bulbs — meant to read as a deliberate decorative object.

Choose Astra for: Modern apartments, low ceilings, minimalist interiors. Choose Lottie for: Cottagecore, Maximalist, Y2K revival, or any room where the ceiling fixture should be a visible color/shape statement rather than a quiet utility light.

Are bulbs included? Can I dim it? +

Yes — G9 warm-white LED bulbs are included (2700K, non-dimmable standard). Plug into ceiling wiring, switch on, done.

For dimming: replace the included bulbs with dimmable G9 LED bulbs (widely available at Home Depot, Lowe's, Amazon for around $8-15 each) and pair with a compatible wall dimmer switch. Most modern dimmer switches work with G9 LEDs without specialty controls.

Will the stained glass color fade over time? +

No — stained glass holds its color essentially indefinitely. Unlike painted finishes (which can yellow, peel, or chip over years) or dyed plastic (which photo-degrades from UV exposure), stained glass embeds the pigment directly into the molten glass during manufacturing. The color is part of the material structure itself.

This is why 19th-century stained-glass church windows still display vivid colors 150 years later. Your Lottie's color will outlive several home repaints.

How do I clean the glass shade? +

Turn off the power at the wall switch first, let the bulbs cool completely (G9 bulbs run warm), then carefully wipe the glass with a soft microfiber cloth dampened with diluted glass cleaner or warm soapy water. Dry with a second clean microfiber cloth to avoid water spots.

Avoid: Abrasive sponges (can scratch the glass surface over time), ammonia-based cleaners on the metal hardware (can damage the finish), high-pressure water (don't spray directly).

Monthly dust removal with a soft duster is usually sufficient — full glass cleaning every 6-12 months keeps the colors looking vivid and the illumination bright.

Can I mix colors across multiple rooms? +

Yes — and many of our customers do. Common multi-room palettes:

· Warm autumn: Orange in kitchen + Brown in dining + White in living room
· Botanical Cottagecore: Green in kitchen + White in bathroom + Brown in bedroom
· Y2K maximalist: Orange in kitchen + Green in hallway + Orange in second bath

For multi-color orders, email service@stuberlighting.com with your room mix — we coordinate matched-batch glass tone to ensure visual consistency across fixtures of the same color when ordered together.

— A note from us —

Each Lottie's stained glass shade has subtle variations in color saturation and surface texture — these are inherent qualities of the handcraft stained glass process, not manufacturing flaws. Two Lotties of the same color will share the same overall tone but may differ slightly in surface variation; this is what stained glass is.

For multi-color or multi-room orders, email service@stuberlighting.com — we coordinate matched-batch glass for consistent tone within the same color across multiple fixtures.

Safety tested for indoor use in dry locations. Built to meet UL, ETL, CE, and SAA electrical safety standards for residential lighting installations.
