MURANO GLASS · N°09 · PENDANT

Petal-shaped glass,
brass-gold suspension.

Vertically curved, hand-textured glass panels forming a sculptural petal-like silhouette — suspended from a slim brass-toned rod. Available in olive green, clear, or ocean blue. Small enough for kitchen-island installations of three or five in a row; single enough to work alone above a small dining table, a bedside, or a considered entryway. Bulbs included.

Single edition · 3 tones · 11.8" diameter

I · The form

Petals, not spheres.

Most small pendants adopt one of two forms — a round globe or a cylindrical drum shade. The Livia does neither. It's built from vertically curved, hand-textured glass panels that meet at the top and bottom of the fixture, forming a sculptural petal-like silhouette — closer in visual language to a botanical bud than to a lighting fixture.

This changes how the pendant reads in the room. Round globes and drum shades close the light source into a smooth surface — they diffuse but don't articulate. Curved petal panels do both: they diffuse the bulb into a soft ambient wash, but the textured surface catches light differently at each curve, giving the fixture visual depth and movement that flat-surfaced pendants can't produce. From a kitchen counter looking up, or from a dining table across the room, the Livia reads as a small piece of sculpture that also happens to be a light.

II · The tones

Three tones, three moods.

Green — olive

Nature-inspired

Translucent olive green — the tone of Mediterranean olive groves rather than lawn-green. Reads as considered warmth in kitchens with warm wood cabinetry, in vintage-modern dining rooms, and in interiors that want a moment of botanical colour without a full commitment.

Clear — crystal

The versatile choice

Translucent clear glass with subtle warmth from the textured surface. Reads as sculptural rather than decorative — the fixture is present but never the room's colour statement. The correct choice for interiors that want the petal form without adding tinted glass to the palette.

Blue — ocean

Editorial modern

Deep translucent ocean blue — architectural rather than sky-blue. Reads as considered contrast in white or neutral kitchens, in coastal-modern homes that want to avoid beach-house clichés, and in editorial-styled interiors where the pendant is chosen as a colour anchor.

III · The kitchen use

Alone, or in a row.

The Livia is deliberately sized for the way kitchen-island pendants actually get specified — small enough to work in multiples above a counter, substantial enough to hold its own alone. Standard installation over a kitchen island in most American homes uses two or three pendants for a 6-foot island, three or five pendants for an 8- to 10-foot island. Two pendants of the Livia read as a considered pair; three read as a rhythmic row; five (for a long island) read as a colonnade.

For non-kitchen installations, the Livia works equally well as a single pendant. Over an intimate dining table (4-seater or smaller), above a bedside table as a hanging alternative to a table lamp, in a small entry foyer, or over a compact writing desk — the 11.8-inch diameter is calibrated to feel present without dominating a smaller room.

IV · The scale

Small pendant, considered proportion.

The Livia is produced in a single size — 11.8 inches in diameter, 11.8 inches in height. The proportion is deliberate: substantial enough to read as intentional in a room, small enough to install in multiples above a kitchen island without over-scaling. Standard 11.8-inch adjustable drop rod; extendable on request for higher ceilings or double-height installations.

Livia 11.8"⌀ × 11.8"H · 11.8" adjustable rod
Kitchen use 2-3 pendants for 6' island · 3-5 for 8-10' island
Non-kitchen use Single above intimate dining · bedside · small foyer · compact desk
Not suited to Grand foyers · high-ceilinged living rooms as sole fixture

For multi-pendant kitchen-island orders (3 or more units), coordinated matched-batch glass ensures the individual variations across pendants read as harmonious rather than mismatched. Write to service@stuberlighting.com with your order — matched-batch coordination is complimentary for orders of 3 or more units.

V · The craft

Considered, throughout.

Bulbs included.

The Livia ships with an E12 warm-white LED bulb. 2700K warm-white is chosen deliberately: it's the temperature that reads olive green as warm-Mediterranean rather than cool-clinical, blue as depth rather than flat, clear glass as sculptural rather than utilitarian. Dimmable-compatible if you swap to dimmable E12 LEDs and pair with a triac wall dimmer — Edison-style bulbs are also compatible for a warmer, more vintage-industrial reading in kitchen installations.

Brass-toned rod, not chain.

A slim brass-toned rigid rod rather than the swagged chain that most small pendants use. The rigid rod reads more refined in modern kitchens and dining rooms — the fixture hangs deliberately at its specified height rather than swinging on chain. Rod is finished in warm brass-gold to complement the natural warmth of the glass and to work alongside brass kitchen hardware.

Adjustable rod length.

Standard 11.8-inch drop rod. Custom lengths available at no extra charge for kitchen-island installations with high ceilings, double-height dining rooms, or specific hanging-height requirements. Write to service@stuberlighting.com before ordering with your ceiling-to-counter (or ceiling-to-table) measurement and desired hanging height.

Individual variation.

Each glass panel is hand-blown, one at a time — subtle variations in curve, thickness, texture, and colour intensity remain by design. Your Livia will be subtly different from photographs and from every other Livia produced. For multi-pendant kitchen-island orders, coordinated matched-batch material is complimentary — write to service@stuberlighting.com before ordering.

VI · Where it belongs

The everyday-considered pendant.

A kitchen island — this is the Livia's most obvious home. Two, three, or five pendants (depending on island length) hung above a marble or wood countertop, brass rod matching brass cabinet hardware. Olive green is the confident choice for warm-wood kitchens; clear for white or neutral kitchens; ocean blue for coastal-modern or editorial white-kitchen palettes.

A small dining table — a single Livia over a 4-seater dining table reads more intimate than a chandelier, more considered than a drum-shade pendant. Particularly effective in vintage-modern dining rooms with walnut furniture, brass accents, and warm-white walls.

A bedside — the Livia works as a hanging pendant alternative to a bedside table lamp, particularly in primary bedrooms where the nightstand real estate is precious. A pair of Livia pendants, one on each side of the bed, reads as considered as a matched pair of sconces but with more visual presence.

A hospitality installation — small pendant lights get specified in hospitality projects almost more than any other fixture category: restaurant private-dining rooms, café counters, boutique-hotel bar counters, wine bars. The Livia is designed for exactly this specification — small, sculptural, colour-selectable, multi-pendant coordinable.

VIII · Questions

Green, clear, or blue — which for my kitchen?

Olive green is correct for kitchens with warm-wood cabinetry (walnut, oak, cherry), brass hardware, cream or off-white walls, and warm-neutral countertops. The green reads as considered warmth — nature-inspired but not literally botanical. Clear is correct for kitchens that don't want tinted glass in the palette — pure-white kitchens, marble-heavy palettes, all-neutral schemes, or kitchens where the pendant needs to be sculptural rather than colour-forward. Ocean blue is correct for coastal-modern kitchens, cool-toned white kitchens with brushed nickel or matte black hardware, and editorial-styled kitchens where the pendant is chosen as a colour anchor. If your kitchen is genuinely neutral and you can't decide, clear is the safest — it will read considered regardless of countertop or cabinet colour.

How many pendants for my kitchen island?

Rule of thumb by island length: 4-6' island → 2 pendants · 6-8' island → 2-3 pendants · 8-10' island → 3-4 pendants · 10-12' island → 4-5 pendants. Spacing: pendants should be spaced 24-30 inches apart on centre, with 6-12 inches of clearance from each end of the island. Hanging height: the bottom of each pendant should hang 30-36 inches above the counter surface. Adjust the rod length before installation. For 3+ pendant orders, matched-batch coordinated glass is complimentary — write to service@stuberlighting.com with your order to ensure the individual variations across pendants read as harmonious.

Is the glass genuinely Murano?

The Livia is produced using Murano-tradition technique — hand-blown, batch-coloured glass, hand-shaped into curved petal panels, one at a time. We are transparent about the distinction in fine residential lighting between certified-Murano (from designated Italian houses, priced at $2,000+ per small pendant) and Murano-technique pieces (produced in equally qualified glassblowing studios). The Livia is the latter — true hand-blown art glass in the Italian tradition, faithful to the petal-panel aesthetic, accessibly priced. If certification is critical for your commercial or institutional application, we recommend purchasing from a certified Murano house directly.

Rod extension for a high ceiling?

Yes — the standard 11.8-inch rod is adjustable, and custom longer rod lengths are available at no extra charge for reasonable extensions. Particularly common for kitchen-island installations in homes with 10-foot or taller ceilings, and for double-height loft spaces. Write to service@stuberlighting.com before ordering with your ceiling-to-counter (or ceiling-to-floor) measurement and your desired hanging height for the pendant. For a kitchen island, the bottom of the pendant should hang 30-36 inches above the counter surface.

Can I dim it?

Yes — strongly recommended for kitchen-island installations. The included E12 LED bulb is non-dimmable warm-white. To enable dimming: replace with a dimmable E12 LED bulb (widely available, $8-15 each) and wire through a compatible triac wall dimmer. For kitchens, dimming lets the pendants function both as bright task lighting during cooking and as atmospheric ambient light during evening dining — the same fixture serves two different roles. For multi-pendant installations, wire all pendants to the same dimmer circuit for coordinated brightness.

Hospitality-scale orders?

Yes — the Livia is designed for both residential and hospitality-scale specification. Small pendant lights get specified more than almost any other fixture category in hospitality projects: café counters, restaurant private-dining rooms, wine bars, boutique-hotel bar counters, cocktail bars. Coordinated matched-batch glass, extended lead times for larger orders, custom colour specification (beyond green/clear/blue), and interior-designer trade pricing are all available. Write to service@stuberlighting.com with your project brief — installation count, timeline, and any custom specification.

"Small pendants get specified more than almost any other fixture in kitchens and dining rooms — and are more often disappointing than any other category. Our answer was to make the small pendant a piece of sculpture rather than a compromise: curved textured petal panels rather than a smooth globe, brass rod rather than swagged chain, three considered tones rather than one safe default."
