LEGNO.

A tripod. A burl. A pleated shade.

The Legno Table Lamp is drawn from the Mid-Century Modern accent-lamp vernacular — a cylindrical burl wood base (the swirled and knotted growth-pattern wood that formed on the trunk of a tree that was under stress for years), suspended on three sleek black metal tripod legs, topped with a warm beige pleated linen shade. It's the console table lamp that looks like it walked out of a 1965 California ranch house — deliberately, considered, warmly-nostalgic. Ships bulb pre-fitted. Plug in, tap the inline switch, done.

On burl wood

Every tree grows a burl differently.

A burl is what forms on a tree that spent years under stress — from injury, from fungal infection, from environmental hardship. The tree responds by producing dormant buds that grow into an irregular twisted mass of interlocking grain. It takes decades. It doesn't happen the same way twice. The wood that comes from it — burl wood — is prized in furniture-making for exactly this reason: no two burls produce the same grain pattern, the same swirl density, the same colour depth. Every piece is one of a kind by definition.

The cylindrical base of your Legno is turned from a single piece of burl wood, sealed with light natural wood conditioner to preserve the grain visible on the surface. What you receive will not look identical to the reference photograph — the swirl density will vary, the colour intensity will vary, the knot positions will vary. This is not manufacturing inconsistency. This is the material behaving the way the material behaves. Two Legno lamps placed side by side on a matched console pair will read as an intentional matched-craft set, not as an accidental mismatch.

Suspended on three sleek black powder-coated metal tripod legs — the geometric architectural counterpoint to the organic wood — and topped with a warm beige pleated linen shade that diffuses the E14 warm-white bulb light in soft even ambient character. Three elements. Three surfaces. Three registers. Together they read as considered Mid-Century Modern accent, correctly for consoles, bedsides, sofa side tables, dressing vanities, and reading corners.

Three signatures

The three moves that make it Mid-Century Modern.

01

The base

Burl wood cylinder.

Turned from a single piece of natural burl wood — the swirled and knotted growth-pattern wood from a stressed tree. Grain visible on all surfaces. Each cylinder base is one of a kind by definition — no two Legno lamps show identical grain patterns.

02

The support

Black metal tripod.

Three sleek powder-coated black metal legs splayed outward at a Mid-Century Modern angle — the geometric architectural counterpoint to the organic burl wood above. Stable footprint, minimalist mechanics, characteristic MCM Danish-influenced silhouette.

03

The shade

Pleated beige linen.

Radial vertical pleating in warm beige linen — the fabric surface that catches downward E14 warm-white bulb light in soft even ambient character. The pleat detail adds vertical rhythm to the silhouette and creates subtle shadow lines that emphasise the shade's tapered form.

Where the Legno lives

Six places it belongs.

01

Entryway consoles.

The Legno's primary application. A single Legno on a hallway console beside a bowl for keys signals sophisticated Mid-Century Modern interior register from the moment guests enter. Warm evening glow through the pleated shade reads as considered welcome. Pair matched two for symmetrical foyer consoles.

02

Bedside nightstands.

15.7" diameter footprint sits comfortably on standard bedside nightstands with room for phone, water glass, book. Warm evening glow bright enough for pre-sleep reading, warm enough to soften the room for sleep. Matched pair as coordinated bedside set works particularly beautifully.

03

Sofa side tables.

On a side table next to a sofa or reading chair — provides warm reading ambient in the corner of a living room without dominating. The burl wood + tripod + pleated shade combination reads as considered accent that adds sophistication rather than fighting for attention.

04

Dressing vanities.

Beside the mirror on morning-routine dressing tables and bedroom vanities. The warm beige pleated shade catches light in a register that flatters skin tones — particularly correct for makeup application and hair styling in evening light.

05

Home office desks.

Corner accent on a home office desk or writer's desk — the burl wood grain adds visual warmth to a workspace typically dominated by monitor blue-light. Warm E14 evening glow supports late-afternoon and evening work sessions.

06

Boutique hospitality.

Boutique-hotel guest room bedsides, Airbnb-styled short-term rentals, and MCM-heritage residential projects where the Legno reads as considered upscale interior specification. Trade programs and matched-batch pair coordination available at no extra charge.

Before you buy

Questions.

Will my Legno look exactly like the reference photo?

No — and that's the point. The burl wood cylinder base is turned from a single piece of natural burl wood, which by definition shows unique swirl patterns, grain density, colour intensity, and knot positions. Two Legno lamps will not look identical; a single Legno will not look identical to the reference photograph. This is inherent to the material — burl wood forms differently on every tree, and no two burls produce the same visual signature. What you receive will be a Legno-family lamp with its own unique burl wood personality. If this variation would bother you, the Legno may not be the correct choice; if you appreciate handmade natural materials, it's exactly what you want.

About the included bulb — and can I upgrade?

Bulb included. Every Legno ships with a standard non-dimmable warm-white LED bulb pre-fitted in the E14 socket, calibrated to 2700K for correct warm-glow character through the beige pleated linen shade. Plug it in, tap the inline switch, done. If you want to upgrade: the socket accepts any standard E14 bulb. For dimming, swap in a dimmable warm-white LED. For vintage MCM character, an E14 small-form Edison filament bulb provides amber warm tones that pair particularly beautifully with the burl wood and pleated shade palette. Widely available at Home Depot, IKEA, Amazon. Maximum 40W.

Can I buy two for a matched pair on twin bedsides or console?

Yes — matched Legno pairs on symmetrical bedsides and foyer consoles are one of the fixture's most-loved applications. Because each Legno base is turned from a unique piece of burl wood, individual units will show subtly different grain patterns. This natural variation reads as considered handmade craft pair rather than manufacturing defect — most customers find the paired-but-not-identical character adds interest. If you require particularly close matching between two units, request "matched-batch pair" in the order notes at checkout or email support@stuberlighting.com before placing the order — we'll pull both units from the same production batch and select for closest grain-pattern similarity. No additional charge.

Can I dim it?

Yes with the correct combination. The pre-fitted bulb is non-dimmable, and the inline switch on the cord operates as on/off only. For dimming, swap the included bulb for a dimmable E14 warm-white LED (widely available; check package for "dimmable" label), and plug the lamp into a wall outlet controlled by a triac-compatible wall dimmer (Lutron Diva and Caseta triac dimmers are known LED-compatible). At 30-50% brightness the pleated linen shade catches light at its most atmospheric register — particularly correct for evening ambient and pre-sleep bedside use.

Is 40W bright enough for reading?

For bedside and side-table use, yes — the Legno is calibrated as an atmospheric warm accent lamp rather than a task lamp for extended detailed reading. The included warm-white LED (equivalent to 40W incandescent) provides enough light for comfortable bedtime reading of most standard-print books when the lamp sits at correct distance (12-24" from your reading material). For extended detailed task reading, small-print books, or paper work sessions, we recommend supplementing with a dedicated task lamp. The Legno's purpose is warm ambient character and MCM accent presence — not overhead-quality task illumination.

How do I clean and maintain it?

Burl wood base: wipe with soft dry microfibre cloth for regular dust; for stubborn marks, slightly damp microfibre with mild dish soap solution then dry immediately. Every 6-12 months, treat with a light wood conditioner or beeswax to preserve the natural grain and prevent drying — burl wood is more porous than plain hardwood and benefits from periodic feeding. Avoid ammonia cleaners, harsh solvents, or prolonged direct sunlight exposure (may fade the swirl patterns over time). Pleated linen shade: gently vacuum with a fabric-brush attachment on lowest suction setting to remove dust between the pleats every 3-6 months. For spot marks, gentle spot-clean with dry-cleaning solvent applied via clean white cloth, blotted gently — do not rub, and never machine-wash or soak in water. Metal tripod legs: wipe with damp microfibre; avoid abrasive scouring pads which will damage the black powder-coating.

Do I have to assemble it?

Minor assembly only. The Legno ships with the burl wood base and tripod legs pre-attached, and the pleated shade wrapped separately for compact shipping. The shade attaches to a small metal harp assembly at the top of the base via a screw-on finial — 5-10 minutes with your hands. No tools required beyond finger-tightening the finial. Take care to attach the shade level and centred on the harp to avoid a slight tilt or shade wobble on first assembly. Instructions included.

Is the burl wood real solid wood or veneer?

Solid burl wood. The cylindrical Legno base is turned from a single piece of natural burl wood — not veneered over an engineered core. This is why the grain, colour, and swirl pattern are visible on all surfaces (top, sides, bottom) rather than only the outer face. Solid burl wood is heavier than veneer-over-composite alternatives and shows the same grain characteristics from every angle — the Legno feels substantial in the hand and reads as authentic craft object rather than pressed-composite lookalike.

Trade programs and MCM residential projects?

Yes — the Legno is a specified fixture for boutique-hotel guest room bedsides, Airbnb-styled short-term rentals, MCM-heritage residential renovations, and multi-unit residential projects where the Mid-Century Modern register reads as considered upscale interior specification. Matched-batch pair coordination available for symmetrical foyer console and bedside installations at no extra charge. Trade programs, project management for larger orders, and bulk pricing for orders of 20+ units. Production lead times run 4-6 weeks. Write to support@stuberlighting.com with your project brief.

A note from the atelier

"The Legno is our tribute to the Mid-Century Modern accent-lamp vernacular — the small tripod-based side-table lamp that carried so much California ranch house and Danish modernist interior work through the 1960s. Three moves: burl wood turned into a cylinder, three sleek metal legs holding it up, a pleated beige linen shade catching the warm E14 glow. Each burl wood cylinder is unique — nothing else looks like the one you'll receive. That's the point."
