The Laguna is Stuberlighting's tribute to the iconic FUN DM (Disc Multi-tier) — Verner Panton's 1964 FUN series variant featuring flat horizontal tiered geometry, originally produced by Louis Poulsen and now manufactured under license by &Tradition. The Laguna is not an authentic FUN DM product; it's an independently manufactured homage scaled for residential mainstream applications.

When Verner Panton designed the FUN DM variant in 1964, he was solving a specific spatial problem: how to deliver the FUN cluster's pearl-iridescent magic in rooms where vertical drop wasn't ideal. Dining rooms with 9-foot ceilings can't accommodate a 30-inch-tall vertical FUN cluster — the bottom of the fixture would enter diner sightlines. The DM (Disc Multi-tier) variant solved this by flattening the cluster into horizontal layers: the shells still cascade outward, but the geometry spreads sideways instead of dropping down, keeping the entire fixture in the upper third of the room volume.

The Laguna translates that FUN DM logic into real Capiz shell at 5 different sizes — covering the full range from 22-inch small accent (kitchen island pair, small breakfast nook) through 47-inch grand statement (large dining room, vaulted living room, mansion foyer). The same Filipino artisans who supply our other Capiz family fixtures polish each shell disc and string them into the flat multi-tier geometry the FUN DM structure requires. A stainless steel armature (Chrome or Gold-electroplated) holds the tiered structure overhead; multiple E26/E27 sockets illuminate the shells from within.

Bulbs included. Built to UL safety standards. Five sizes (22.4", 27.6", 31.5", 39.3", 47.2") covering most residential applications from accent to mansion. Gold finish matches our other Capiz family fixtures for coordinated multi-room installations; Chrome finish reads cleaner-modern and pairs particularly well with contemporary Mid-Century-Coastal interiors.

FUN DM flat multi-tier geometry · horizontal cascade

The defining feature distinguishing the Laguna from our other FUN-tribute fixtures. While the Sirena uses concentric cluster geometry (spherical cascade) and the Aurelia uses vertical waterfall geometry (deep drop), the Laguna uses flat multi-tier geometry (horizontal spread). Diameter substantially greater than height. Designed specifically for rooms with standard residential ceiling height where vertical drop would feel oppressive.

Real natural Capiz shell · same Filipino supply chain

Each shell disc is real natural Capiz from Filipino artisans — windowpane oyster (Placuna placenta) polished by hand and threaded into the flat multi-tier cluster geometry. Same authentic shell source as our Coraline, Marina, Serena, Sirena, and Aurelia. The natural variation between shells is inherent to the material — not a defect.

Stainless steel armature · Chrome or Gold

The structural rings holding the multi-tier shell cluster are electroplated stainless steel. Chrome reads polished Mid-Century modern, pairs with white walls and minimalist contemporary interiors. Gold reads warmer and matches the gold frames of our other Capiz family fixtures (Coraline / Marina / Serena / Sirena) for coordinated multi-room installations.

Multi-bulb E26/E27 · dimmable compatible

Multiple E26/E27 sockets distributed through the tiered structure deliver enough light output to fill standard residential rooms. Bulbs included. Standard 59-inch cable; custom length available on request. For atmosphere control, replace with dimmable E26 LEDs and wire through a triac wall dimmer — at 30-40% brightness the shells transition from illuminating to glowing, which is the canonical FUN-style residential effect.

The flat multi-tier geometry stays in the upper third of the room volume — diners can see across the table without the chandelier entering their sightlines. The amber pearl-iridescent shells cast warm shadows on the table surface during dinner.

Large dining room · 39.3" or 47.2" · 10-12 person table

For dining tables seating 10+ guests, the 39.3" or 47.2" Laguna provides both architectural presence and adequate task lighting. The flat horizontal geometry distributes light evenly across the table length rather than concentrating it directly underneath. Hang 36-40 inches above the table surface for proper Diner-eye-level clearance.

Kitchen island · 22.4" Gold · pair or trio installation

For kitchen islands 8-10 feet long, two or three 22.4" Laguna pendants installed at 30-32" above the countertop create a coordinated Coastal-Mid-Century kitchen lighting setup. Particularly effective in walnut-white kitchens where the Capiz shell adds the third material element alongside wood and stone.

For Mid-Century-meets-Coastal living rooms, a 27.6" or 31.5" Laguna centered over a low-profile coffee table or seating area anchors the room with deliberate design vocabulary. For coastal home foyers with vaulted (but not two-story) ceilings, the 39.3" or 47.2" Laguna delivers grand-statement presence without the vertical drop of the Aurelia. No — the Laguna is a design tribute to the iconic FUN DM, not an authentic &Tradition product.

The authentic FUN DM (Disc Multi-tier) is a Mid-Century pendant designed by Verner Panton in 1964 as part of the FUN series, originally for Louis Poulsen and now produced under license by &Tradition. The authentic article carries full design provenance, manufacturer markings, and museum-grade construction.

The Laguna is independently manufactured by Stuberlighting as a tribute to the silhouette, using real Capiz shell. It is not a licensed reproduction. If you want the authentic article, we recommend purchasing directly from &Tradition or an authorized dealer.

If you want the FUN DM flat multi-tier geometry in real Capiz shell at a fraction of the original's pricing — the Laguna is built for that purpose.

Sirena, Laguna, or Aurelia — which FUN-style fixture do I choose? +

Three FUN-tribute fixtures, three different geometric solutions for three different applications:

· Sirena (cluster sphere · 11-20.9"⌀) — Small to medium pendant, compact cluster geometry. For accent applications, smaller dining rooms, foyers in townhomes, kitchen islands. Both diameter and height in roughly equal proportions.

· Laguna (flat multi-tier · 22.4-47.2"⌀) — Medium to large suspension lamp/chandelier, horizontal spread geometry. For standard residential dining rooms, kitchen islands, living rooms, foyers with normal ceiling height. Diameter substantially greater than height.

· Aurelia (vertical cascade · 39.4"⌀ × 43-79"H) — Grand statement chandelier, vertical waterfall geometry. For two-story foyers, grand staircases, mansion-scale applications. Height substantially greater than diameter.

Quick rule: Standard 9-ft ceiling → Laguna. Compact accent → Sirena. Two-story foyer or 18+ft ceiling → Aurelia.

By dining table:
· 4-6 person table → 22.4" or 27.6"
· 6-8 person table → 27.6" or 31.5"

By room sizing (length + width in feet = ideal diameter in inches):

Kitchen islands: Use multiple smaller pendants (22.4" × 2 or 3) at 30-32" above counter rather than one large pendant.

Hang the bottom of the fixture 30-36 inches above dining table surface. With Laguna's flat geometry, the entire fixture stays in the upper third of the room — no risk of entering seated diner sightlines.

Chrome or Gold — which finish? +

Gold — warm gold-electroplated finish, matches our other Capiz family fixtures exactly (Coraline / Marina / Serena / Sirena) for coordinated multi-room installations. Pairs with brass hardware, walnut wood, terracotta tile, traditional Mid-Century-meets-Coastal palettes. The default choice if you want warmth or plan to mix with other Capiz family fixtures.

Chrome — polished silver finish, reads cooler and more contemporary. Pairs particularly well with white walls, natural linen, minimalist Mid-Century vocabulary, and Coastal interiors leaning Modern rather than traditional. The default choice if your interior leans cooler-Modern.

Most ordered: Gold. It matches the rest of the Capiz family and reads warmer in residential spaces.

How long does assembly take? +

Several hours of careful assembly — patience required.

The Laguna ships in custom packaging with the multi-tier armature and shell strands separated to prevent shipping damage. Final assembly happens during installation at your home.

Assembly time by size:
· 22.4" → 1-2 hours
· 27.6" → 2-3 hours
· 31.5" → 3-4 hours
· 39.3" → 4-5 hours
· 47.2" → 5-6 hours

Most of the assembly time is hanging individual shell discs onto the multi-tier armature — there are hundreds of small discs to position. This is best done by a licensed electrician with chandelier-installation experience, ideally with one helper for the larger sizes. We provide detailed step-by-step instructions.

If shells arrive chipped or damaged during shipping, email us with photos within 7 days of delivery and we'll send replacement shells at no charge. Most orders ship with a few extra shells for in-installation replacement.

Can I dim the Laguna? +

Yes — bulb-and-switch compatible.

The fixture itself is dimmable-compatible. To enable dimming: replace the included bulbs with dimmable E26 LED bulbs (widely available for $8-15 each — you'll need multiple depending on size) and wire the installation through a compatible triac wall dimmer.

Dimming is strongly recommended for dining room applications — at full brightness with multiple bulbs, the Laguna delivers task-lighting intensity. Dimmed to 30-40%, the shells transition from illuminating to glowing — the canonical FUN-style residential atmosphere effect.
