GINKGO SERIES · N°01 · CEILING

Porcelain leaves,
held by golden branches.

Individually handcrafted ceramic ginkgo leaves arranged along polished-gold metal branches — a botanical semi-flush ceiling fixture that reads as neither modern nor traditional, but as the specific mid-century Art Deco register that used natural forms as design vocabulary. Four sizes from an intimate 14.2 inches to a statement 24.4 inches. Two to six G9 sparkling bulbs depending on scale. The ginkgo tree is one of the oldest surviving species on Earth; the fixture inspired by its leaves holds its own long historical line.

4 sizes · up to 24.4" · Hand-glazed porcelain · Gold & white

The ginkgo is the oldest botanical form still growing on Earth. This fixture is our answer to it.

Ginkgo biloba has been growing continuously for over 200 million years — the sole surviving species of an entire botanical order. Its leaves have the same fan silhouette they had when dinosaurs walked past them; the mid-century designers who reintroduced the ginkgo form to residential decorative arts weren't inventing a motif, they were reaching back to something already ancient. The Gingko Ceiling Lamp is in that same lineage. Individually handcrafted porcelain leaves are shaped, glazed, and mounted along polished-gold metal branches to produce a fixture that reads as botanical sculpture during the day and as sparkling constellation at night when its G9 bulbs illuminate the ceramic surfaces from below.

This is the fixture that belongs in rooms where the ceiling is meant to hold visual weight — where a flat drum shade or a subtle silk cloud would defer too much to the room's other decor. Instead, the ginkgo branches read as the room's centre of attention, at ceiling height, without dropping into vertical space.

Craft 01

Individually shaped porcelain.

Each ginkgo leaf is individually hand-shaped from porcelain clay. No mould-pressed uniformity — the leaves carry the subtle variations that hand-shaping produces, so no two leaves on the fixture look mechanically identical. This is the tradition's signature.

Craft 02

Hand-glazed to gloss.

After the porcelain is fired, each leaf receives multiple applications of hand-brushed glaze that produces the consistent glossy white finish across the whole fixture. Achieving matte-to-gloss transition uniformly requires care and patience — it's why the fixture's finish reads as considered craftsmanship rather than as production coating.

Craft 03

Gold branches, polished.

The metal branches are polished-gold finished, arranged in an organic tree-branch structure that supports both the porcelain leaves and the G9 bulb sockets. Gold is the classical mid-century-Art-Deco choice; pairs particularly well with the warm white of the porcelain.

Rooms

Where the Gingko belongs.

Mid-century modern dining rooms.

Medium above 4-6-seat tables; Large above 6-8-seat; XL above oversized. The ginkgo silhouette reads as the botanical mid-century vocabulary the room already speaks — pairs with walnut tables, brass hardware, restrained-palette upholstery. Semi-flush profile means eye-lines across the table are preserved.

Bedrooms with wallpaper or botanical accents.

The Gingko is one of the few fixtures that actively enhances rooms with botanical wallpaper, floral bedding, or plant-heavy decor — the ginkgo reads as part of the botanical language rather than as competing decoration. Small in standard bedrooms; Medium in primary bedrooms.

Statement foyers & entry halls.

Large or XL, centred over the entry. The gold branches catch light from the front door; the porcelain leaves read as considered welcome. This is the fixture for entries meant to signal quality without needing a chandelier.

Hospitality & boutique commercial.

XL in hotel lobbies, restaurant flagship rooms, boutique showrooms, and hospitality projects specifying botanical mid-century as a design principle. Statement fixture at semi-flush scale — architectural presence without pendant vertical intrusion.

Questions

Which size for my room?

14.2" — small bedrooms, powder rooms, hallways, entry corridors. Standard 8-ft ceilings; the compact ginkgo branch reads as sculptural without commanding scale. 16.5" — the residential proportional default: standard bedrooms, 4-6-seat dining rooms, average living rooms. This is the safe residential choice. 20.5" — primary bedrooms with king beds, 6-8-seat dining rooms, generous living rooms, statement foyers. The fixture reads as the room's design conversation. 24.4" — double-height foyers, oversized dining rooms (8+ seats), hotel lobbies, showroom applications. Botanical statement at architectural scale.

Is installation difficult?

Honestly: yes, more than most ceiling fixtures. The ginkgo leaves ship packed separately from the branches for safe transit — they attach one by one at installation, which adds 30-45 minutes to the process beyond the wiring itself. We strongly recommend a licensed electrician for the full install, particularly if you're replacing an existing fixture that requires wall-switch or box modifications. Once installed, the fixture is stable and requires no further adjustment. If you prefer a simpler install profile, our silk-shade ceiling fixtures (Nimbus, Fiora) mount as single-piece assemblies.

Why G9 bulbs specifically?

G9 bulbs are compact — the socket and bulb combined take approximately the space of a large marble. This matters for the Gingko because the bulbs sit within the ginkgo branch structure and need to be small enough not to visually compete with the porcelain leaves. G9 bulbs also produce sparkling point-source illumination that reads as constellation-like when the fixture is lit; this is intentional and part of the mid-century Art Deco aesthetic the ginkgo tradition belongs to. If you'd prefer softer diffused light, a warm-white G9 LED with a frosted glass envelope (widely available) softens the sparkling character.

Can I dim it?

Yes — strongly recommended, especially for the larger sizes with 4-6 bulbs. The included G9 LED bulbs are non-dimmable warm-white. To enable dimming: replace all bulbs with dimmable G9 LEDs (widely available, $10-18 each) and install a compatible triac wall dimmer. At 40-60% brightness, the ginkgo branches read at their most atmospheric — the porcelain leaves catch light in a softer register, and the fixture becomes evening statement rather than bright task illumination. For dining rooms with 4+ bulbs, dimming is what unlocks the fixture's atmospheric range.

How do I clean the porcelain leaves?

The glazed porcelain is easier to clean than most lampshade materials. Dust each leaf with a soft dry microfibre cloth every 2-3 months; for accumulated residue, a lightly-damp cloth (water only, no cleaning products or ammonia) restores the glossy finish without damaging the glaze. The polished-gold metal branches can be wiped with a dry microfibre cloth. Avoid abrasive sponges or scrubbing pads, which will scratch the ceramic glaze. Individual leaves can be gently detached for deep cleaning if needed (labour-intensive but effective for kitchen-adjacent installations).

Are the leaves fragile?

The porcelain leaves are ceramic — they're durable enough for indoor decorative applications but can chip if impacted directly. This is why they ship packed separately from the branches: transit is the most common cause of ceramic damage. Once installed on the ceiling, the leaves are out of any impact range in normal residential use. If a leaf ever chips or breaks in service, replacement leaves are available — write to support@stuberlighting.com with your fixture SKU. Do not install in high-traffic areas at low ceilings (below 8 ft) where the fixture could be brushed against.

Hospitality-scale and commercial orders?

Yes — the XL Gingko is one of our specifications for boutique hospitality projects. Hotel lobbies, restaurant flagship rooms, boutique retail showrooms, coworking flagship spaces, and hospitality applications specifying botanical mid-century as design vocabulary. Multi-fixture cluster installations (staggered heights for large ceiling planes), matched-batch porcelain coordination, and interior-designer trade pricing available. Please note that installation takes longer per unit than for simpler fixtures — plan installation labour time accordingly. Write to support@stuberlighting.com with your project brief.
