MURANO GLASS · N°04 · IN BLOOM

A flower,
caught in glass.

The Calanthe takes the visual language of a blooming flower and renders it in Murano-tradition petal glass — twelve, sixteen, or twenty lights of hand-shaped petals arrayed around a polished gold frame. Available in four glass tones — pink, clear, green, amber — each catching warm light and casting it back into the room as colour as much as illumination.

3 sizes · 4 glass tones · 12 variations

Pink

Rosé · Soft sunset

Clear

Crystalline · Pure light

Green

Verdant · Garden tone

Amber

Honey · Warm whisky

— Petalled —

"Like a blooming flower in the sky."

Glass that opens.

Most chandeliers compose themselves from a single repeated unit — a teardrop, a sphere, a cylinder, multiplied. The Calanthe composes itself from petals. Each piece of glass is shaped — by hand, in the molten state — to curve like an opening flower; each tier of petals layers slightly larger than the one above, the way actual flowers layer outward as they bloom.

Seen from below, the effect is unmistakable. A ring of petals at the top, then a wider ring beneath it, then wider again. Light passes through the layers, catching the curve of each petal differently, casting soft coloured shadow across the ceiling and the surrounding walls. The chandelier appears to be in the act of opening rather than the act of hanging.

— Four shades —

Each colour catches light its own way.

Choose the season.

Pink — rosé glass

A soft sunset hue that warms the room without dominating it. Best in primary bedrooms, dressing rooms, and dining rooms that host candlelit dinners — the pink shifts to deeper rosé under warm bulbs, casting walls and ceilings into a barely-perceptible warm wash. Romantic without being literal about it.

Clear — crystalline glass

The most versatile of the four — pure crystalline Murano glass that takes on the temperature of whatever bulb sits behind it. Reads modern in a contemporary room, formal in a Hollywood Regency dining room, architectural in a foyer. Choose Clear for interiors where the petal form should be the statement, not the colour.

Green — verdant glass

A botanical sage-green hue that grounds rather than warms. Particularly effective in conservatory dining rooms, library studies, and interiors that already lean botanical (linen, wood, plants). The green reads as garden indoors — confident, restrained, deeply Italian Modern in lineage. The least-expected of the four colour choices and often the most-loved by owners.

Amber — honey glass

Deep honey-whisky amber, coloured at the molten stage with mineral oxides. Casts a strong warm-amber glow under warm bulbs — the temperature of a hotel bar at 9pm. Best in cocktail-leaning dining rooms, Art Deco-influenced spaces, and any room that wants its own atmospheric temperature regardless of the time of day outside.

— Three sizes —

Each substantial. Each scaled to a different room.

Scale carefully.

Small (12-Light) 26.4"⌀ × 11.4"H ≈35 lbs · 16kg 6-seat dining table · standard foyer · large bedroom
Medium (16-Light) 31.8"⌀ × 14.6"H ≈49 lbs · 22kg 8-10 seat dining · grand living room · 12-ft foyer
Large (20-Light) 35.4"⌀ × 17.7"H ≈68 lbs · 31kg 12+ seat dining · mansion foyer · grand statement

Important — installation weight

The Calanthe ranges from ≈35 lbs (Small) to ≈68 lbs (Large). Every size requires a heavy-duty ceiling junction box anchored to ceiling framing (joist or blocking) or to a concrete ceiling using heavy-duty expansion bolts — never to drywall alone. Flat ceilings only — not compatible with sloped ceilings. A licensed electrician with chandelier-installation experience is strongly recommended, particularly for the 20-Light Large.

What you should know before ordering.

Considered, throughout.

Bulbs included — main & accent.

Unlike most chandeliers in this category, the Calanthe ships with its complete bulb set included. Small: 12 × E12/E14 warm-white LED. Medium: 16 × E12/E14 + 4 × G4 accent bulbs at the center. Large: 20 × E12/E14 + 4 × G4 accent. The G4 accents activate the petal layers from within — concentrated points of warm light that turn each glass colour luminous. 2700K warm-white is chosen deliberately to preserve each colour's character; cool-white would flatten the petals. Dimmable-compatible if you swap to dimmable bulbs and a triac wall dimmer.

Polished gold — or nickel.

Polished gold is the default — warmer, more Art Deco / Hollywood Regency, pairs with brass hardware and warm wood. Polished nickel is available on every size for cooler-toned interiors and Modern French applications. Leave a note at checkout to switch finishes; we confirm before production.

Rigid rod — not chain.

Unlike chain-suspended chandeliers, the Calanthe hangs from a 19-inch rigid rod — the rod is structural and fixed, not flexible. This keeps the petal silhouette stable and reads more architectural than ornamental. Custom rod length available on request for vaulted or unusual ceilings.

Hand-blown variation.

Each petal is shaped by hand in the molten stage — subtle variations in curve, wall thickness, and colour intensity remain by design. Your Calanthe will be subtly different from photographs and from every other Calanthe produced. This is the signature of hand-made art glass; uniformity here would mean the production wasn't truly hand-blown.

— Placement —

Rooms that bloom.

Modern dining room — Medium (16-Light) Pink or Amber over a walnut Mid-Century dining table. The petal silhouette catches candlelight; the chosen colour tints the room's atmosphere. Particularly powerful at evening dinner gatherings.

Art Deco vignette — Large (20-Light) Amber in a fluted-velvet, lacquered, brass-cocktail-bar interior. The amber petals and polished gold frame complete the Art Deco vocabulary the room is already speaking.

Botanical conservatory or library study — Medium (16-Light) Green among linen, raw wood, plants. The verdant green reads as garden indoors; the petal form is the right botanical vocabulary for the room.

Hollywood Regency primary bedroom — Small (12-Light) Pink over the foot of the bed. Soft sunset glass tone, gold frame, petal silhouette — the language a Regency bedroom needs without the typical chandelier overstatement.

— Questions —

Which colour for my room?

Pink: primary bedrooms, dressing rooms, romantic dining rooms; warmth-leaning rooms; interiors with linen, velvet, walnut. Clear: the safe versatile choice; modern interiors, white-on-white rooms, foyers where the petal form should speak louder than the colour. Green: botanical conservatories, libraries, garden-inspired interiors, rooms with strong wood and plant elements; the most-unexpected and often most-loved choice. Amber: Art Deco interiors, cocktail-bar-leaning dining rooms, Hollywood Regency vignettes, rooms wanting their own warm atmosphere day or night. If unsure, Clear is the broadest-application choice; Pink is the most-romantic; Amber the most-statement.

Which size for my dining table?

By dining table: 4-6 seater → Small (12-Light 26.4") · 6-8 seater → Medium (16-Light 31.8") · 8-10 seater → Medium or Large depending on table width · 10-12+ seater → Large (20-Light 35.4"). Standard rule: chandelier diameter should be roughly half to two-thirds the dining table width. Hang the lowest petal 30–36 inches above the table surface. For foyer applications, the Large 20-Light at 35.4"⌀ is appropriate for grand single-storey foyers (12-ft ceilings); two-storey foyers benefit more from a chain-suspended chandelier with greater vertical drop — consider our Stella Murano Glass Teardrop instead for that application.

Is the weight really that heavy?

Yes — the Calanthe is substantial but manageable. The Small (12-Light) is ≈35 lbs (16kg), Medium (16-Light) ≈49 lbs (22kg), Large (20-Light) ≈68 lbs (31kg). For context: a standard residential ceiling junction box is rated for ~50 lbs maximum, sufficient for the Small with appropriate structural anchoring. The Medium and Large require heavy-duty ceiling boxes anchored directly to ceiling joist, added blocking, or concrete ceiling using heavy-duty expansion bolts — never to drywall alone. Flat ceilings only — not compatible with sloped ceilings. Always engage a licensed electrician with chandelier-installation experience.

Is the glass genuinely from Murano?

The Calanthe is produced using Murano-tradition technique — hand-blown, batch-coloured glass, hand-shaped one petal at a time. We are transparent about the distinction in fine residential lighting between certified-Murano (priced at $8,000+ per fixture from designated Italian houses) and Murano-technique pieces (produced in equally qualified glassblowing studios). The Calanthe is the latter — true hand-blown art glass in the Italian Murano lineage, faithful to the petal-form Murano aesthetic, accessibly priced. If certification is critical, we recommend purchasing from a certified Murano house directly.

What if a petal arrives broken?

Each petal is individually packaged and the complete fixture ships in heavy-duty packaging designed for hand-blown glass. Damage in transit is rare but not impossible. If a petal arrives broken, photograph the damage within 7 days of delivery and email service@stuberlighting.com with the order number — we ship replacement petals at no charge, typically arriving within 2-3 weeks. The Calanthe is engineered so individual petals can be replaced without removing the entire fixture; replacement guidance is included with the documentation.

Can I dim it?

Yes — strongly recommended, especially for the coloured glass tones (Pink, Green, Amber). The included E14 LED bulbs are non-dimmable. To enable dimming: replace with dimmable E14 LEDs (widely available, $8-15 each) and wire through a compatible triac wall dimmer. At 30-40% brightness, the coloured petals shift from full illumination to atmospheric glow — the petal silhouette and chosen colour become much more apparent than at full brightness. For Pink and Amber especially, dimming is what activates the Calanthe's most powerful effect.

"A chandelier built on the visual logic of a flower opening rather than a crystal cascading. We chose petals because no other glass form holds light the way petals do — softly, layered, almost biologically."
