A generous Washi paper sphere. Floor-scale glow, table-light form.

The Bonn Washi Paper Table Light is a large organic sphere — 17.7 inches across — handcrafted from premium mulberry paper, honoring the centuries-old tradition of Gifu lantern-making. At this generous scale, the Bonn is more than a table lamp; it's a sculptural presence that anchors a room. The thick mulberry Washi paper filters light into a warm golden-hue glow noticeably warmer than synthetic alternatives, mimicking the soft radiance of a setting sun. Placed on a low side table, a console, or directly on the floor in a corner, it becomes the warm heart of a Japandi or minimalist room.

At 17.7" diameter and 23.6" tall, the Bonn occupies the space between table lamp and floor lamp — large enough to read as a statement sculpture, low enough to sit on furniture or the floor. Each piece is individually commission-crafted over 5-10 days. Compatible with E26 LED or Edison bulbs.

01

Generous 17.7" organic sphere

At nearly 18 inches across, the Bonn is dramatically larger than typical table lamps — a sculptural sphere that reads as a statement object rather than a functional accessory. The generous scale produces a large soft pool of warm ambient light, enough to anchor the lighting of an entire corner or seating area.

02

Premium thick mulberry Washi paper

Premium thick mulberry Washi paper that "breathes" — filtering light into a warmer, more golden-hued glow than synthetic market alternatives. The dense paper diffuses the large sphere's light evenly across its entire surface, producing the soft cloud-like radiance that gives the Bonn its sanctuary quality.

03

Gifu lantern-making tradition

The Bonn honors the centuries-old craft of Gifu lantern-making — a traditional Japanese paper-lantern technique. Each lamp is individually commission-crafted by skilled artisans over a 5-10 day process; the metal frame and bamboo wire structure hold the large sphere form true.

Plug-in · table or floor placement

Plug-in installation — no electrician required. Manual button switch on the cord. The 23.6" height and stable base allow placement on low side tables, consoles, or directly on the floor in a corner. Compatible with any E26 LED or Edison bulb up to 60W. 59" cord with free extension on request.

Between table lamp and floor lamp

The Bonn occupies an unusual and useful niche — too large to be an ordinary table lamp, too low to be a floor lamp, it sits in the gap between the two. This in-between scale is exactly what makes it special. On a low side table next to a sofa, it produces a generous pool of warm light at seated eye-height. On the floor in a corner, it becomes a glowing sphere of ambient warmth, the kind of soft floor-level light that transforms a room's atmosphere in the evening. In a bedroom, placed on the floor beside the bed, it offers a gentle alternative to harsh overhead lighting. The generous sphere is sculptural enough to anchor a minimalist room even when unlit; when illuminated, it becomes the warm, glowing heart of the space.

Where the Bonn sits best

Living room floor corner — placed directly on the floor, the glowing sphere produces soft floor-level ambient light; the in-between scale fills the gap between a small table lamp and a tall floor lamp.

Low side table next to a sofa — the generous sphere produces a large warm pool of light at seated eye-height; sculptural presence anchors the seating arrangement.

Bedroom floor beside the bed — soft floor-level glow offers a gentle alternative to overhead lighting; calming warm radiance ideal for winding down.

Console table or low media unit — the large sphere reads as sculpture during the day, ambient anchor in the evening; works in living rooms, entries, and open-plan spaces.

Japandi, Wabi-Sabi, Scandinavian, or minimalist interiors — the organic sphere and warm Washi glow are signature elements of these design traditions; the generous scale adds sculptural presence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Bonn a table lamp or a floor lamp? +

Both — that's the point. At 17.7" diameter × 23.6" tall, the Bonn is too large for an ordinary table lamp but too low to be a standing floor lamp. This in-between scale gives you flexibility: place it on a low side table or console for a generous warm light at seated height, or place it directly on the floor in a corner for soft floor-level ambient glow. Many customers move it between placements seasonally. The stable base and 23.6" height work equally well on furniture or the floor.

How does the Bonn differ from a Washi pendant sphere? +

The Bonn is a freestanding floor/table light with a stable base — it sits on a surface and plugs into a wall outlet, no installation required. Our Washi pendant spheres hang from the ceiling and are hardwired. They share the same warm golden paper glow and organic sphere silhouette, but serve different roles: the Bonn for floor-level and table-level ambient warmth you can move around the room; the pendant for overhead lighting in a fixed ceiling position. Many customers pair them — a pendant sphere overhead and a Bonn on the floor — for layered Washi lighting in a single room.

How do I care for the large Washi paper sphere? +

Dust gently with a soft feather duster or microfiber cloth — the large surface area benefits from regular light dusting. Do not wet-clean, steam, spray with cleaners, or use damp cloths; water permanently stains and warps Washi paper. If placed on the floor, position away from foot-traffic pathways and out of reach of children and pets, as the large sphere is more exposed to bumps than a table-top lamp. Keep away from humid environments and direct heat sources. With basic dusting, the paper maintains its golden glow for many years; slight ambering over time is natural and part of the material's character.

Each piece is individually commission-crafted by artisans over 5-10 days — slight variations between individual lamps in paper texture, sphere geometry, and exact dimensions are part of the authentic hand-craft character.

Safety tested for indoor use in dry locations. Meets technical requirements for North American residential lighting installations.
