FLOOR LAMPS · A 1970S DANISH DESIGN TRIBUTE
Where wood
meets iron.
The Bendik is our tribute to a 1970s Danish design language — a bent-beech-wood spine curving into a signature question-mark silhouette above a heavy cast-iron base. Three shade colors on a warm neutral linen — White, Beige, or Coffee. The design's defining moment is the deliberate juxtaposition of two contrasting materials: organic wood and industrial iron, meeting where a natural tree line would meet stone. Plug-in convenience — 59.1" cord, standard wall outlet, inline on-off switch — no electrician, no installation, no hardwiring. Ships with region-specific plug (US, UK, AU, EU).

A tribute to the tree line.
The Bendik takes its cues from a 1970s Scandinavian design language — a period when Danish designers reimagined domestic lighting as sculptural furniture rather than as fixture object. Our tribute takes one of that era's most enduring silhouettes and reinterprets it faithfully: a single length of bent beech wood curving upward and outward into a gentle question-mark form, terminating in a linen-covered shade whose diameter matches the base plate below. The name Bendik carries the Nordic origin and, in its opening syllable, the bent-wood spine that defines the fixture.
The design's original inspiration came from a fascination with tree lines — the natural boundary that marks where forest meets rock, wood meets stone. That contrast is translated into the fixture directly: the beech-wood spine reads as organic material at scale — grain visible, warm-toned, alive — while the cast-iron base reads as its industrial counterpoint — heavy, geometric, unapologetically machine-made. The two materials meet in a sudden juxtaposition rather than in gradual transition. This is the design's defining moment.
Three linen shade colors let the fixture calibrate to different interiors — White for the cleanest Scandinavian register, Beige for warm neutrals and mixed-material palettes, Coffee for moody or darker interiors where the shade should read as tonal continuation rather than contrast. All three colors sit on the same beech-wood-and-iron structure.
Three linen shades
Same structure. Three registers.

Shade 01
White.
The cleanest Scandinavian register. Correct for minimalist interiors, all-white or greige palettes, contemporary living rooms where the fixture should read as sculptural silhouette against wall or ceiling neutrals. Emphasizes the wood grain by contrast.
Shade 02
Beige.
Warm neutral register. Correct for mixed-material interiors, natural-tone palettes with linen upholstery and untreated wood furniture, and living rooms specifying quiet earth-tone continuity. Reads as tonal companion to the beech-wood spine rather than as visual contrast.
Shade 03
Coffee.
Darker moody register. Correct for interiors with darker walls, richer wood tones, and moody sophisticated palettes. The coffee-toned linen absorbs light rather than reflecting it — the shade reads as sculptural volume in shadow rather than as bright glowing dome.
Setup
Plug in. Switch on. Done.
Step 01
Assemble.
Attach the linen shade to the bent-wood spine, secure the spine into the cast-iron base. All hardware included. Installation guide in the box. Time: 15–20 minutes, no tools beyond what ships with the fixture.
Step 02
Add a bulb.
Standard E26 (US) or E27 (EU/UK/AU) base — the most common household socket size. Every Bendik ships with a warm-white LED bulb (2700K, non-dimmable) pre-fitted and ready to use. Optional upgrade to Edison-style filament bulbs (for vintage 1970s character) or dimmable warm-white LEDs available separately.
Step 03
Plug in.
59.1" (150 cm) cord terminates in your region-specific plug — select US, UK, AU, or EU at checkout. Direct into any standard wall outlet. Inline on/off switch on the cord for lamp control without reaching behind furniture. No electrician, no hardwiring, no installation.
One design note: the electrical cord is routed along the back of the bent-wood spine and is visible from that side. This is part of the fixture's original 1970s honest-construction design language — the wiring is not hidden inside the wood. Position the lamp with the front-facing spine toward the room's primary sightline; the cord side reads as clean vertical line from most viewing angles.
Applications
Six rooms for a bent-wood spine.
Application 01
Reading corners.
Beside a favourite armchair or reading nook. The question-mark spine curves over the seated position naturally, directing warm light onto the reading surface. Beige or Coffee shade for cozy reading atmosphere; White for brighter task focus.
Application 02
Modern living rooms.
Anchoring one end of a seating cluster — behind a sofa, beside a chaise, or in a room's corner where the sculptural silhouette reads as sculptural presence rather than as functional lighting object. Works in Scandinavian, mid-century, and minimalist contemporary interiors.
Application 03
Bedrooms & suites.
Bedside position or across from the bed as ambient corner lighting. The 59" height keeps the shade above sitting-eye-level but below standing eye-level — correct for atmospheric bedroom register. Coffee shade reads particularly sophisticated in bedroom applications.
Application 04
Home offices & studies.
Beside a writing desk or reading chair in home offices where the design register is considered rather than utilitarian. The plug-in convenience means no professional installation required — position anywhere with a standard wall outlet.
Application 05
Entryway foyers.
Anchoring an entryway console or foyer corner where the sculptural silhouette reads as welcome statement. The bent-wood spine catches attention on entry; the linen shade throws diffused warm light onto the entryway wall. Beige and White shades work particularly well in entryway applications.
Application 06 · commercial
Boutique hospitality.
Boutique-hotel guest rooms, hospitality reading lounges, and lobby-side reading corners. Matched-shade coordination available for multi-room hospitality installations where all rooms should share visual identity through consistent shade color choice.
Craft
Beech. Iron. Linen.
The bent-wood spine is a single length of European beech steamed and bent to the fixture's signature question-mark form. Beech was the specified material in the 1970s Danish original for its combination of tight grain, structural strength under bending stress, and warm neutral tone that reads as considered material choice rather than as raw lumber. Each spine is finished with a clear natural wax that protects the wood without adding colored stain — the grain reads as beech would in its natural state.
The base is cast iron — the traditional companion material for Scandinavian floor lamps of the period. Cast iron delivers the weight required for tip-safety on the 59" tall fixture and reads as unapologetically industrial counterpoint to the wood above. The base is finished with matte black powder coating that resists chipping and reads flatly rather than as reflective metal surface.
The shade is natural linen fabric — a woven material rather than a printed synthetic — stretched over an internal wire frame that maintains the shade's diameter (28.4") consistently. Linen was specified in the original because it diffuses warm-toned bulbs without absorbing color the way heavier fabrics do. The three colorways (White, Beige, Coffee) are dyed in the raw linen before weaving rather than surface-printed after — the color reads consistently across the entire shade rather than fading at seams or edges.

Questions
Is the Bendik dimmable? ✜
The pre-fitted bulb is non-dimmable, and the inline switch on the cord operates as on/off only. For dimming, swap the included bulb for a dimmable E26 (or E27) LED bulb combined with an inline dimmer cord adapter (widely available at any lighting retailer, sold separately). At 40–60% brightness, the linen shade catches light at its most atmospheric register — the fixture reads as warm sculptural glow rather than as bright task illumination. For bedrooms and reading corners, dimmable control significantly extends the range of moods the fixture supports.
Which bulb should I use? ✜
The Bendik uses a standard E26 (US) or E27 (EU/UK/AU) base — the most common household socket size in most global markets. Bulb included: every Bendik ships with a standard non-dimmable warm-white LED bulb pre-fitted (2700K), calibrated to complement the beech-wood-and-linen palette. Optional upgrades: for vintage 1970s character, swap in an Edison-style E26/E27 filament bulb (LED or classic tungsten) for warm amber tones that reinforce the design tribute; for dimming, swap in a dimmable warm-white E26/E27 LED. Avoid 4000K or higher (too white — clashes with the natural material palette). Maximum 60W (or LED equivalent).
Which shade color should I choose? ✜
Match the shade to your interior's dominant register. White — for minimalist, all-white, greige, and clean-Scandinavian interiors where the fixture should read as sculptural silhouette against wall neutrals. Emphasizes the beech-wood grain by contrast. Beige — for warm neutrals, mixed-material palettes with linen upholstery and natural wood furniture. Reads as tonal companion to the beech spine rather than as visual contrast. The safest default choice when uncertain. Coffee — for darker walls, richer wood tones, and moody sophisticated palettes. Absorbs light rather than reflecting it — reads as sculptural volume in shadow. Not recommended for rooms where the fixture is the only significant light source, as the darker shade throws less ambient light into the surrounding space.
Is this a licensed reissue of a specific 1970s design? ✜
The Bendik is our tribute to a Scandinavian design language of the 1970s — an era when Danish designers reimagined domestic lighting as sculptural furniture. It draws on that period's shared vocabulary of bent-wood spines, cast-iron bases, and linen shades. If you are seeking an officially licensed reissue of a specific designer's original piece, we recommend consulting the estate or authorized manufacturer of that designer for authenticated provenance. The Bendik is an independent interpretation of the era's design principles rather than a claim on any single designer's authorship.
Why is the cord exposed on the back of the spine? ✜
The electrical cord is routed along the back of the bent-beech spine rather than hidden inside the wood — this is the original 1970s design intent, part of the era's honest-construction language where the fixture's mechanics remained visible rather than concealed. Hiding the cord inside the wood would require a hollow spine, which would compromise the beech's structural integrity and change the sculptural silhouette from single solid form to hollow tube. The exposed cord reads as clean vertical line from most viewing angles and disappears visually against most wall backgrounds. Position the fixture with the front-facing spine toward the room's primary sightline for cleanest visual reading.
Do I need an electrician to install this? ✜
No. The Bendik is a plug-in floor lamp — no hardwiring, no electrician, no permanent installation. Assembly takes 15–20 minutes using only the hardware included in the box (attach the shade to the spine, secure the spine into the base). Once assembled, the pre-fitted warm-white LED bulb is already in the socket — plug the 59.1" cord into any standard wall outlet and press the inline on/off switch on the cord. Select US, UK, AU, or EU plug at checkout — the fixture ships with your region's plug pre-fitted.
How do I clean and maintain the fixture? ✜
Each material has its own care approach. Beech-wood spine: dust with a soft dry microfibre cloth; every 3–6 months re-apply a thin layer of clear furniture wax to maintain the wax finish (wipe on, buff off). Avoid abrasive cleaners and any water-based sprays that could raise the grain. Cast-iron base: dust with a dry cloth; if the powder coating chips over time, touch up with matte black furniture paint. Never use rust-remover products (unnecessary — the powder coating protects the iron). Linen shade: dust with a soft brush or vacuum with a fabric attachment on the lowest suction; for spot stains, blot (do not rub) with a lightly damp cloth using cool water only. Never machine-wash — the internal wire frame will distort. For deep cleaning, professional dry cleaning of the fabric shade is possible if the frame is removed first (contact us for instructions if needed).
Can I use this in a bathroom or covered outdoor space? ✜
No — indoor dry locations only. The Bendik is rated IP20, which provides no protection against moisture. The materials (untreated beech wood, linen fabric) will warp or discolor in humid environments. Avoid installing in bathrooms, near swimming pools, in covered outdoor patios, or in any location where humidity regularly exceeds normal residential interior levels. Correct locations: living rooms, bedrooms, home offices, entryway foyers, and indoor reading corners.
Trade programs and hospitality orders? ✜
Yes — the Bendik is a specified fixture for boutique-hotel guest rooms, hospitality reading lounges, and multi-room residential design projects where consistent design register across rooms is the specification. Trade programs available; matched-shade coordination for multi-fixture installations (all White, all Beige, or all Coffee across coordinated rooms); coordinated plug specification for multi-region hospitality projects (US + EU shipments to the same client, for instance); larger-quantity production coordination. Production lead times run 4–6 weeks; multi-fixture orders and mixed-region-plug orders may extend proportionally depending on production planning. Write to support@stuberlighting.com with your project brief — quantity, shade color mix, plug region breakdown, and installation timeline.
Design tribute note
The Bendik is our independent interpretation of a Scandinavian design language of the 1970s — a period when Danish designers reimagined domestic lighting as sculptural furniture. It is not marketed as an officially licensed reissue of any specific designer's original piece. For officially licensed reissues of specific mid-century designer works, we recommend consulting the estate or authorized manufacturer of that designer for authenticated provenance.
"The Bendik takes its cues from a 1970s Danish design language that treated domestic lighting as sculptural furniture — a bent-beech spine curving over a cast-iron base, terminating in a linen shade. Three shade colors, four regional plugs, one enduring silhouette. The plug-in convenience means no electrician; the honest-construction wiring means the fixture reads exactly as its 1970s ancestors did. Our first floor lamp, and a considered entry into a design register we've been quietly researching for some time."
