MURANO GLASS · N°11 · SIX-TONE SPECTRUM
The aurora, at ceiling height.

I · The shift
Iridescence, explained.
Iridescence is not a colour. It's an optical property — the way certain surfaces refract incoming light at different angles, producing a shift of colours across the spectrum as the viewer moves. The wings of Morpho butterflies do this. The interior of an abalone shell does this. In hand-blown glass, iridescence is achieved by applying metallic vapour to the surface while the glass is still hot from the furnace — a thin coating of tin or titanium bonds to the outer skin of the disc, creating the angle-dependent optical effect.
Each Aurora disc combines its underlying colour with this iridescent surface. From directly below, you see the underlying tone — blue, green, orange, pink, white, or clear — with subtle rainbow shimmer at the edges. From an angle, walking around the room, the iridescent shift becomes more pronounced: green notes appearing on the blue disc, gold across the pink, indigo across the clear. It is designed to be looked at more than once — the fixture behaves differently in the morning than at sunset, differently from the seat at the head of the table than from the doorway.
II · The spectrum
Six tones, six rooms.
Clear
The versatile
Translucent clear glass with iridescent surface. The fixture is present but never dictates the room's palette. Correct for interiors that want Murano craft without adding tinted glass.
Blue
Ocean · editorial
Deep translucent ocean blue. Reads as considered architectural colour rather than pale coastal. Correct for coastal-modern and editorial cool-toned interiors.
Green
Olive · botanical
Translucent olive green. Reads as warm-botanical rather than lawn-green. Correct for interiors with warm wood, cream palettes, or a botanical accent.
Orange
Rare · bold accent
Vibrant sunset-orange — the rare colour few chandeliers choose. Correct for interiors that want a warm colour anchor — modern-bold, Italian villa, contemporary rooms with confident personality.
Pink
Rose · feminine
Soft rose-pink with iridescent shift. Correct for romantic-modern, feminine primary bedrooms, dressing rooms, and any space where warm colour is welcome.
White
Rare · minimalist
Milk-white translucent glass with iridescent shimmer. Correct for minimalist, Scandinavian-inspired, or all-white interiors where colour would compete.
III · The pair
The Aurora and its sister.
The Aurora is one of two iridescent-disc Murano fixtures in our collection. Its sister is the Rosalia, a single-colour rose-pink chandelier at 19.7-inch scale, designed specifically for boudoirs, primary bedrooms, and romantic-feminine interiors that want a considered single-tone accent. The Aurora is broader in its offering — six colours, slightly smaller at 17.7-inch scale, priced accessibly at $799 versus the Rosalia's $999.
Choose the Aurora if you want the iridescent-disc form but need a specific colour to work with your interior; if the room is a dining room, living room, or foyer rather than a bedroom; or if the compact size is what fits the ceiling clearance. Choose the Rosalia if the room is a bedroom or dressing room asking for a romantic-pink accent specifically, and if the larger scale reads correctly to the ceiling and room proportion. Both fixtures share the same Murano-tradition iridescent-glass technique and polished-nickel frame — the difference is scope, scale, and price.
IV · The scale
Single-size, deliberately compact.
The Aurora is produced in a single size — 17.7 inches in diameter, 18.5 inches in height. The proportion is deliberate: substantial enough to anchor a medium dining table, foyer, or living room accent; compact enough to work in rooms with standard 8- to 9-foot ceilings, and small enough that colour statement doesn't overwhelm the room.
| Aurora | 17.7"⌀ × 18.5"H |
| Suggested rooms | Medium dining · living-room accent · foyer · statement bedroom · hospitality |
| Not suited to | Grand foyers · 12+ seat dining tables · double-height living rooms as sole fixture |

Standard 11.8-inch chain, adjustable. Custom longer chain lengths available at no extra charge — write to support@stuberlighting.com with ceiling-to-floor measurement and desired hanging height. For rooms larger than the Aurora suits, consider the Rosalia (Pink, 19.7") or the Verona (Colourful, 23.6").
V · The craft
Considered, throughout.
Bulbs included.
The Aurora ships with its complete set of E12 warm-white LED bulbs. 2700K warm-white is chosen deliberately: it's the temperature at which the coloured glass reads warmest and the iridescent shift produces the most saturated colour play. Dimmable-compatible if you swap to dimmable E12 LEDs and pair with a triac wall dimmer — Edison-style bulbs are also compatible for a warmer, more vintage-industrial reading.
Nickel, not gold.
The polished nickel frame is a deliberate design decision — cooler-toned than gold, and calibrated to let the coloured disc be the visual event rather than competing with a warm-toned frame. Nickel is also more architecturally versatile: it fits alongside stainless-steel kitchen hardware, brushed-metal fixtures, and modern Scandinavian palettes where a warm-gold frame would read anachronistic.
Adjustable chain.
Standard 11.8-inch adjustable drop chain. Custom lengths available at no extra charge for reasonable extensions — particularly useful for double-height foyer installations, vaulted-ceiling rooms, or lofts. Write to service@stuberlighting.com before ordering with your ceiling-to-floor measurement.
Individual variation.
Each disc is hand-blown and hand-finished with iridescent metallic-vapour treatment, one at a time — subtle variations in pigment intensity, iridescent depth, and surface pattern remain by design. Your Aurora will be subtly different from photographs and from every other Aurora produced. Machine-pressed uniformity would signal a different production method entirely.
VI · Where it belongs
Rooms with a colour to match.
A medium modern dining room — Clear or Blue for cool-toned neutral palettes, Orange or Pink for warm-toned interiors, White for all-white minimalist rooms. The Aurora is deliberately sized for 6-8 seat tables where a grand chandelier would over-scale and a small pendant would under-scale.
A modern living-room accent — over a coffee table, above a seating group, or in the centre of an open-plan living space. Blue and Green fit coastal and botanical interiors; Orange and Pink read as considered warm accents; White works in all-white minimalist rooms where colour would compete.
A standard foyer or entry — the compact 17.7" scale reads correctly in medium foyers with 8-10 foot ceilings. Clear or White for neutral entries; Blue or Green for palette-forward welcomes; Orange or Pink to declare colour personality from the moment guests walk in.
A hospitality installation — small-scale hospitality specifiers appreciate the Aurora's colour range: restaurant private-dining rooms, café interiors, wine bars, boutique-hotel accents. Multi-fixture installations with different colours across a single venue create memorable visual identity. Coordinated matched-batch material available for commercial orders.

VIII · Questions
Which of the six colours is right for my room? ◈
Clear for interiors where you want the sculptural form without adding tinted glass. Blue for coastal-modern and editorial cool-toned rooms. Green for warm-wood and cream palettes wanting a botanical anchor. Orange for confident-modern interiors wanting a warm colour anchor — Italian villa, contemporary bold. Pink for romantic-modern and feminine rooms — primary bedrooms, dressing rooms. White for minimalist and all-white palettes where any tinted colour would compete. If your room is truly neutral or you can't decide, Clear is the safest — it reads considered regardless of interior palette. If you specifically want the Pink at larger scale, our Rosalia (19.7", pure Pink Iridescent) is the higher-end alternative.
What does "iridescent" actually look like? ◈
The best analogy is the inside of an abalone shell — that shifting play of pink, green, gold, indigo, and violet as you move around the piece. On the Aurora, the underlying colour is the disc's colour (blue, orange, pink, etc.); the iridescence is a metallic-vapour surface treatment layered on top. From directly below, you see mostly the underlying colour with subtle rainbow shimmer at the edges. From an angle — walking around the dining table, sitting at head vs. side — the iridescent shift becomes much more pronounced, with green, gold, and indigo notes appearing where the pure colour was a moment before. It is fundamentally an angle-dependent effect, which means the fixture behaves differently depending on how people move through the room.
Aurora or Rosalia — which iridescent-disc? ◈
Both share the same iridescent-disc Murano technique and polished-nickel frame. The Aurora offers six colour choices (blue, green, orange, pink, white, clear) at compact 17.7-inch scale, priced at $799 — designed for dining rooms, living rooms, foyers, and any interior wanting a specific colour to work with the palette. The Rosalia offers pure Pink Iridescent in a single edition at 19.7-inch scale, priced at $999 — designed specifically for boudoirs, primary bedrooms, and romantic-feminine interiors that want a single-tone rose accent at more substantial scale. If you want Pink and the room is a bedroom or dressing room wanting a romantic accent, choose Rosalia. If you want a different colour, a smaller-scale fixture, or a lower price point, choose Aurora.
Is the glass genuinely Murano? ◈
The Aurora is produced using Murano-tradition technique — hand-blown, batch-coloured glass with iridescent surface treatment applied in the still-hot state, in the manner of the Venetian tradition. We are transparent about the distinction in fine residential lighting between certified-Murano (from designated Italian houses, priced at $8,000+ per fixture) and Murano-technique pieces (produced in equally qualified glassblowing studios). The Aurora is the latter — true hand-blown iridescent art glass in the Italian tradition, accessibly priced. If certification is critical for your commercial or institutional application, we recommend purchasing from a certified Murano house directly.
Can I dim it? ◈
Yes — strongly recommended. The included E12 LED bulbs are non-dimmable warm-white. To enable dimming: replace with dimmable E12 LEDs (widely available, $8-15 each) and wire through a compatible triac wall dimmer. At 30-50% brightness, the coloured glass reveals its full atmospheric character — the iridescent shift becomes more pronounced, the fixture takes on the quality of firelight through wine. For dining rooms and living rooms with evening use, dimming is what transforms the Aurora from ordinary illumination into an atmospheric fixture.
How do I clean iridescent glass? ◈
Gently. The iridescent surface is a metallic-vapour coating bonded to the outer glass — durable in normal use but sensitive to abrasive cleaners or ammonia-based glass sprays, which can dull the iridescent effect over time. Routine: dust with a soft microfibre cloth every 2-3 months. Deeper cleaning: a soft cloth barely dampened with warm water only (no soap, no glass cleaner) — wipe individual discs one at a time, dry immediately with a separate dry microfibre. Never use paper towels (fibres catch on the iridescent surface texture). The polished nickel frame is wiped with dry microfibre only. Turn power off at the breaker before cleaning to avoid electrical hazard.
"We built the Aurora as the accessible sister to our Rosalia — same iridescent Murano technique, same polished nickel frame, but with the range of colour choice that lets more interiors find their fit. Six tones rather than one; six rooms rather than one type of room. The compact scale is not a compromise. It's an invitation to interiors that want considered craft without asking the ceiling to hold a grand statement."
