FLOOR LAMPS · A GRACEFUL OVERHEAD ARC

A single curve
reaching overhead.

The Arco is our overhead-reach floor lamp — a graceful curved arm sweeping W 47.2" out from a weighted base to suspend a soft-glow acrylic shade over the surface below. This is the floor lamp for rooms where you want overhead ambient light without a ceiling-mounted pendant — above the sofa, the sectional, the reading nook, the dining table, or beside the bed. Integrated LED at 25W warm-white delivers even diffused glow through the acrylic shade; a push-button switch on the 59" cord makes daily use effortless. Plug-in convenience means no electrician required. Two metal finishes (Black or White) match the arc to your room's palette. Ships assembled-ready with your region's plug (US/UK/AU/EU) — the Arco is set up in minutes rather than hours.

Setup

Plug-in convenience

Push-button switch · no electrician

Ceiling-quality light. Floor-lamp convenience.

Overhead ambient light is what makes a room feel finished. It's what pendants and chandeliers do — cast light down from above the room's key surfaces, creating the kind of soft even glow that lamps at eye level can't produce. The problem is that pendants require ceiling wiring, ceiling access, a licensed electrician, and a landlord who allows structural changes. Renters, apartment dwellers, and anyone with a fixed layout are typically locked out of overhead light entirely — until the Arco.

The Arco solves this by bringing overhead reach to a floor-lamp base. The graceful curved arm sweeps 47.2" horizontally from a weighted floor base, positioning the light source directly over the sofa, sectional, dining table, or bed — exactly where a pendant would sit — without touching the ceiling. Plug into the nearest wall outlet, press the push-button switch on the 59" cord, and you have overhead ambient light in the room within minutes. Move house, and the fixture moves with you. Rearrange the furniture, and the arc repositions along with it.

The design language draws on the 1960s Italian arc-lamp lineage — a mid-century vernacular that treated the overhead arc as considered sculptural gesture rather than as purely functional fixture. The Arco updates that vernacular with contemporary materials (integrated 25W LED for 50,000-hour lifespan and no bulb changes, precision-cut acrylic diffuser for even soft glow, powder-coated metal for durability) while preserving the graceful arching silhouette that made the original tradition endure. Reads as considered mid-century modern statement in interiors specifying that register, and as clean minimalist sculpture in contemporary rooms.

The arc

Three moments define the silhouette.

Moment 01

Weighted base.

The base is a compact weighted floor plate that anchors the arc's cantilever load and holds the fixture stable through daily use. Engineered heavy enough that the fixture will not tip when brushed against, but sized to sit unobtrusively beside furniture rather than dominating the floor plan around it.

Moment 02 ★

Arching arm.

Powder-coated metal arm curves gracefully from the base up and over — H 66.9" at its highest point, sweeping W 47.2" horizontally from the base column. The curve is calibrated to hold structural rigidity without visible reinforcement; reads as considered graphic gesture rather than as bent utility tube.

Moment 03

Suspended shade.

White precision-cut acrylic diffuser suspended at the arm's end — its position 47.2" out from the base places it directly over the surface below (sofa, dining table, bed). Frosted acrylic scatters the integrated LED into even soft glow without harsh glare or spot shadow beneath the illuminated area.

The three elements read as one continuous line rather than as separate components — this is how the fixture achieves its sculptural character. From across the room, the Arco reads as considered graphic gesture; up close, it reveals as three integrated architectural moments.

Two finishes

Graphic black, or quiet white.

Finish 01 ★

Black.

Matte black powder-coated arc reads as intentional graphic mark against pale walls, white ceilings, and light-toned upholstery. Correct for modern-contemporary interiors, industrial-loft register, and rooms with black-steel details elsewhere. The arc becomes a visible drawn line in the room rather than a fixture that disappears — the more design-forward of the two finishes.

Modern · graphic · statement

Finish 02

White.

Matte white powder-coated arc recedes into light-toned walls and ceilings, letting the shade's soft glow read as the fixture's primary presence rather than the arc's structural mark. Correct for interiors specifying quieter register — Scandinavian, Japandi, minimalist bedrooms, all-white apartments — where the fixture should support the room's mood rather than command attention.

Quiet · minimal · recessive

Applications

Six overhead-reach rooms.

Application 01

Above sofas & sectionals.

The primary application. Position the base beside the sofa arm; the arc sweeps overhead to place the shade centred above the seating cluster. Reads as ambient overhead light for evening conversation, movie watching, or extended lounging. The 47.2" arc reach covers standard-depth sofas and most sectional configurations.

Application 02

Above dining tables.

Position the base against a wall behind the dining area; the arc reaches out to suspend the shade above the tabletop. Correct for renters and apartment dwellers who cannot install ceiling-mounted pendants above the dining table. Works best for 4-6 seat tables where the arc's reach covers the primary seating area.

Application 03

Beside beds.

Position the base beside the bedside table or headboard; the arc positions the shade overhead above the pillow area for evening reading and bedside ambient. Eliminates the need for wall-mounted reading sconces or ceiling-installed bedroom pendants. Push-button switch on the cord allows bedside control without reaching up.

Application 04

Reading nooks & corners.

Position the base behind a favourite armchair or chaise; the arc suspends the shade overhead for correct reading light quality. Different register from the Bendik (which reads as compact traditional Danish craft) — the Arco is the more sculptural mid-century statement choice for reading corners in modern interiors.

Application 05

Entryway foyers & hallways.

Position beside an entryway console or in a hallway junction where the arching form reads as considered sculptural welcome. Particularly correct for foyers with wall outlets available but no ceiling wiring for pendant installation.

Application 06 · commercial

Boutique hotel guest rooms.

Boutique-hotel guest room seating areas, hospitality reading lounges, and Airbnb-styled short-term rental units where the plug-in convenience allows repositioning between rooms without electrician labor cost. The Italian mid-century register reads as considered upscale design across most boutique hospitality aesthetics.

Choosing

A two-step decision.

1

Black or White?

Black — for graphic contrast against pale walls; reads as visible drawn arc in the room. Correct for modern-contemporary interiors, industrial-loft register, black-steel-detail palettes. The more design-forward choice. White — for quiet register that recedes into light-toned walls; lets the shade's glow read as the fixture's presence rather than the arc structure. Correct for Scandinavian, Japandi, minimalist bedrooms, all-white apartments. The safer choice when uncertain.

2

Select your plug type.

Choose your region at checkout. US Plug for North America (Type A/B, 110-120V). UK Plug for United Kingdom, Ireland, and former British territories (Type G, 220-240V). AU Plug for Australia and New Zealand (Type I, 220-240V). EU Plug for European Union countries (Type C/F, 220-240V). The fixture ships wired for your selected region; no adapters or rewiring required.

Craft

Metal. Acrylic. Integrated LED.

Every Arco is assembled from three primary components. The arching arm and weighted base are steel with matte powder-coat finish (Black or White) — powder-coating is chosen over paint or lacquer for durability against daily brushing, moisture-resistance for humid interior conditions, and colour-stability over time without fading or yellowing. The arm's curve is achieved through precision bending, calibrated to hold structural rigidity along the full 47.2" cantilever without visible reinforcement bracing. The suspended shade is precision-cut acrylic with double-sided frosted surface treatment — the frosting scatters the integrated LED's output into even diffused glow across the illuminated area below. Shade colour is white regardless of arm finish; the base finish and shade white create the two-tone contrast that defines the fixture's silhouette.

The integrated LED array is a 25W SMD driver-integrated system built into the shade housing — no bulb replacement over the fixture's lifetime (approximately 50,000 hours of operation, or 15+ years of typical residential use). The LED is calibrated to 3000K warm-white for correct evening ambient character. Power delivery is via a 59.1" cord with in-line push-button switch — press once to turn on, press again to turn off. Compatible with AC 110-240V household current worldwide via your selected plug type at checkout. Certified for North America, EU, Australia, and Saudi Arabia electrical standards.

Questions

Arco or Bendik — which floor lamp is right for me?

Both are plug-in floor lamps but at very different registers. Arco (this fixture) — arching overhead reach, W 47.2" × H 66.9", integrated 25W LED, Italian mid-century modern lineage, matte black or white powder-coated metal + frosted acrylic shade. Correct for above-sofa, above-dining, above-bed, and reading-nook applications where you want ceiling-quality overhead light without ceiling wiring. Reads as sculptural mid-century statement. Bendik Floor Lamp — compact vertical form, Ø 28.4" × H 59", E26/E27 bulb (not included, supply your own), 1970s Danish design tribute, beech wood spine + cast iron base + linen shade in 3 colors. Correct for reading corners beside armchairs where you want traditional warm Danish craft character. Reads as compact vintage warm object. Choose Arco for overhead reach + modern statement; choose Bendik for compact + warm traditional.

How much floor space does the arc require?

The base is compact (approximately 12" × 12" floor footprint), but the arc's horizontal reach means you need clearance of roughly 48" from the base to the arc's shade tip — the shade extends 47.2" out from the base column. Plan the base position so that: (1) the base sits beside your furniture (not in a walkway), and (2) the shade tip clears the surface below without hitting walls, art, or hanging pendants. The arc is fixed — it does not rotate or telescope — so plan the base position carefully. In a 10 × 12 ft living room, the Arco sits comfortably beside a standard 7-ft sofa without dominating the floor plan.

Is this an authenticated Flos Arco reissue?

No. The Flos Arco Lamp is a specific fixture designed by Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni in 1962 and manufactured by Flos under exclusive license from the Castiglioni estate — those pieces feature a Carrara marble base and a specific proprietary stainless steel arm profile. The Arco (this fixture) is our own independent interpretation drawing on the broader 1960s Italian arc-lamp design lineage that the Castiglioni original helped establish; it uses a powder-coated steel base rather than marble and an integrated LED rather than the original's incandescent bulb. It is not marketed as a Flos reissue and is not authorized under the Castiglioni estate. If you are seeking an authenticated Flos Arco specifically, we recommend consulting Flos authorized retailers. If you are seeking a considered arching floor lamp with modern integrated LED convenience, the Arco serves that specification.

Will the fixture tip over?

The weighted base is engineered heavy enough to counterbalance the arc's cantilever load and hold the fixture stable through daily use — the fixture will not tip when you brush against it or when someone reaches under the arc. That said, this is a floor-standing fixture with a 47.2" horizontal arc reach, so certain scenarios do warrant caution: avoid installing where small children can pull on the arc or the shade, avoid installing where large dogs may bump the arc directly, and do not attempt to lift the fixture by the arc or shade (lift by the base column). Position the base flush against the floor (not on a rug edge that could rock under load). If you have specific concerns about your installation location, we recommend a professional lighting installer's opinion.

Can I dim the LED?

Not with a wall dimmer. The integrated LED is engineered for the specific 3000K warm-white output at its rated 25W — there is no dimming circuit built into the fixture, and the push-button switch on the cord operates as on/off only. The LED cannot be replaced with a dimmable bulb because the LED array is integrated into the shade housing rather than being a screw-in bulb. If you need adjustable brightness in your interior, consider our Bendik Floor Lamp (E26/E27 socket, works with any dimmable warm-white LED bulb + triac wall dimmer) or our Linea Pendant Light Smart Dimming variant (remote-controlled brightness and colour temperature).

How is the fixture assembled — is professional installation required?

No professional installation required. The Arco ships in three main sections (weighted base, arching arm, shade with integrated LED and cord) that assemble with basic hand tools — mounting hardware and clear illustrated instructions included. Typical assembly time is 15-25 minutes single-person. Once assembled, plug the cord into the nearest wall outlet with your selected region's plug, press the push-button switch on the cord, and you have light. No electrician, no ceiling access, no landlord permission required. The fixture can be disassembled for future moves and reassembled in a new home.

What happens when the LED reaches end-of-life?

The integrated LED is rated for 50,000 hours of operation — approximately 15+ years of typical residential use (4 hours per day). If the LED fails within its rated lifespan under normal residential conditions, contact us at support@stuberlighting.com for warranty support and replacement guidance. If the LED reaches end-of-life after the rated lifespan (which most fixtures reach without failure), replacement requires a full LED-array swap by a qualified lighting technician rather than a simple bulb change; contact us for replacement-LED parts availability. The integrated-LED design trades bulb-replacement convenience for uninterrupted architectural silhouette and 50,000-hour reliability. If you specifically want the ability to change bulbs, our Bendik Floor Lamp uses a standard E26/E27 socket.

How do I clean and maintain the fixture?

Powder-coated metal (arm and base): wipe with a soft dry microfibre cloth for regular dust; for stubborn marks, use a slightly damp microfibre with mild dish soap solution then dry immediately. The powder-coat finish resists fingerprints and stains in normal conditions. Avoid abrasive cleaners, ammonia-based products, or acetone solvents — these will damage the powder-coat finish over time. Frosted acrylic shade: wipe with soft dry microfibre; for stubborn marks, slightly damp cloth with mild soap solution then dry. Never use ammonia-based glass cleaners on acrylic (will cause permanent cloudiness). Quarterly cleaning is sufficient for typical residential applications.

Trade programs and hospitality installations?

Yes — the Arco is a specified fixture for boutique-hotel guest rooms, Airbnb-styled short-term rentals, and hospitality reading lounges where plug-in convenience allows repositioning between rooms without electrician labor cost. Multi-unit installations across coordinated guest rooms produce considered material consistency. Trade programs available; extended cord lengths on request at no extra charge; project-management coordination for larger orders; matched-batch finish coordination for multi-fixture installations. Production lead times run 4-6 weeks; multi-fixture orders may extend proportionally. "The Arco is our overhead-reach floor lamp — a graceful curved arm suspending soft warm glow over the surface below without touching the ceiling. Renters, apartment dwellers, and anyone with a fixed layout finally get overhead ambient light where it belongs. The design language draws on the 1960s Italian arc-lamp lineage, updated with integrated LED convenience and modern powder-coated finishes. Sister fixture to our Bendik (1970s Danish reading-corner compact register) — same Floor Lamps category, very different design conversations."

Designer Tribute Note. The Arco is an independent interpretation drawing on the 1960s Italian arc-lamp design lineage. It is not marketed as, and is not, an officially licensed reissue of any particular historically named designer piece — including Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglioni's 1962 Arco Lamp manufactured under exclusive license by Flos. For authenticated pieces from named designers or manufacturers, we recommend consulting the estate's authorized retailers and licensed manufacturers directly. The Stuberlighting Arco offers modern integrated-LED convenience and contemporary powder-coated finishes rather than the material specifications of any historical original.
