The Akari UF4-L9 is the largest cocoon-silhouette floor lamp in our family — a 74-inch tall hand-folded mulberry Washi paper shade in soft, organically-curved cocoon form, supported by a reinforced black metal tripod base. Where our smaller UF3-DL brings cocoon character at mid-scale (55"), the UF4-L9 takes the same organic aesthetic to architectural commanding height. The result is sculpture rather than fixture — a six-foot-two cocoon of warm paper presence that anchors large North American interiors with what we call Contemporary Zen aesthetic.
Long-fiber mulberry Washi paper provides superior light diffusion and structural integrity over the larger surface area. The reinforced tripod base provides professional-grade stability for the substantial shade. This is the crown jewel of our floor lamp family — calibrated for the rooms where standard floor lamps would get lost.

How does UF4-L9 compare to UF4-L6, UF4-33N, and UF4-L10? +
Four tall floor lamps in our family, four different silhouettes — all in the 70-74 inch height range, designed for vaulted and large-scale rooms but visually distinct. The UF4-33N (19" × 72.8") has a smooth continuous column — clean elegant verticality. The UF4-L10 (18.9" × 70.9") has the stacked rhythmic banded silhouette — architectural visual texture. The UF4-L6 (20.5" × 74") is the tallest smooth-form floor lamp. The UF4-L9 (this fixture, 20.5" × 74") is the only tall floor lamp with the organic cocoon silhouette — hand-folded asymmetric form rather than clean smooth or stacked geometry. Choose UF4-L9 when you want the organic cocoon character at commanding scale; choose UF4-33N/L6 for clean smooth verticality; choose UF4-L10 for stacked architectural texture.
Is 74 inches too tall for my room? +
We strongly recommend 9-foot ceilings or higher for the UF4-L9. At 74 inches tall, in a standard 8-foot ceiling room (96 inches), the lamp leaves only 22 inches of clearance above — visually this feels crowded and reduces the architectural sculpture effect the lamp is designed for. The UF4-L9 earns its scale in 9-10ft+ ceilings, vaulted spaces, and lofts. For standard rooms, consider our smaller cocoon fixture UF3-DL (55") — same organic cocoon aesthetic at a more proportional mid-scale, or our standard 10A (49") for compact rooms.
How do I care for the large cocoon Washi shade? +
Dust gently with a long-handled feather duster or microfiber wand — at 74 inches you'll need extended reach. Pay particular attention to the folded ridges where dust collects. Do not wet-clean, steam, spray with cleaners, or use damp cloths; water permanently stains and warps Washi paper. The long-fiber mulberry paper used in the UF4-L9 is more durable than thinner synthetic alternatives, but it still requires careful handling — avoid pressing or pushing on the cocoon shade. Place the lamp away from humid environments and direct heat sources. With basic monthly dusting, the paper maintains its appearance for many years; slight ambering over time is natural and part of the material's character.
For the warmest paper-glow effect, use 2700K-3000K LED or filament bulbs with high color rendering (CRI/Ra > 90). Cooler bulbs flatten the paper's natural amber undertone.
Each piece is hand-folded by artisans — minor variations in paper texture, cocoon symmetry, and exact proportions are natural characteristics that make each UF4-L9 truly one-of-a-kind.
Place on a stable, level floor surface away from high-traffic pathways. Due to the tall scale and substantial shade, position out of reach of small children and pets.
