The Akari E Series is our most architectural pendant family — six elongated vertical silhouettes ranging from a relatively modest 41.3" tall up to a monumental 106.3" tall (nearly nine feet). Where most pendants spread horizontally, the E Series goes vertical: tall narrow columns of hand-stretched Washi paper that descend gracefully from high ceilings, fill staircase voids, and anchor double-height spaces that smaller fixtures cannot reach. The proportions are dramatic — diameter is typically 6-8× smaller than height — producing fixtures that read as suspended architectural columns rather than hanging lanterns.

This is the Akari for the rooms most pendant lighting cannot address: two-story foyers, vaulted living rooms, lofts with exposed-beam ceilings, double-height entries, modernist staircase voids. Standard pendants get lost in these spaces. The E Series fills them.

The widest height range of any pendant family in our catalog. The smallest IM model at 41.3" suits 10-12ft ceilings; the largest EL model at 106.3" reaches into 14-18ft vaulted spaces and two-story foyers. The full range means there is an E Series pendant for nearly any high-ceiling space.

Premium high-fiber mulberry Washi paper — denser and more durable than tissue-grade alternatives, with unique light-scattering properties that create a "living" warm glow. The paper softens the cold geometry of modern architecture in a way that synthetic materials cannot replicate. Hand-stretched onto the metal frame by artisans.

Hand-woven metal internal frame

An elongated vertical paper structure requires a rigorous internal frame to maintain its silhouette. The E Series uses a hand-woven metal frame as its structural skeleton — calibrated specifically for each size, denser at larger scales. Strong enough to keep a 106-inch column straight and true; light enough that the overall fixture suspends gracefully from a single canopy.

Dimmable · vaulted-ceiling ready

Compatible with any dimmable E26 LED or filament bulb (LED compatible). For large sizes (EM 75.6" and EL 106.3"), consider multiple bulbs along the internal length for even illumination — contact us for specifications. Hardwired installation; professional installation strongly recommended for the larger sizes. Cord extensions available for ceiling heights above 12 feet.

For the room that goes up, not out

Modern American architecture has shifted upward — open floor plans, vaulted ceilings, double-height entries, exposed-beam great rooms, two-story foyers with floating staircases. These spaces are visually defined as much by their vertical scale as their floor plan. And yet most pendant lighting is designed for the conservative 8-9ft ceiling rooms of older houses — pendants get lost in these tall spaces, looking undersized and incidental. The E Series exists for the modern American interior specifically. Its tall narrow proportions match the verticality of the room. It reads as architectural rather than decorative. It fills the visual void that high ceilings create, with the warm soft glow of Washi paper rather than the cold gleam of metal-and-crystal chandeliers. This is what high ceilings deserve.

Where the E Series hangs best

Two-story foyer or entry stairwell (EM/EL · 75.6"-106.3") — the long vertical column descends gracefully from second-floor ceiling height; visible from both floors of a staircase; signature welcome at the front of the house.

Vaulted living room or great room (HL/GL/EM · 57.1"-75.6") — fills the vertical void that high ceilings create; reads as the room's architectural anchor and ambient light source simultaneously.

Loft or industrial conversion (EM/EL · 75.6"-106.3") — matches the scale of exposed-beam ceilings, oversized industrial windows, and concrete-loft proportions; warm paper presence softens hard industrial materials.

Dining room with vaulted ceiling (IM/IL · 41.3"-55.1") — the smaller E Series sizes work as statement dining pendants in tall rooms; soft amber glow turns dinners into atmospheric occasions while the vertical scale anchors the height.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which size for my ceiling height? +

As a general guide for the E Series: the fixture height + the desired drop from ceiling + minimum 7.5ft floor clearance should fit within your ceiling height. For an 11-12ft ceiling, IM (41.3") works comfortably. For a 13-14ft ceiling, IL or HL (55-57") works. For 14-16ft vaulted, GL or EM (59-76") works. For 16-18ft+ double-height or staircase voids, the EL (106.3") is purpose-built. If your space is between sizes or you're hanging in a complex space like a staircase void, contact us before ordering — we can help you size correctly and arrange custom cord lengths.

Does the EL (106.3") need special installation? +

Yes — at nearly nine feet long, the EL is essentially a piece of architectural sculpture and requires professional electrical installation. Two specific considerations: the junction box must be rated for hardwired pendant installations and located in a structural ceiling element (not just drywall); and you may want to consider multiple internal bulbs distributed along the length for even illumination rather than a single bulb at the top. Most installations in double-height foyers and stairwells benefit from professional lighting design consultation; we can provide product specifications to your electrician on request.

How does E Series compare to Juni and other vertical Akari? +

Both Juni and the E Series are vertical silhouettes, but they differ in scale and proportion. The Akari Juni is 32.6" tall with 17.7" diameter — vertical but compact, suited for 9-10ft+ ceilings with normal proportions. The E Series (this family) is dramatically taller — from 41.3" up to 106.3" — and uses narrower diameters (11.4-18.9") for an even more elongated column read. Choose Juni for ordinary tall ceilings; choose E Series for vaulted, double-height, or staircase spaces where you need monumental vertical scale. The E Series IM size is the closest match to Juni in spirit; everything larger is for spaces Juni cannot reach.


For the warmest paper-glow effect, use 2700K-3000K LED bulbs with high color rendering (CRI/Ra > 90). Cooler bulbs flatten the paper's natural amber undertone.
