A slim Washi paper egg suspended. Quiet vertical presence for narrow spaces.
The Akari 23A and 24A are slender egg-shape pendants — vertical paper silhouettes designed for spaces too narrow for our wider sphere and disc fixtures. Where most of our Akari pendants prioritize horizontal presence or sculptural scale, the 23A/24A prioritize subtle vertical elegance. The narrow profile (11.4-12.6" diameter) lets these pendants hang in tight spaces — hallways, narrow foyers, between dining table seating arrangements, in clustered groupings of three to five for staircase voids — that wider fixtures cannot fit gracefully.
Two sizes: 24A (⌀11.4" × H19.7") for tighter spaces and standard hallway installations; 23A (⌀12.6" × H24.8") for more presence in slightly larger rooms. Same hand-stretched authentic Washi paper, same bamboo ribbing, same warm uniform glow. Ships with a 3000K warm-white bulb included.
Slim egg-shape vertical silhouette
Vertical proportions (1:1.7 diameter-to-height for 24A, 1:2 for 23A) with a narrower-than-average diameter — the slim profile reads architectural and considered rather than bulky. Designed for spaces that wider pendants would crowd: narrow hallways, small foyers, between-seat dining clustering.
Genuine hand-stretched mulberry paper
Real mulberry-fiber Washi paper, hand-stretched onto the bamboo frame by skilled artisans. Genuine Washi "breathes" — it ages gracefully over years rather than yellowing and cracking like cheaper synthetic alternatives, developing a richer character over time.
Bamboo ribbing internal structure
Natural bamboo ribbing gives the egg silhouette its precise vertical geometry while keeping the fixture remarkably lightweight. The slim profile requires more rigorous internal structure than wider pendants — too little support, the egg sags; the bamboo frame holds the form true over years.

For the spaces our larger Akari cannot fit
American hallways are narrow. American powder rooms are tight. American staircase voids are deep but not wide. Most American homes have at least one specific space where a 20-inch-wide pendant would feel crowded but a 30-inch pendant would block the path. The 23A/24A exists for these spaces specifically. The 11.4" diameter is intentionally smaller than nearly every other Washi pendant on the market — narrow enough to clear narrow hallways, vertical enough to read as architectural lighting rather than incidental decor. And in groupings of three to five, the same slim form becomes a powerful clustered statement — a row of vertical paper eggs descending into a staircase void, or three suspended above a long narrow dining table, produces more visual impact than a single oversized fixture.
Where the 23A/24A hangs best
Narrow hallway as series (24A clustered, spaced 8-10ft apart) — slim profile clears hallway walls without crowding; mounted at consistent heights creates rhythm down the corridor.
Staircase void as vertical cluster (3-5 units at staggered heights) — slim eggs descending at different cord lengths produces a sculptural waterfall effect; visible from both floors.
Small foyer or powder room (24A) — single pendant works in tight entries where wider fixtures would dominate the space; warm welcome at the front of small houses.
Long narrow dining table (3 × 23A spaced evenly) — three units replace a single wide chandelier; the linear cluster echoes the table's rectangular geometry.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I install these as a cluster of 3-5 in a staircase? +
Cluster installations require multiple individual orders — order 3 or 5 of the same size for a unified effect. For staircase voids, we recommend ordering the 24A in a quantity of 3 or 5, then hanging at staggered cord lengths (for example, 36", 48", 60", 72", 84" cord lengths for a 5-pendant descending arrangement). The cords are extended free of charge — specify your desired cord lengths in your order notes. Each pendant requires its own ceiling junction box; for staircase voids with a single ceiling point, an electrician can run multiple cords from one box with a Y-connector kit. Plan the spacing so that no two pendants overlap when viewed from any angle in the staircase.
How does 23A/24A compare to Juni and other vertical Akari? +
All three are vertical silhouettes, but they differ in scale and profile. The Juni is the largest: 17.7" diameter × 32.6" tall, designed for spacious modernist living rooms with 9ft+ ceilings. The 23A/24A (this fixture) are dramatically slimmer: 11.4-12.6" diameter, designed for tight spaces and cluster installations. The E Series goes much taller and more elongated for double-height vaulted spaces. Choose 23A/24A for narrow rooms, single hallways, or vertical clusters; choose Juni for one standout pendant in a modern room; choose E Series for grand vaulted spaces.
How do I care for Washi paper? +
Dust gently with a soft feather duster or microfiber cloth — that's it. Do not wet-clean, steam, spray with cleaners, or use damp cloths; water permanently stains and warps Washi paper. Avoid hanging in humid environments (bathrooms, kitchen areas with stovetop steam) and away from direct heat sources (radiators, fireplaces). With basic monthly dusting, the paper maintains its appearance for many years; Washi paper ages gracefully — slight ambering over time is natural and considered part of the material's character.
For the warmest paper-glow effect, use 2700K-3000K LED or filament bulbs with high color rendering (CRI/Ra > 90). Cooler bulbs flatten the paper's natural amber undertone.
