The Akari 10A Floor Lamp brings the soft warm glow of our Washi paper lantern series down to a freestanding fixture — a vertical egg-shape paper shade supported by a slender three-leg black metal tripod base. The shade is hand-stretched from authentic mulberry Washi paper over bamboo ribbing, the same craftsmanship as our pendant series; the tripod base adds the architectural structure and graphic contrast that elevates the soft paper into intentional design. The result is a floor lamp that reads as ambient lighting and floor sculpture in equal measure.
At 19.7" diameter and 49" tall, the Akari 10A is sized for the role most floor lamps actually need to fill — ambient room light rather than focused reading task light. Place it in a living room corner, beside a sofa, in a bedroom corner, or beside a quiet reading chair. Ships with a 3000K warm-white bulb included; in-line cord switch for one-touch on/off.
Hand-stretched authentic Washi paper shade
Premium off-white Japanese Washi paper, hand-stretched over a bamboo frame by skilled artisans — the same authentic paper used in our pendant series. The dense paper softens harsh bulb light into a glare-free warm glow rather than the cheap yellow tones cast by mass-produced alternatives.
Slim black metal tripod base
Three slender black metal legs hold the paper shade with intentional graphic contrast — the warmth of paper against the precision of dark metal. The tripod provides stable footing on any flat floor surface; the silhouette reads architectural without dominating the room.
Bamboo ribbing — internal structure
Internal bamboo frame provides the structural integrity that holds the egg-shape silhouette over years of use. Bamboo ages naturally with the paper, producing the integrated material aging that synthetic frames never develop.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is this floor lamp suitable for reading? +
It depends on what kind of reading you mean. For casual evening reading (magazines, fiction, light reading on a couch or in bed), yes — the soft Washi-diffused warm glow is comfortable and easy on the eyes. For intensive task reading (small print, technical material, sustained focus), the ambient diffuse light is intentionally softer than what a dedicated reading lamp provides, and you may want a directional task lamp in addition. The Akari 10A is designed as an ambient light source first — its job is to make the room feel calm, not to produce maximum brightness on a specific page. Many customers use it alongside a dedicated reading lamp for the best of both lighting layers.
How do I care for and clean the Washi paper shade? +
Dust gently with a soft feather duster or microfiber cloth — that's it. Do not wet-clean, steam, spray with cleaners, or use damp cloths; water permanently stains and warps Washi paper. Place the lamp away from humid environments (avoid bathroom corners, kitchen areas with stovetop steam) and away from direct heat sources (radiators, fireplaces). With basic monthly dusting, the paper maintains its appearance for many years; slight ambering over time is natural and part of the material's character. The metal tripod base only needs occasional wiping with a dry cloth.
What bulb works best for the warmest paper glow? +
Use the included 3000K warm-white bulb, or upgrade to a 2700K-3000K LED bulb with high color rendering (CRI/Ra > 90). High-CRI bulbs bring out the natural amber tones of the Washi paper and produce noticeably more atmospheric light than standard bulbs. Avoid cooler bulbs (4000K+) — they flatten the paper's natural amber undertone and shift the glow toward gray, defeating the whole point of the lamp. For full brightness control, pair with a compatible dimmable bulb (you can use a smart bulb with phone control, or an in-line cord dimmer between the lamp and the wall outlet).
Each piece is handmade by artisans — slight variations between individual lamps in paper texture, frame geometry, and exact dimensions are part of the authentic hand-craft character.
Place on a stable, level floor surface; the tripod base is weighted for stability but works best on hardwood, low-pile carpet, or other firm flat surfaces.
