Most Americans have never heard of Guzhen.

It's a town in the Pearl River Delta of southern China, smaller in land area than Manhattan, with a population of about 180,000. But there's a good chance the chandelier in your dining room, the pendant over your kitchen island, or the bedside lamp you turned off last night passed through it.

Guzhen is the manufacturing capital of the global lighting industry. More than 20,000 lighting workshops, factories, and component suppliers operate inside its borders. Brass casters share a street with crystal cutters. Glassblowers work next door to wiring assemblers. Roughly 70% of the lighting fixtures sold worldwide originate here — and have done so for more than three decades.

In 2002, China's national industry association formally designated Guzhen as the "Lighting Capital of China." For most of the world, that title never made it past the trade press. But for the families who have run workshops here across two generations, it just made official what had already been true: when you grow up in Guzhen, lighting isn't something you sell. It's the craft your neighborhood has been refining since you were a child.

Our Story

We started Stuberlighting because we kept noticing the same thing.

The workshops producing fixtures for boutique American lighting brands — the ones selling a single chandelier for $1,200 in a design district showroom — were the same workshops producing the unbranded, generic versions sold online for half the price, with none of the design language and none of the warranty.

The markup wasn't paying for craftsmanship. It was paying for distribution.

So we did the obvious thing. We work directly with the workshops we've known for years — many of them run by people we grew up around. We brief them on design (Scandinavian minimalism, warm material palettes, considered proportions). We hold our own inventory. We inspect every unit before it ships. And we deliver fixtures directly to American homes at prices up to 50% below comparable design-district pieces.

We're not a dropshipper. We design our own SKUs. We hold inventory at our warehouse in Guzhen. We stand behind every order with a 2-year warranty.

Our Craftsmanship

Every Stuberlighting fixture is built by hand in our partner workshops. The process is unglamorous and slow on purpose:

  • Real materials. Solid brass, not brass-plated metal. Walnut and oak hardwoods, not laminated veneer. Hand-blown frosted glass, not pressed acrylic. The weight in your hands when you unbox a Stuberlighting fixture is the difference.
  • Hand assembly. Each fixture is built and wired by a single craftsperson rather than passed down an assembly line. The same person who attaches the canopy attaches the shade. It's slower. It's also why every piece feels considered rather than assembled.
  • Pre-shipment inspection. Every unit is unboxed, photographed, function-tested, and re-packed before it leaves our warehouse. If you'd like to see the inspection photos for your order, email us and we'll send them.
  • Engineered packaging. Lighting is fragile, and our packages travel roughly 7,000 miles to reach you. Our packaging is over-built for that journey — and if anything happens in transit, we replace it at no cost to you.

  • Free standard shipping to all 50 U.S. states.
  • 30-day returns. Not happy with your fixture? Return it within 30 days of delivery for a full product refund. For change-of-mind returns, the customer covers return shipping; for defective items or shipping damage, we cover everything.
  • 2-year warranty. Defects, electrical failures, finish issues — covered. We replace or refund.
  • 24-hour email response. We reply to every email within one business day. Weekends included.
  • Transit damage protection. If your fixture arrives damaged, send us photos within 48 hours and we'll send a free replacement — no return shipping required.
